Applicants are invited to apply for a 2-year full-time CRUK funded postdoctoral research position to join Prof Crnogorac-Jurcevic’s team investigating biomarkers for early, non-invasive detection of cancer. It  spanns both a discovery of novel as well as validation of existing biomarkers in bodyfluids, including blood and urine. The research will be based in the Centre for Cancer Biomarkers and Biotherapeutics, Barts Cancer Institute, within the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London.

We are looking to appoint a Post-Doc Research Assistant in Molecular Immunology to work alongside Dr Louisa James. The available postdoctoral position will focus on identification and characterisation of antibody-producing cells and their precursors using a combination of single-cell RNA sequencing and antibody repertoire analysis.

Applications are invited to a 3-year post-doctoral position to study the role of fructose in people with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in Professor William Alazawi’s Hepatology Research Group. The aims of the project  are i) to understand fructose metabolism in primary hepatocytes, liver macrophages, stellate cells and adipose cells sampled simultaneously from patients undergoing bariatric surgery and ii) to determine the effect of fructose on human whole body and cellular metabolism and inflammation in a prospective cross-over study of high-fructose feeding in people with NAFLD.  The cross-over study will be conducted in collaboration with Professor Kevin Whelan, Professor of Dietetics at Kings College London.

The postholder will provide research assistance to Professor Christina Perry on a full-time basis for the project ‘Good Faith in Contract Law.’ The postholder will have unique opportunities to develop their academic record, capacities and skills, including establishing links with scholars and practitioners, and devising and operating academic platforms and events. The postholder will conduct primary and secondary research on good faith in contract law, with a particular focus on the UK, US, France and Germany. Under the project leader’s direction, they will develop and operate an online network of academics and lawyers in the field of good faith in contract law, alongside a range of other tasks associated with the project and the dissemination of its findings.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to join the Women’s Precision Prevention (WPP) team in the Centre for Cancer Prevention, Detection and Diagnosis. The postholder will be involved in developing and implementing novel population based approaches for genetic testing and cancer prevention. Our team undertakes novel trials in women’s cancer prevention. The postholder will work on implementation of large multicentre national trials for population level genetic testing and precision prevention. It will involve working within a multidisciplinary team and working collaboratively with multiple stake holders, including universities, Primary care networks, regional genetics services, RCGP, NHS trusts and patient support groups.

Applicants are invited to apply for a 3-year full-time Barts Charity funded post-doctoral position to join Dr Dunja Aksentijevic’s team investigating the therapeutic potential of modulating myocardial ATP homeostasis in type 2 diabetes. The position is at the Centre for Biochemical Pharmacology which brings together a group of leading clinical and non-clinical scientists researching the clinical, genetic, cellular and molecular basis of cardiovascular diseases. The Centre is based within the picturesque Charterhouse Square Campus in the heart of City of London and within the world-renowned William Harvey Research Institute at Barts and The London Medical School, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL).

The postholder will support a programme of research and engagement with Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD) and east London stakeholders aimed at developing a critically informed understanding of Higher Eductation Intitution (HEI) based civic work. They will work with two community researchers/organisers and two QM academics (Megan Clinch and Alison Thomson) to map current civic activity across the FMD and then, through a series of workshops, co-produce a civic strategy in partnership with stakeholders from the FMD and east London.

Applicants are invited to apply for a 2-year post-doctoral research position funded by the Diabetic Kidney Disease Centre (DKC) with the aim to help us further understand the epidemiology and pathology of Diabetic Kidney Disease (DKD) and to develop novel therapeutic strategies to protect this most-at-risk cohort. The project involves the use of primary and immortalized podocytes in models of cells injury such as uraemia and hyperglycaemia.

You will join the neutrino group in the Particle Physics Research Centre (PPRC), working primarily on the DUNE experiment. You will be expected to take on a leading role in the development of the DUNE Near Detector Data Acquisition System and contribute to data analysis activities within the group. Together with our close-knit team you will also be expected to work with and support our PhD students, and contribute to the broader activities of the group and School.

