The lab operates within a highly interdisciplinary, world-class environment for neuroscience research – the Department of Neuroscience at Karolinska Institute – and is part of SciLifeLab, a Swedish national center for large-scale research in molecular biosciences. The aim of the lab is to advance our understanding of the neural basis of prototypical behaviors, including instinctual and homeostatic behaviors such as aggression, fear, food, and water intake. Primary computational approaches in the lab include large-scale data analysis, graph-theoretic modeling, neural population dynamics, and diverse machine learning techniques applied to neural and behavioral data.

The aim of the lab is to contribute to a better understanding of the neural basis of prototypical behaviors, including instinctual and homeostatic behaviors, such as aggression, fear, food, and water intake. Primary experimental techniques utilized in our lab include but are not limited to; in vivo large-scale electrophysiology, miniscope and 2P imaging, AAV-mediated transduction of neural circuits of interest, and animal behavior.

At Karolinska Institutet, we conduct successful medical research and hold the largest range of medical education in Sweden. The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC have about 40 research groups and our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.

The research in Galina Selivanova’s lab is focused on the identification and studies of the mechanisms and the impact on the tumor suppression p53 on anticancer immune response. To reach this goal, we use small molecules as research tools and apply systems biology and high throughput assays, such as transcriptome profiling, ChIP-seq, and shRNA screens. We aim to bridge cancer biology with immunology studies by performing multidisciplinary research at MTC, a very advantageous environment including experts in cancer and cell biology and immunology.

The Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery (MMK) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work with Drs. Alexander Fyrdahl, David Marlevi, and Andreas Sigfridsson on sequence development, image reconstruction, and data analysis for next-generation magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Based in a clinically integrated, well-established cardiovascular imaging network, you will join a team developing and evaluating methods for improved cardiovascular imaging, using a combination of experimental and clinical studies.

We are looking for a highly qualified and motivated postdoctoral candidate with a Ph.D. in neuroscience or a related field. The candidate should have proven experience with animal mouse models, including behavior analysis, and a strong interest in sensorimotor systems, demonstrated by prior publications. Expertise in methodologies and technologies for tracing sensory circuits, both peripherally and centrally, within the somatosensory domain is essential, as is proficiency in sensory system dissection. Experience with the organization and manipulation of the brainstem region is a merit. The successful candidate should have demonstrated success in securing competitive research grants and having prior experience supervising and mentoring students in a laboratory setting.

This project focuses on the development of potential drugs that target amyloid and tau pathology for AD and other neurodegenerative diseases. We will use multiple methods to develop drug candidates, investigate their biological effects in different cell and mouse models, and validate them in proof-of-concept experiments.

This position involves the evaluation of biological effects of drug candidates. Specifically, the duties include cell culture (mouse embryonic primary neurons and human induced pluripotent stem cells), Western blot, co-immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence staining, fluorescence microscopy imaging, plasmid manufacturing, cell transfection, live cell Forster Resonance Energy Transfer imaging, drug delivery system development (such as nanoparticles), drug administration, and animal behaviour tests.

Are you passionate about metabolic research and cardiovascular health? Join our team in an innovative project linked to SCAPIS (Swedish CardioPulmonary bioImage Study), a nationwide initiative focused on advancing cardiovascular health. Recently, we have shown that the abundance of metabolites, such as glutamine and phosphocreatine, and their respective biosynthesis enzymes are perturbed in obesity (Lecoutre et al. Nature Metabolism [2024], Maqdasy et al. Nature Metabolism [2022], Petrus et al. Cell Metabolism [2020]). We are now seeking a skilled and data-driven postdoctoral fellow to follow up on this research line. More specifically, our project investigates the interplay between type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, and metabolic health by analyzing white adipose tissue biopsies using metabolomics and proteomics. You’ll work at the forefront of understanding how metabolic pathways in white adipose tissue are perturbed in people with type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, or both, compared to healthy individuals.

Our research group (www.klingberglab.se) focus on development and plasticity, with particular emphasis on working memory, reasoning and mathematics.  We are now looking for one post-doc to be involved in analytics on large databases of behavioral, genetic and neuroimaging data, conducting meta-analyses as well as initiating new research.

