Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Position: Neuroendocrine Mechanisms of Aggressive Behavior

The Demas Lab at Indiana University (www.demaslab.com) seeks to hire a Postdoctoral Fellow on an NIH-funded project aimed at elucidating the neuroendocrine mechanisms regulating aggression in a rodent model. The successful applicant will join a vibrant lab group using advanced experimental techniques to study the neural and neuroendocrine mechanisms of seasonal aggression. The goal of this work is to characterize how the pineal hormone melatonin acts on the adrenal glands and brain to regulate steroid release and conversion to control aggressive behavior. The lab routinely employs a range of neural, neuroendocrine and molecular biology techniques, as well as microscopy and behavioral assays, to address these questions. These studies will significantly enhance our understanding of the mechanisms mediating excessive aggressive behavior and violence. This research is in collaboration with the laboratory of Dr. Aaron Jasnow, Department of Pharmacology, Physiology & Neuroscience, University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia, S.C. (www.jasnowlab.com).

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow, Physics (Nuclear / Precision Measurement)

The IU experimental nuclear physics group has an active program addressing fundamental questions in nuclear physics, particle physics, and astrophysics/cosmology. Group members are leaders in a wide range of experiments, including: investigations of the flavor and spin structure of the nucleon (STAR at RHIC, Belle II at KEK); studies of parity and time reversal violation between nucleons (NISTSNSLANSCEJPARCJLABFRM), measurements of neutrino properties (Fermilab, SNSSURFLNGS), neutron decay and neutron interferometry (NISTLANSCESNSISISILL), and searches for possible exotic spin-dependent interactions. The group is part of the Center for Exploration of Energy and Matter (CEEM) at IU, which also includes research in theoretical nuclear physics, condensed matter, and radiation effects studies. Group members include professional staff in electronics, mechanical engineering, cryogenic design, and machinists, as well as graduate and undergraduate students. Local facilities include a low-energy neutron source (LENS) available for neutron detector development and testing, high-bay facilities for large-scale fabrication, professional and student machine shops, a polarized 3He lab, a dilution refrigerator, and a vibration isolated lab for weak force measurement. The laboratory possesses infrastructure on a scale which enables us to make major hardware contributions to experiments. Opportunities are available on all major research projects.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Scholar – Forest Carbon

We are seeking a highly-motivated postdoctoral fellow to conduct research focused on reducing bias and uncertainty in the measurement and monitoring of forest carbon uptake from local to global scales.

Forests dominate the land carbon sink, and forest-based carbon removal strategies have the potential to confer many benefits for the environment and the bio-economy. However, at scales ranging from individual sites to the entire globe, estimates of forest carbon uptake and storage (FCUS) vary by 50-100% (or more). Our overall objective is to use the best-available science to confront these discrepancies while creating tools that permit seamless integration between project-scale FCUS monitoring and regional to global-scale policy setting.

The postdoctoral research scholar will play a leading role in the synthesis of network observations, including forest inventory data (e.g. from the USDA Forest Inventory and Analysis program) and flux tower data (e.g. from AmeriFlux and FLUXNET networks), and the integration of these ground-based observations with state-of-the-art remote sensing information describing forest structure and function. The position will require computationally intensive data analysis, the preparation and submission of journal articles, and the mentoring of students and technicians working on the project.