Applicants are invited to apply for a 3-year Barts Charity funded post-doctoral position to join Dr Sian Henson’s team investigating the role of metabolic intermediaries as drivers of inflammation and immunosenescence. The project will examine the impact of citrate on ribosomal biogenesis and transcriptional repression in the initiation and control of the inflammatory secretome produced during senescence. The position is part of the Barts Metabolism Network which brings together researchers across the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry to investigate how dysregulated metabolism leads to obesity and the significant long-term health problems that this causes.

The post-holder will work in the Centre for Evaluation and Methods (CEM). CEM is a new and thriving research centre that incorporates a number of collaborative units who work closely together to deliver outstanding research based on their combined and complementary research strengths. The post-holder will contribute in particular to Barts Clinical Trials Unit. The postdoctoral data scientist will lead  research into long-term risk of breast cancer based on digital mammography. Funding is available for this post until 31 January 2024. 

The role involves investigating transcriptional enhancer activity and 3D chromatin organisation in mammalian and Drosophila cell lines and the analysis of functional genomics experiments from cell line models to improve our understanding of epigenetic modifications, transcriptional enhancers and 3D chromatin interactions.

We’re seeking a researcher with knowledge and expertise in gene regulation and cell and molecular biology, and experience of genomics techniques. Candidates should have a PhD in a relevant field. Experience in bioinformatics is desirable but not essential.

Applications are sought for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to undertake research into complex in vitro models of the human tumour microenvironment. The research will primarily be based in the Centre for Tumour Microenvironment, Barts Cancer Institute, Queen Mary University of London but will also involve collaboration with partners in the Cancer Research UK City of London Major Centre (CRUK CoL).

A position is available for a postdoctoral research assistant to join the laboratory of Silvia Marino at the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London. The successful applicant will lead an exciting project focusing on exploiting deregulated epigenetic mechanisms to inform the design of precision medicine approaches in malignant brain tumours of childhood. It will directly build on recent work from the Marino lab on medulloblastoma, which has shown that specific epigenetic signatures can predict response to new combination therapies (Badodi et al. Nature Communications 2021 and Badodi et al. Neuro-Oncology 2022).

This post is part of an exciting strategic development to build world-leading Artificial Intelligence research within the Centre for Cancer Prevention, Detection and Diagnosis. Our group uses different machine learning algorithms, including longitudinal, network and Deep Learning methods to analyse proteomic, genetic, epigenetic and other multidimensional clinical and epidemiological data to identify and test potential biomarkers for the detection of diseases. The successful candidate will be based within the Centre for Cancer Prevention, Detection and Diagnosis, but will work collaboratively with colleagues across University College London and University of Cambridge.

A position is available for a postdoctoral research assistant to join the laboratory of Silvia Marino at the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London, to study glioblastoma, a currently untreatable malignant tumour of the brain. The successful applicant will lead a multi-organisation collaborative project focused on leveraging exciting newly developed experimental tools, including patient-derived tumour stem cells and matched iPSC-derived neural progenitor cells, as well as comparative epigenomic datasets derived thereof to understand the contribution of the local microenvironment to tumour development and resistance to therapy (Merve et al. Acta Neuropathol Commun 2019, Dumas et al. EMBO J 2020, Vinel et al Nature Communications 2021). This is a Cancer Research UK funded post based in a laboratory which is part of the Cancer Research UK City of London major centre, a partnership between the Francis Crick Institute, University College London, Kings College London and Queen Mary Medical School.

The successful candidate will seek to develop the chemistry for iterative chain extension of polyethylene glycols (PEGs), purifying the growing polymers by organic solvent nano-filtration. This involves growing the polymers on a soluble hub molecule, to which two or more growing polymers are attached. The Associate will synthesise hub molecules through repeated coupling, deprotections reactions and membrane separations on 1-10 g scale. They will analyse the growing polymer chain using UPLC-MS, GPC, NMR and other techniques. They will work on applications of these polymers in drug PEGylation and Antibody-drug constructs.
