The Centre for Integrated Preclinical Drug Development (CIPDD) within the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBMS) is seeking a Research Officer (RO), who will be responsible for the conduct of a research program in the novel pain therapeutics field funded by an NHMRC Development grant. This includes preparation of research publications, study plan writing, data analysis and report writing as well as presentations, student supervision and other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor or senior staff. The RO requires working closely with the Study Coordinator/Director and senior staff to ensure appropriate experimental designs, strong collaborator/sponsor communications and adherence to the project timelines. The RO is required to perform hands-on laboratory work, troubleshooting and to contribute to other research activities in the laboratory, including but not limited to general housekeeping, and occasional rostered weekend/after-hours work.

The purpose of the position is to support and manage research associated with the Dementia and Neuro Mental Health Research Unit (DNMHRU), at the University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research.  The DNMHRU aims to find novel solutions to improve diagnosis, treatment and care, and enhance quality of life for individuals living with neurodegenerative conditions such as dementia and Parkinson’s disease. This includes technological innovations (e.g. virtual reality, artificial intelligence, telehealth) supported by tailored digital platforms and mobile applications to improve diagnosis and enhance remote delivery of interventions for wider outreach. Currently the DNMHRU has two NHMRC MRFF Dementia, Ageing and Aged Care Mission funded research projects that this position will predominantly support (a) a technology psychotherapy program for people living with dementia experiencing anxiety and (b) the development and evaluation of a new technology-assisted intervention for early and improved diagnosis of dementia in people living with Parkinson’s disease.  The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be responsible for managing the effective design and implementation of the technologies that are part of this research, conducting research (including study initiation processes) related to design and implementation, project implementation and delivery, and collaborator relationships.

A newly-created opportunity exists to develop your expertise and emerging research profile and build a new research capability in food extrusion as part of the Premium Foods and Beverage program within the prestigious Australia’s Food and Beverage Accelerator. You will be involved in developing state-of-the-art experimental capabilities in food structure design and food extrusion, and working with industry to optimise process technologies for converting plant and other protein sources into human foods. UQ has two brand new food extruders (lab scale and pilot scale devices). You will be expected to develop research program and work collaboratively with researchers within the Trailblazer Food and Beverage Accelerator to perform both strategic and applied research and engage with industrial research partners to deliver impactful outcomes.

You will have a strong background in innovative food process technologies from underutilized crops for cross industry applications. You will work with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and other stakeholders including Australian Indigenous communities. Proven experience in getting food regulatory approval and addition to food data bases to enable market access of these products will be highly regarded, as will experience in understanding the digestion and fermentation of these novel ingredients. You will be expected to publish from this research, to generate other research outputs, and to participate in a range of outreach activities associated with the project and engage with industry partners and other stakeholder. This will be a 12-month fixed term appointment.

The Postdoctoral Research Officer position will entail a variety of skills and tasks to ensure high quality research outcomes for a program of research in the general practice setting, with scope to focus their efforts on developing their expertise and emerging research profile. As a research focused academic at level A the incumbent will be supported and guided by more senior academic research staff with the expectation of an increasing degree of autonomy over time. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be employed by the General Practice Clinical Unit (GPCU) within the UQ Medical School as a Research Assistant. This role will focus on supporting successful conduct of the MRFF funded research project RELEASE REdressing Long-tErm Antidepressant uSE in general practice. The RELEASE vision is to improve the lives of millions of Australians by decreasing unnecessary and potentially harmful long-term antidepressant use in general practice.  RELEASE is a multimodal GP-based intervention designed to prompt medication review and support tapering and stopping antidepressants when there is no indication for continued use.  

This position involves conducting high level applied research focused on improving the oral health of older people living in residential aged care facilities. This will be achieved by adapting and testing the effectiveness and feasibility of a comprehensive oral health intervention that can be delivered in residential aged care facilities (RACFs) to older residents.  Depending on background expertise, the successful applicant may be asked to contribute to co-designing, adapting, piloting, and evaluating this novel oral health intervention. The oral health intervention will be administered across sites in Queensland and New South Wales and will be formally evaluated using a parallel cluster randomised controlled trial. In addition to evaluating the impact of the intervention on oral health specifically, its impact on broader aspects of health and wellbeing will also be evaluated. Implementation will also be formally examined using a validated framework for implementation research as well as via qualitative interviews with residents, caregivers, RACF staff, dental professionals, and organisational stakeholders for translation.

The primary purpose of this position is to perform research on molecular diagnostics and ensure that the project activities, milestones and objectives are achieved on time. The project includes research activities to be performed in the laboratory as well as on pig farms.

This is very unique opportunity for a Research Fellow to engage in research to further their expertise and growing research profile to achieve national recognition in the area of sleep health of First Nations peoples. This position aims to support the research within the Let’s Yarn About Sleep program at the UQ Poche Centre for Indigenous Health. This is an exciting opportunity for you to provide specialist technical expertise in support of developing a nanobiosensor and its application to study mood disorders and circadian rhythm in a clinical cohort. You will be required to overcome fundamental challenges associated with discovering and detection of biomarkers in circadian disruption, establishing microfluidic devices for depressive disorder detection, and collaborating with clinicians for translational applications. This position is based within the laboratory of Prof Matt Trau and is part of a collaboration between the AIBN and the University of Sydney.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to develop and apply radiomics and deep learning methods to analyse medical images in oesophageal cancer. You will create and assess imaging features relevant to oesophageal cancer, essentially establishing prognostic imaging markers for the disease. The project is part of a large Cancer Council Queensland project grant involving many team members across various disciplines.
