PhD position summary/title: Doctoral Researcher for a Finnish Academy funded project Experimenting with Geopolymers (two-year funded position)
We are looking for a future Doctoral Researcher already working in the field of studio ceramics with a strong practice background, experience in material development and geopolymers. The material research is explorative in nature and there is a freedom to expand the research in ways that serves the individual needs of the doctoral research plan. The starting point of the proposal should be, however, on sustainable and ethical material usage within the creative practices that could be tested and evaluated through material research at the Ceramics workshop. Following this, we invite research proposals for doctoral projects that expand the initial project aims and thus contribute to the general project outcomes.

(03) PhD Degree – Fully Funded
PhD position summary/title: Doctoral researcher and/or Post-doctoral researcher on compound semiconductor energy converters
We are looking for new highly motivated colleagues to work on developing electroluminescent and thermophotonic energy converters based on III-V compound semiconductors and thin-film devices. Our work spans the full range of topics from epitaxial growth and material development to device design, characterization and modeling, fully integrating activities joining a team of theoreticians and experimentalists.
About the Engineered NanoSystems (ENS) research group
The work at ENS combines the research of optical thermodynamics with semiconductor energy conversion, forming one of the leading clusters for the research of termophotonics. The group aims to demonstrate and develop optical heat pumps and energy harvesting approaches that are based on electroluminescence. While presently based at the university and providing a cutting edge clean room environment for academic research, we also have a strong ambition towards enabling broader use of the developed technologies outside the university environment.

About Aalto University, Finland –Official Website
Aalto University is a university located in Espoo, Finland. It was established in 2010 as a merger of three major Finnish universities: the Helsinki University of Technology (established 1849), the Helsinki School of Economics (established 1904), and the University of Art and Design Helsinki (established 1871). The close collaboration between the scientific, business and arts communities is intended to foster multi-disciplinary education and research. The Finnish government, in 2010, set out to create a university that fosters innovation, merging the three institutions into one.
The university is composed of six schools with close to 17,500 students and 4,000 staff members, making it Finland’s second largest university. The main campus of Aalto University is located in Otaniemi, Espoo. Aalto University Executive Education operates in the district of Töölö, Helsinki. In addition to the Greater Helsinki area, the university also operates its Bachelor’s Programme in International Business in Mikkeli and the Metsähovi Radio Observatory in Kirkkonummi.
Aalto University’s operations showcase Finland’s experiment in higher education. The Aalto Design Factory, Aalto Ventures Program and Aalto Entrepreneurship Society (Aaltoes), among others, drive the university’s mission for a radical shift towards multidisciplinary learning and have contributed substantially to the emergence of Helsinki as a hotbed for startups.Aaltoes is Europe’s largest and most active student run entrepreneurship community that has founded major concepts such as the Startup Sauna accelerator program and the Slush startup event.
