Postdoctoral position summary/title: Research Associate for the project “NOir – Nutrient budgets in the ocean in recent and past environments: Foraminifera as keyplayers and archives” Micropaleontology; Paleoceanography.
We are seeking a motivated researcher with a keen interest in micropaleontology and biogeochemistry and its applications in paleoceanography. The work will focus on the reconstruction of past N-budgets within the NOir project. The NOir project studies two climate relevant marine biogeochemical cycles: the nitrogen (N) and phosphorous (P) cycles. Both, the modern N- and P-Cycle are massively disturbed by anthropogenic impacts via warming effects and pollutant sources such as chemical fertilizers and the burning of fossil fuels. In order to predict future changes in marine nutrient budgets, it is not only important to develop a comprehensive understanding about the recent nutrient cycles but also to reconstruct past nutrient cycling focusing on periods with strongly differing climatic conditions.
