(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: ETH – Roche Postdoc in optical liquid biopsy
In close collaboration with multidisciplinary experts you will develop a high throughput molecular profiling assay against disease biomarkers. You will also design and fabricate microfluidic chips on which the molecular fingerprinting assay will run and integrate all these components into a dedicated optofluidic detection platform that enables continuous monitoring. You will then validate the platform against state-of-the-art technologies are essential parts of the project. Finally, you will take the first steps, in collaboration with Roche, to understand the development of disease pathologies from an OOC disease model system. Throughout the project, you will document all activities in an electronic laboratory notebook.

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc summary/title: Post-Doctoral position on the combustion dynamics of hydrogen-fired aircraft engines
This experimental research work aims at investigating the combustion dynamics of hydrogen flames for aircraft propulsion at relevant operating conditions. The combustion of liquid sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) will also be considered in the research program. The research will be performed on a lab-scale, high-pressure test facility into which different combustors can be inserted. Acoustic and laser-based optical techniques will be used to experimentally identify the response of the hydrogen flames to acoustic excitation, as well as their hydrodynamic stability and NOx emissions. The research outcome will be published in specialized and broad-audience journals.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc/Senior Researcher/Research Engineer: Integrated Simulation and Design for Infrastructure Resilience (1-Year Contract)
This position is under the FRS programme. The researcher will maintain and further develop InfraRisk, an integrated platform for the electricity grid, water network and transport system quantifying the effects of weather-related disruptive events on interdependent systems.
The platform will be leveraged to design system resilience against disruptive events and across system interdependencies, with a focus on simulating and testing disruption/restoration scenarios relevant to Southeast Asia. An important technical aspect will be to model the recovery strategies considering interdependencies between the power, water, and transport systems. The ultimate goal of the integrated platform will be to identify features and requirements that aid in developing solutions to improve resilience.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher: The role of soil microbes in plant invasions and ecosystem restoration
We are seeking an excellent postdoctoral researcher to join the Global Microbial Ecology Group in the Crowther Lab at ETH Zürich. The postdoctoral researcher will lead (1) a global scale analysis of plant invasion, testing for the role of mycorrhizal filtering and (2) participate in a large collaborative effort across Europe and the Tropics to track restoration of the belowground microbiome. The work is flexible and can be tailored based on interests of the selected candidate, but will encompass metabarcoding, analysis of large datasets, publishing related findings, and coordinating larger team communications.

(11) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc on resilience of forests to air pollution and climate extremes (up to 3 years)
This position is embedded in a project on the Impacts of Air Pollution and Climate Extremes on the Resilience of European Forests (CERES), a collaboration with Prof. Mana Gharun at the University of Münster. We aim to improve the mechanistic understanding of how changes in tree ecophysiology in response to air pollution and climate extremes drive the forest ecosystem’s capacity to sequester carbon and its evaporative cooling. We will combine long-term deposition simulations, local meteorological measurements, existing tree level growth, and water use measurements with whole ecosystem gas exchange measurements to identify ecophysiological resistance and recovery responses to climate extremes under different air pollution along a climatic gradient in Europe. Moreover, we will use statistical (e.g., random forest, generalised additive models) and process-based (e.g., SPA) models to project future forest responses to global change drivers.

Within the module, you will develop a Building Information Modelling extension that integrates workflows for existing building-scale circularity assessment methods into a BIM environment (using IFC standards, integrated in Revit).
This extension will be the design evaluation tool for the ‘Circular Economy Potential’ (CEP) model, a framework to estimate recovery reuse rates based on a building’s configurational characteristics (e.g. how spaces are connected, how walls are assembled, how services are laid out). This framework combines existing assessment methods for design goals related to reuse and recovery (e.g. design for disassembly, building adaptation, maintainability). Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher – Molecular and Systems Biology & Toxicology
A postdoctoral opportunity is available with a focus on molecular & systems biology and toxicology. The research will involve evaluating the impacts of chemicals on molecular and cellular responses in human cells. You will advance research concerning the development of new approach methodologies for in vitro toxicology, based on molecular mechanistic insight and integration of various sources of high-content data (i.e. multi-omics, imaging). Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher or Researcher in Agropolitan Territories (C3221)
The role(s) focus on understanding land-use transitions from urban city centres to intensive monoculture crop plantations and to identify and create a typology of mixed land-uses that include settlements and agro ecololgical production, also termend as ‘agropolitan territories’. These typologies will be assessed against as set of indicators of agro ecological elements to understand how they vary with the range of agropolitan territories identified. The context of this work will be focused on both rice and palm oil production systems, a ubiquitous crop across Indonesia and Malaysia that is used for producing vegetable oils. We have identified cases in Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia (for the palm oil focus), and other regions in India, China and Africa to develop comparative studies of emerging agropolitan territories along several transects from the city center to the rural areas. Traveling and field trips are expected during the employment. Previous experience doing field work in any of these regions and language proficiency to support it is and advantage.”

Nucleic acid-based therapeutics (NAT) have recently been established as a new class of drugs with extraordinary effects. With the triumph of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines, examples of antisense oligonucleotides for treatment of muscular dystrophy, and siRNAs treating common and rare genetic diseases, the therapeutic potential of oligonucleotides is convincing. The programmable nature of RNA drugs provides them with almost unlimited potential as pharmaceuticals. However, many hurdles must still be overcome before RNA modalities reach their potential.
