PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in Machine Learning for Reliable Quantum Computing
This doctoral project, funded within the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP), focuses on developing machine learning methods for reliable quantum computing. The project treats quantum noise and quantum error mitigation as problems in physics-informed, structured machine learning, with particular emphasis on learning error processes from limited, noisy measurement data. The overall goal is to develop scalable and robust models that improve the reliability of quantum algorithms in cryptography, optimization, and quantum chemistry. The work will be carried out at KTH’s Department of Computational Science and Technology in an international research environment and in close interaction with the WASP Graduate School. We are looking for candidates with a strong background in computer science, quantum computing, machine learning, engineering physics, or a related field.

PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in Power Electronics, focusing on modular GaN power converters
The introduction of new semiconductor materials, such as Gallium Nitride (GaN), opens new possibilities in power electronics allowing for reduced losses and increased switching frequency. GaN power semiconductors are already successfully used in low-power applications. In your research you will focus on combining these into modular converter structures, which will allow for compact and very efficient drive systems for high power applications, such as electric trucks and buses. You will work in a very dynamic team of researchers active in power electronics in a wide sense, including topologies, design, reliability, and control aspects. This PhD project develops new methods to recover spatial organization in tissues from single-cell RNA sequencing data using graph theory and machine learning. The work focuses on algorithm development and large-scale data analysis. You will be based in the Molecular Programming group at KTH/SciLifeLab, working with leading groups in single-cell genomics, spatial biology, and machine learning. The advertised doctoral student position are within an ambitious, 5-year Wallenberg Scholar project titled “Scalable and adaptive inferencing for democratizing AI”. In this 18 Million SEK project, we want to dramatically reduce the cost and power for serving large language models such as ChatGPT.

PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in physics of fluids and electrification
The Department of Engineering Mechanics pursues basic and applied research in biomechanics, composite mechanics, fluid mechanics, contact mechanics, fracture mechanics and fatigue, material mechanics, and paper mechanics. FLOW is a strong community of researchers engaged in fundamental and applied research in fluid mechanics within the department.
We are currently seeking a PhD student in fluid mechanics to join the Fluid and Surface Group within FLOW. This position offers an exciting opportunity for talented and motivated researchers to contribute to a cutting-edge research project. The project uses computational fluid mechanics and turbulence modeling to build a physical understanding of the electrokinetic phenomenon called streaming electrification, which can occur through charge separation at a solid-liquid interface due to the flow movement of the liquid. The magnitude of the streaming current depends on the turbulent intensity. To eliminate the risk of streaming electrification affecting high voltage insulation performance in power transformers, a design limit is set on the flow velocity of the coolant. The results from this PhD project will facilitate the transition to sustainable materials and innovative design solutions for critical components of the electric power grid.

PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in perception for dynamic scene understaning
This project addresses generalizable 3D dynamic scene understanding for autonomous systems, with a focus on scene flow estimation. A key challenge is that current methods fail to generalize across different sensor configurations and environments, and treat motion estimation as an isolated geometric task disconnected from downstream safety requirements. The goal is to develop a self-supervised, multi-modal model that fuses LiDAR geometry and camera semantics to learn motion representations that generalize zero-shot to unseen real-world scenarios, and are directly aligned with the safety and efficiency needs of autonomous planning that going beyond standard geometric metrics. The starting point for the project is our state of the art work on self-supervised scene flow (https://github.com/KTH-RPL/OpenSceneFlow). The position is at the department of Robotics, Perception and Learning and is funded by Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP), https://wasp-sweden.org/.
