PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in Computer Science
In this project, we want to examine the long-term risks of developing powerful and intelligent autonomous systems and how we can support AI alignment through continuous operational testing. The project has three main research focuses:
- How to continuously develop and update the value and constraint models that form the basis for testing. We will follow ongoing standardization and legislation processes and also go beyond them to explore new ways of addressing implicit human values and unknown future consequences of AI through testing.
- How to continuously identify and schedule effective and feasible tests based on the above models. We are looking at operational testing in both simulated and real-world environments.
- 3How to design interactive support for continuously reasoning about AI alignment based on collected test data. The collected data needs to be translated into automated decisions or information that is useful for a human to assess the quality of the testing and the system.

PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in Biomedical Engineering (biomechanics)
The purpose of this project is to reduce the severity of hip-related diseases during growth and adult age, by introducing a novel method for the diagnosis of hip abnormal development during growth. This can be achieved by reconstructing 3D models of the hip from 2D clinical x-ray images using a statistical shape and appearance model (SSAM). The 3D models of the hip will include pelvis, femur, and the articular cartilage, thus allowing for a novel, multi-factorial analysis of the biomechanics of the hip joint. Hip anatomy will be analysed together with the mechanical response of both cartilage and bone during daily activities, and all these aspects will be linked to the risk of developing OA.

PhD position summary/title: Three doctoral students within the doctoral school Early Languages, Digital Philology (DigPhil)
The aim of DigPhil is to create a strong and state-of-the-art doctoral research environment in early languages (up to and including the eighteenth century), educating modern philologists who are well aware of the disciplinary traditions but also have solid competence in language technology. The doctoral school broadly defines philology as the integrated study of languages and texts in their historical contexts. Philology continues a tradition founded in the Library of Alexandria in the third century BCE and consists in a dynamic and cross-disciplinary interaction between textual criticism and book history, historical linguistics, various forms of textual analysis (metrics, rhetoric, narratology etc.) and hermeneutics. Digital methods and tools can be developed and applied in all of these areas, e.g. using AI to restore fragmentary texts, making use of computational approaches in comparative historical linguistics, performing automized stylometry or narrative analysis, or reading and extracting facts from texts with data-mining methods.

Lund University is consistently ranked among the world’s top 100 universities.
Two major facilities for materials research are in Lund University: MAX IV, a synchrotron radiation laboratory – inaugurated in June 2016, and European Spallation Source (ESS), a new European facility that will provide up to 100 times brighter neutron beams than existing facilities today, to be opened in 2023.
The university centers on the Lundagård park adjacent to the Lund Cathedral, with various departments spread in different locations in town, but mostly concentrated in a belt stretching north from the park connecting to the university hospital area and continuing out to the northeastern periphery of the town, where one finds the large campus of the Faculty of Engineering.
