Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doctoral Research Visit F/M Personalized Intelligent Tutorial Systems (ITS) for attention training: Modelling of personalization algorithms and effectiveness study
The postdoctoral position addresses the challenge to build a “human-centered digital word” with innovative interactive systems providing “adaptive and personalized interactions with humans” for supporting “their wellbeing and health”. Additionally, this PhD program is primarily based on interdisciplinary approach of individuals’ intrinsic motivation (curiosity) as critical ingredient for synergistic human-computer interactions. Today, very few studies provide information on the impact of intrinsic motivation and curiosity on the inter-individual variability of learning across life span or on their neuro-protective role against the aging effects or attentional disorders.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doctoral Research Visit F/M Post-Doctorant – Multi-robot formation control for collaborative SLAM
In this Postdoc, we want to study active strategies of data acquisition involving a master robot (the ground vehicle) and two slave robots (aerial robots) in order to optimize in terms of accuracy and stability the mapping of the environment. Each robot will be equipped with its own large field vision with a time stamping. We assume also that synchronized velocity control inputs can be sent to the ground and aerial robots. The master robot centralizes the information and manages the multi-robots formation. One robot of the formation, so-called the leader (not necessary the master) is manually driven by a human operator who ensures the completness of the exploration of the scene.

(11) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doctoral Research Visit F/M Design of strategies and tools for placing HPC tasks and data on heterogeneous memory architecture
The memory hierarchy of HPC platforms keeps becoming even more complex. Now that all processors have multiple levels of caches, memory itself is changing with the advent of different technologies with different performance characteristics. Heterogeneous memories first appeared in HPC several years ago with the Intel Xeon Phi processor. Custom strategies were implemented to place bandwidth-sensitive data buffers on the appropriate memory. The emergence on non-volatile memory DIMMs (that may be used either as fast storage or as slow but high-capacity memory) brought similar questions. Moreover several ARM and x86 platforms are going to combine HBM and DRAM on the road to exascale. There is a critical need for software stacks to learn portable ways to identify different kinds of memories, to abstract their characteristics in terms of performance, and to decide where to allocate which data buffer.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doctoral Research Visit F/M Feeling and perceiving the symptoms of schizophrenia in augmented reality to reduce stigma
Schizophrenia is a severe and chronic mental disorder that affects about 23 million people worldwide. This disorder is most often manifested by hallucinations, derealisation and delusions (so-called “psychotic” symptoms). This condition is a serious handicap impacting both the health and the social integration of the patient [1]. This is partly due to the stigmatisation of patients suffering from this disease, by the general population, but also by professionals (health, education, HR, police and so on) who are generally untrained in this disease. Patients are often seen as dangerous and unpredictable, whereas a very small percentage of them are likely to be violent [2]. This false belief limits their social relationships, their chances of getting a job, but also delays treatment.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doctoral Research Visit F/M Socially-Aware Embodied Conversational Agents: Achieving Task and Social Goals in Human-Computer Conversation
The objective of this project is to build embodied conversational agents (also known as ECAs, or virtual humans, or chatbots, or multimodal dialogue systems) that have the ability to engage their users in both social and task talk, where the social talk serves to improve task performance. In order to achieve this objective, we model human-human conversation, and integrate the models into ECAs, and then evaluate their performance. Depending on the candidate’s experience, she or he can be hired as postdoc, or as “young researcher”, which is a more advanced position.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doctoral Research Visit F/M Analysis and random generation of geometric combinatorial structures
In the context of exact geometric computing, algorithms are usually provided as input some numerical data, but operate on a combinatorial abstraction of that data, defined by the predicates used in the course of the computation (face lattice of a polytope, order-type of a point set, nerve of a collection of balls, etc.). These « geometric combinatorial structures » remain poorly understood. The goal of this postdoctoral position is to contribute to their study in a broad sense, and in particular to tackle their efficient random generation.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doctoral Research Visit F/M “Digital Twin of the lung based on a personalized poroelastic model”
The resection of pulmonary nodules through video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of early-stage lung cancer. One of the major challenges during VATS is the localization of the nodules, since the lung undergoes large deformations induced by a pneumothorax. The placement of physical markers is currently the mainline approach for pulmonary nodule localization in clinical practice, but this typically requires an adjuvant intervention and often results in clinical complications. As an alternative, recent works have proposed the use of biomechanical models to estimate lung deformation during VATS with the objective of providing intraoperative guidance [1, 2]. These works have demonstrated the relevance of biomechanics-based solutions for nodule localization during VATS. With improved accuracy, better computational efficiency, and improved integration into the clinical workflow, such biomechanical models may pave the way for the development of a lung digital twin, with great potential for personalized care.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doctoral Research Visit F/M Algorithms for sampling and convex optimization
Two of the most important ingredients behind the modern techniques and tools in data science are sampling and optimization algorithms. Even more, their applicability spans the whole spectrum of computer science and engineering. The need is for algorithms amenable to efficient implementations that scale to thousands of dimensions and also have theoretical guarantees both of their running time and the quality of the output. For this we need to exploit the geometry and the structure of the input, to understand in depth the required algebraic operations, and to employ novel algorithmic techniques.