We are seeking an ambitious postdoctoral fellow to lead innovative research at the intersection of adipose tissue biology and cardiometabolic disease, conducted in collaboration with Novo Nordisk. This unique project aims to uncover druggable targets that link disturbances in white adipose tissue with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Our large clinical cohort includes participants grouped by the presence or absence of type 2 diabetes and/or cardiovascular disease. From these individuals, we have collected adipose tissue biopsies and will generate proteomic data for in-depth analysis. By integrating these results with clinical parameters, this project will provide the first direct association between white adipose tissue dysfunction and these serious cardiometabolic complications.

The successful candidate will conduct proteomic analyses and validate key findings in an adipocyte model system, working closely with our team and Novo Nordisk researchers. This role involves regular visits to Copenhagen for collaborative meetings, supporting a dynamic exchange of ideas and resources to accelerate progress.

We are seeking an outstanding candidate for a post-doctoral fellowship dedicated to explore the synergisms between the epigenome and the 3-dimensional nuclear architecture to effectuate oncogene expression from new perspectives. The successful applicants are expected to drive a postdoctoral project in the lab of Anita Göndör at the department of Oncology and Pathology, as well as to participate in collaborative efforts with both national and international collaborative labs with a focus on breast and colon cancer. Our lab is well-equipped including a Mi-seq machine and a 5-color confocal microscope, and located within the Theme Cancer section of BioClinicum at Karolinska Institutet.

The Department of Global Public Health is a multidisciplinary department with the aim to advance knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in a local, national, and global setting. Research at the department is focused on how different societal and individual factors affect population health, and to develop and evaluate structural and individual-oriented interventions. Many researchers at the department are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision makers at regional, national, and international levels. The department has 12 research groups, about 110 PhD students and about 140 employees.

The candidate should demonstrate enthusiasm toward basic and translational research and aim to contribute to our research programs focusing on neuronal metabolism using animal models and novel pharmacology. The candidate should also show enthusiasm towards bettering human health through basic and translatable neurobiology. The successful candidate must have a PhD with a strong background in either neuroscience, ophthalmology/visual sciences, biomedical sciences, or pharmacology. Previous experience with rodent models of ocular degenerations, medicinal chemistry/pharmacology, and metabolic assays is an asset. Practical experience in rodent husbandry, molecular biology techniques, basic neuroscience techniques, microscopy techniques, and -pharmacology is essential. The candidate must be proficient in English, both spoken and written.

We are seeking a scholarship fellow in the field of electrochemical sensors to join an interdisciplinary project in translational medical research at Karolinska Institutet. This is an exciting opportunity to involve breakthrough research on developing wearable sensor devices for medical diagnostics, using a combination of electrochemistry and sensors.

The postdoctoral fellowship will occur in Taher Darreh Shori’s research group in collaboration with associate professor, Homira Behbahani within the division of Clinical Geriatrics, department of neurobiology, care sciences and society (NVS). The research group’s workplaces are located in the Neo-building at Karolinska Institute South Campus Flemingsberg (https://staff.ki.se/neo). Our research focuses on how intracellular cholinergic signaling affects mitochondrial health, aiming to uncover insights into the selective degeneration of cholinergic neurons and develop disease-modifying therapies. Key areas of interest include the interaction between acetylcholine (ACh) pathways, mitochondrial bioenergetics, cellular senescence, and apoptosis.

We welcome applications for a postdoc position in Prof Ådén´s team that studies neonatal brain development, neonatal brain injuries and novel intervention strategies. You will be responsible for doing data management, planning studies, writing study protocols, programming and applying statistical analysis methods to epidemiological data. You will work independently to develop research questions and conduct epidemiological studies from start to finish under the supervision of the principal investigator. You will be expected to effectively communicate your work and results in both written texts and oral presentations.

The postdoc project will investigate the relationship between treatments and long-term outcomes in systemic lupus erythematosus. You will use administrative health data from primary and specialist care to investigate patients’ disease course trajectories. There will be new data sources to explore and develop, and you will be expected to take the initiative to examine their suitability for lupus research and come up with your own research questions.

Pain is a common feature of various cancers. Cancer cells actively secrete factors that promote the neuronal infiltration of tumors. Inhibiting the electrical signals of tumor-infiltrating neurons can help decrease tumor growth, but the specific mechanisms through which neurons regulate cancer cell survival remain undetermined. Building on our recent findings published in Nature (2022, PMID: 36323780), the lab of Dr. Sébastien Talbot is seeking to recruit a postdoctoral fellow to study how tumor-innervating nociceptors—typically considered bystanders—control malignant cells’ immune escape behaviors and their resistance to therapy.
