We are seeking a Postdoc with strong bioinformatics / Statistical Genetics skills to join us. Our mission is to advance the understanding of the genetic architecture of complex human diseases and traits and to improve our ability to predict disease, target disease prevention in high-risk individuals, and tailor treatment based on individual genomic differences. The research specialist will work on large-scale genetic data analysis, risk prediction, single-cell RNAseq, and implementation of methods for studying complex human diseases, such as glaucoma and retinal diseases. We are looking for a skilled and highly motivated postdoctoral scholar with expertise in biochemistry, cell biology, structural biology, biophysics or related areas to conduct cutting-edge research on several projects focused on the role of actin binding proteins (e.g., plastins) and actin-specific bacterial toxins in the pathogenesis of human hereditary and infectious diseases, and cancer. Two examples of the lab’s priority projects are the recent discoveries of actin processive polymerization at the pointed end by Vibrio toxins (Sci. Adv., 2022) and the allosteric regulation of actin bundling proteins plastins (NSMB, 2022). Both, plastin and toxin projects relate to the mechanotransduction/mechanosensing properties of the actin cytoskeleton. Therefore, candidates with interests in mechanobiology are particularly welcomed.

A full-time Postdoctoral Scholar will be hired to dedicate 12 months each year (100% effort) to conducting a needs assessment for Ohio’s ongoing Preschool Development Grant (PDG) in the Crane Center for Early Childhood Research and Policy. The project investigates (1) the B-5 Landscape in Ohio, (2) experiences of families and children navigating Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), (3) Programs and services available to families, (4) barriers facing ECCE service providers), and (5) issues facing the ECCE workforce. Under the supervision of the Director of Evaluation and Innovation, the Postdoctoral Scholar will primarily work on the qualitative effort of this state-wide assessment but may also work on quantitative portions of the project. This will entail coordinating qualitative data collection efforts, analyzing data, and drafting the results. The Postdoctoral Scholar will engage in a variety of scientific efforts, such as conducting field studies (e.g., recruiting and assessing participants, conducting observations), generating new research proposals and ideas, conducting data analyses, and reporting, and participating in scholarly writing and dissemination activities. The Postdoctoral Scholar should have demonstrated experience in (1) qualitative data collection and analysis, including research skills and experiences in individual and group interviewing, survey design, and mixed-methods analysis (including qualitative coding, data management, data analysis, and data visualization) and/or quantitative data collection and analysis (including data cleaning, descriptive statistics, and regression), (2) writing for publication, and (3) data collection in applied settings, including child care programs, schools, and community settings. The Postdoctoral Scholar should have demonstrated interest or experience in (1) working with stakeholders from marginalized communities, (2) using human-centered design, stakeholder, participatory, or other community-based approaches, and (3) experience conducting rigorous statistical analysis. This position will require some daytime travel throughout Ohio to lead focus groups and other data collection efforts for the purposes of understanding ECCE in Ohio. Dr. Ebrahimi-Nik’s Laboratory, situated within the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC) and the Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO), is devoted to unraveling the complex interactions between immune cells and tumor cells, with a particular focus on elucidating the functional dynamics of CD8 T cells that demonstrate tumor-rejecting capabilities. We are dedicated to comprehending the multifaceted factors that contribute to the persistence and efficacy of tumor rejecting CD8 T cells within the suppressive environment of the tumor. Using a range of cutting-edge techniques including but not limited to single cell RNA sequencing paired with TCR, CRISPR, western blot on rare cells, and other functional experiments we are trying to improve our understanding of tumor immunology.

The fellowship will prepare trainees to provide a broad range of behavioral health services in an outpatient behavioral health setting, with a focus on women’s behavioral health. We provide patients with state-of-the-art care for mood and anxiety disorders, sexual health, substance use disorders and stress, with a special emphasis on the peripartum, gynecologic and breast cancers, menopause, and the menstrual cycle. In addition to providing clinical services, fellows participate in clinical supervision, didactics, and research activites as agreed upon with the mentor(s). Throughout the training year, fellows work closely with interdisciplinary team members (e.g., psychiatry, psychology, social work). Fellows will also have the opportunity to work closely with other WBH trainees and other psychology fellows in the department.
