Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctor in mathematics

The postdoctoral project is “Quantitative Distributional Asymptotics in Metric Diophantine Approximation” and is funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation. One of the aims of the project is to provide error terms in the Central Limit Theorems for Diophantine approximants which have recently been established by Michael Björklund and Alexander Gorodnik. Another aim is to establish bounds on higher correlations for measures supported on various fractals in the space of lattices of Euclidean spaces, and to use these bounds to connect such bounds to different problems in metric Diophantine approximation on fractals.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Noiseless’ optical amplifiers and their applications

This research project deals with phase-sensitive optical parametric amplifiers (PSA) that have unique and superior properties compared with all other optical amplifiers, most notably the potential of noiseless amplification, very broad optical bandwidth, and being an enabler of a range of ultrafast all-optical functionalities. While these amplifiers have great promise for use in optical transmission, there exist many other very exciting applications as well ranging from spectroscopy, sensing, to free-space communication. We were awarded a major grant to conduct research on these amplifiers during a ten-year period. Topics include:
• Compact and high-performance nonlinear platforms for PSAs and other applications.
• Devices enabled by PSAs including ultralow noise lasers and broadband amplifiers.
• New optical amplification approaches for spatial-division-multiplexed transmission systems.
• Few-photon nonlinear optics and quantum communications.

Deadline : 15 May 2022.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Food Science – Marine proteins and Seafoods

Global seafood supply chains suffer harshly from inefficiency as roughly 25% of the total landed aquatic resource weight end up as processing by-products, mostly going to feed, but someties even to waste. Sweden ranks below the global average regarding use of fish/shellfish resources, and only 17% of our total landed biomass ends up on our plates! The VINNOVA funded project BlueBio aims to address this issue and bring together researchers, need owners and technology suppliers to develop and demonstrate a blue biorefinery platform to upcycle seafood by-products and small pelagic fish into multiple high value food ingredients such as proteins, fish oils, marine collagens and chitin as a holistic approach for increasing resource efficiency and value in the seafood chain.

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-doctoral position(s) in the theory of quantum materials and devices

Recently, an umbrella notion of quantum materials have emerged. It encompasses condensed matter systems with emergent electronic properties, either because of strong correlations or topological order. The emergence may be inherent to the material itself, for instance high- temperature superconductors, or engineered through material- and nano-science in heterostructures between different materials. Our own expertise lies in self-consistent studies of unconventional superconductors applied to describing their thermodynamic ground state, transport properties such as charge and heat conductivities, describing tunnelling probes, vortex states and mesocopic devices.

(13) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral researcher positions in Computer Architecture

For more than five decades, the speed at which computers get things done has been able to increase exponentially over time thanks to the fact that it has been possible to increase the number of transistors on a computer chip at the same pace. At this point, it is becoming challenging to fit more transistors on each chip, and at the same time the computing tasks are becoming increasingly data intensive, with everything from self-driving vehicles to analysis of massive data sets. This questions conventional wisdom how computers are built and calls for new solutions. In today’s technology, data is sent back and forth between the memory and computer chips, which costs both latency and processing power (energy).

(15) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Two postdocs in Quantum gate error reduction

Position 1 – Optimal control pulses for quantum computers
In a superconducting quantum processor, quantum gates are realized by on-resonant or near-resonant microwave pulses with the intent of inducing Rabi oscillations on the desired qubit. However, standard Rabi pulses are not robust against errors in frequency and timing, and they are also not optimal with respect to leakage into higher excited qubit states.  The goal of this project is to use advanced methods in optimal control theory to accurately manipulate control pulses for generating both single and two-qubit gates.  The candidate is expected to develop these optimal control techniques and to experimentally demonstrate improvement of the  quantum gate fidelities of Chalmers quantum processors.

Position 2 – Reduced qubit decoherence by materials modeling, process development, and device characterization
Dielectric loss is the currently dominant decoherence mechanism in superconducting qubits (Burnett 2019). Other important contributions to decoherence originate from phonons and quasiparticles. Here we propose a joint experimental-theoretical study of decoherence at the level of the physics of the constituent materials by joining forces between Chalmers and Aalto. We foresee that this effort will drastically improve our understanding of the microscopic mechanisms of decoherence and its effect on our devices, which will directly help improve the design and process development of our devices already during the project.
