The goal of this project is to enhance the development and implementation of wave energy convertor technology by integrating tribological principles into the wave energy convertor design work. The project includes activities related to the systematic collection, organisation and presentation of existing knowledge as well as fundamental research to address critical knowledge gaps with a particular focus on bearing design, selection and operation in wave energy convertor systems. The research work is in close collaboration with industry and international researchers.

Syrén’s research group currently recruits a postdoctoral fellow in the development of methods for enzyme design for selective biosynthesis and functionalization of food additives from CO2. The research is funded by SSF. The main purpose of this research project is to develop methods for sustainable biocatalytic production of edible oils, such as palm oil and coconut oil, from CO2 and through designed enzymes.

Sweden aims to become one of the world’s first fossil-free welfare states by 2045, and this requires a restructuring of the transport sector. A technological leap for vehicles and the transport sector is underway, which means that the sector needs to quickly relate to automation, digitization and connected solutions. Important components in climate change are the introduction of sustainable fuels, with electrification as an important part. Connecting freight transport around nodes is an important part of the transition, but meets obstacles to coordination and learning challenges.

As a Researcher fellow in this project, you will build models that connect the various multimodal activities to enable scenario analysis together with the stakeholders. Traffic and logistics flows, the value chain, the energy network, data flows and other digitization aspects related to the entire value chain are included in the model and different abstract levels and details will need to be taken care of. It is therefore important that you have knowledge and experience in traffic or logistics modeling and have knowledge of how ontologies can be used to connect domain-specific models.

We are seeking a research engineer to participate in this research by developing new network architectures and perform systematic experiments with these. The work comprises generating data sets that test scaling variations in testing data that are not spanned by training data, and investigating how other prior knowledge to the networks can make them generalise to new scales that are not spanned by the training data.

We are currently looking for a postdoctoral fellow in modeling deformation and damage mechanisms in the forming of advanced fiber network structures. The aim is to develop a basic understanding of the mechanical properties of both new and recycled cellulose fibers when processed in various forming techniques. The results obtained should be used in design guidelines to be able to produce complex 3D-shaped packages while the need for materials can be minimized.

The division of Energy Systems (dES), within the Department of Energy Technology at KTH, has been awarded funding as part of the Horizon Europe project IAM COMPACT. The project aims to support the achievement of global climate goals and the design of the next round of NDCs for major emitters and non-high-income countries. One Work Package of the project is dedicated to developing technical capacity and promoting ownership in integrated assessment modelling in non-high-income countries and is led by KTH.

In recent years, a number of methodologies have been developed to explore connections across Sustainable Development Goals. At KTH researchers have been developing methods for such purpose, for instance looking at how AI, Climate Change and Action, and Energy relate to the Sustainable Development Goals Targets (see suggested references below). The Postdoc employed with this position is expected to integrate AI in the methods for exploring interlinkages across SDG targets. The goal of this project is to use a number of artificial-intelligence-based methods, in particular natural-language processing (NLP), to perform a thorough assessment of the literature with the aim of determining synergies and tradeoffs among the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their targets. The focus is on finding more robust and less obvious connections among SDGs. Using SDG 13 on climate action as entry point, the final goal is to develop a framework for data-driven decision making for policy, with the aim of maximizing the synergies within SDGs. The selected researcher will have a joint employment at the Department of Engineering Mechanics and the KTH Climate Action Centre.

The postdoctoral fellow is expected to conduct research in the subject of structural engineering and bridges and participate in the division’s ongoing projects. The research includes the development of bridge solutions with consideration of dynamics, fatigue and new materials. Important sub-areas are experimental methods connected to the evaluation of the safety and operation of bridges as well as advanced modelling, optimization and analyzes of bridges. Your own proposals for research projects in this area are also welcome.

We are offering a research engineer position based in the Organic Bioelectronics team within the Herland Lab Group at the Division of Nanobiotechnology at Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab). In this project, we are developing an electrochemical biosensor based on ”organic electrochemical transistors” technology that will be applied to the enzymatic sensing of small molecules. The work is highly interdisciplinary, including materials synthesis, device fabrication, and integration of recognition elements into the device configuration to fabricate a biosensor. It will address several research challenges, from the chemistry of the new materials to device fabrication, and biosensor development. The project is application-focused, developing a fully functional biosensor for real sample analysis.

At the Regulatory Genomics Lab, we investigate the role non-coding mutations play in human disease to enable their use for early diagnosis and treatment. Our latest undertaking aims to discover genetic variants that modulate the level of cytotoxicity cancer patients experience during chemotherapy. To this end, we will produce high-resolution transcriptome and promoter-enhancer maps of clinical samples and correlate with their medical data. We will also perform epigenetic CRISPR assays to validate regulatory activity of a set of mutations. The candidate will perform HiCap and RNA-seq on clinical samples and apply epigenetic CRISPR assays.    

You will focus on developing thermodynamic descriptions relevant to nuclear energy fuel and its interaction with cladding and coolant. You will use the CALPHAD methodology, which you are expected to master well. The research takes place within the SUNRISE center where you work together with other researchers from KTH, Luleå University of Technology and Uppsala University. You will also be linked to the international TAF-ID project. You will be responsible for maintaining continuous contact with both projects and presenting your results at meetings, workshops and conferences.

The goal of this project is to use computational-fluid-dynamics (CFD) methods for the analysis of turbulent flows around complex geometries. To this end, high-order spectral methods will be employed to perform both well-resolved large-eddy simulations and direct numerical simulations, in order to assess the influence of the relevant flow structures. We are also interested in using deep-learning methods to further understand the impact of the simulation parameters on the results and to effectively design novel strategies for optimization and control of the flow. The researcher will have the possibility to interact with several related projects dealing with large-scale turbulence simulations, deep learning and experiments. Furthermore, he/she will also have access to the multi-peta scale supercomputing facilities available at KTH, in conjunction with the Swedish e-Science Research Centre (SeRC, www.e-science.se). Finally, the researcher will become part of the excellent research environment FLOW (www.flow.kth.se).

The overall research activities of the group relate to the development of nanophotonic components regarding design, manufacturing and integration. Ongoing research projects are focused on dynamic photonic crystal-based single-mode lasers for telecom and LiDAR applications, quantum dot-based single-photon emitters, and electronics-photonics integration, “silicon-photonics”, where photonic functions are incorporated into a full-scale CMOS process. The intention of the position is primarily to strengthen the group’s competence in terms of epitaxy and component processing. As such, it will be of central importance to all ongoing research projects and thus also cover all aspects of the development work, from design and simulation to system experiments. The position does not include any requirements on teaching, but depending on needs and interest, this can be offered.

The employment as post-doc will be focussed on the design, synthesis and characterization of novel light-absorbing and conductive materials for the next generation solar cells. The work will both be independent and in a research team. The research will be performed in an active multi-disciplinary scientific environment at KTH.
