(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoc in design of movement and touch between robots and the body

The aim of the WASP-HS research group on autonomous systems and robotics in society (https://robotsinsociety.blogs.dsv.su.se/) is to advance the critical interactional study and design of autonomous systems and robotics in society. This postdoc will join this research group to develop interaction design research on robotics and autonomous systems as it meets the body. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Microphysiological Systems for Tumor Biology

We are looking for a Postdoctoral fellow with the task of validating and developing  new systems to emulate cancer microenvironments. The fellow will work on multidisciplinary projects collaborating with research groups across KTH, Karolinska Institutet, SciLifeLab, and Karolinska Hospital. The host environment will be the Division of Nanobiotechnology, SciLifeLab, KTH with the group of Professor Anna Herland.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in wireless MIMO communications for 6G

Wireless communication technology has evolved over five generations, but the demand for higher efficiency, availability, and reliability is never-ending. The physical layer of 5G and 6G networks revolves around the multi-antenna MIMO technology. 5G uses 64 antennas in each base station and 4 antennas in devices, which might grow by 5-10 times in 6G. These antennas can be used for beamforming, spatial multiplexing, and integrated communication and sensing (ISAC).

In this postdoc project, you will contribute to cutting-edge research on 6G MIMO technology and develop new communication theory, concepts, and algorithms. The focus might be on Gigantic MIMO, cell-free networks, near-field communications, or ISAC for mid-band or higher frequencies. We believe a successful postdoc period builds on your current skills but expands them by targeting new research challenges and using new methods.

The research will be focused on the physical and media access control layers. Methods from MIMO communication theory, array signal processing, optimization, and machine learning will likely play a vital role. The research will mainly be theoretical, but KTH has testbeds for potential experiments. However, we are not looking for microwave doctors because no antennas or hardware will be built.

In this project, you will join the world-leading research group of Prof. Emil Björnson (IEEE Fellow, Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher) and work at the Division of Communication Systems at the EECS school. The research is funded by external projects, so there will be good opportunities to interact with the telecom industry.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Mathematics with specialization in Numerical Analysis

The department of Mathematics at KTH is offering a two-year postdoc position. The research project will focus on the continued development and extension of a numerical method based on an integral equation formulation for the simulation of viscous drops in microfluidic flows. Surfactants that are soluble in the bulk fluid(s) play a key role in the drop dynamics. The project will extend the method in the commonly encountered, yet challenging, low-diffusion regime. A formulation involving a time convolution integral will be explored, together with a computational acceleration using a fast multipole type method. Depending on the candidate’s interests and background, the project may also include components of machine learning. The project spans theory, algorithms, software, and applications.

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in runaway electron modelling for fusion plasmas

We are looking for a strongly motivated postdoc for our group in fusion plasma modelling to study runaway electrons. The project concerns investigations of how fast ions influence the transport of runaway electrons during tokamak disruptions.

In the first part of the project a kinetic equation for ions be derived and implemented in the world-leading code DREAM, the development of which is coordinate from KTH. A number of scenarios in both existing and future fusion experiments should then be simulated and the motion of the ions must be determined. The results of the simulations are then transferred to gyro-kinetic and MHD codes for calculating how the ions affect the magnetic field, and this is finally used to determine how the ions influence relativistic electrons in the plasma.

Beyond the above-mentioned project you are also expected to participate in supervision of BSc/MSc students and PhD students at the department, as well as collaborate with external researcher who would like to use the DREAM code. A certain amount of time will also be dedicated to modelling of experiments within EUROfusion, as well as collaboration with colleagues at the experimental facilities.

(08) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in structural transitions associated with protein self-assembly

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow with a strong interest in protein structure and self-assembly processes. Nature has chosen proteins as building blocks for many materials with remarkable functional and mechanical properties. Spider silk, with toughness higher than both steel and Kevlar, is one prominent example. Novel protein materials inspired by these structures could be part of the solution for a sustainable society. However, we need fundamental knowledge about how to assemble materials with properties in line with the natural products with the same efficiency and control as natural producers (e.g. spiders). In this project, we will dissect the triggering mechanisms of structural transition from alpha-helix to beta-sheets in spider silk proteins (spidroins). The project will include investigations of the thermodynamical and kinetic principles of alpha-helix to beta-sheet transitions of proteins as function of pH and ionic strength. A major part concerns how interfaces trigger structural switches in proteins. This will be studied by vibrational sum frequency generation spectroscopy.

The postdoctoral fellow is expected to have a leading role in the project and take the responsibility for running and further developing it. The position provides great opportunities for an ambitious researcher to develop skills within state-of-the-art biophysical methods such as vibrational sum frequency generation spectroscopy and NMR.

About KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden – Official Website

KTH Royal Institute of Technology, abbreviated KTH, is a public research university in Stockholm, Sweden. KTH conducts research and education within engineering and technology, and is Sweden’s largest technical university. Currently, KTH consists of five schools with four campuses in and around Stockholm.

KTH was established in 1827 as Teknologiska Institutet (Institute of Technology), and had its roots in Mekaniska skolan (School of Mechanics) that was established in 1798 in Stockholm. But the origin of KTH dates back to the predecessor to Mekaniska skolan, the Laboratorium Mechanicum, which was established in 1697 by Swedish scientist and innovator Christopher Polhem. Laboratorium Mechanicum combined education technology, a laboratory and an exhibition space for innovations. In 1877 KTH received its current name, Kungliga Tekniska högskolan (KTH Royal Institute of Technology). The King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf is the High Protector of KTH.
