The position will be based at the Iskratsch lab. The project is a collaboration with Prof Andrew Tinker to investigate the implications on the cardiomyocyte electrophysiology and Prof Cesare Terracciano to study this complex at tissue level using myocardial slice cultures6, for which the candidate will also perform work at Imperial College London.

Our research groups prioritize a healthy research culture, collaboration, and flexible work hours as needed. We will provide personalised mentorship to the successful candidate. Previous group members continued to careers in academia and industry.

This project is funded by Wellcome and led by Prof Andrew Prendergast who is the Director of the Zvitambo Institute for Maternal and Child Health Research in Zimbabwe and has established clinical trials to improve healthy birth and growth. You will work under the supervision of Dr Tina Chowdhury at the Centre for Bioengineering in the School of Engineering and Materials Science, who has developed 3D models to target inflammatory pathways that are common in preterm birth (https://www.sems.qmul.ac.uk/staff/t.t.chowdhury).

Our goal is to better understand the pathogenesis of preterm birth which affects 13.4 million babies each year, making it the leading cause of death amongst children under five years old. You will join a transdisciplinary team of UK-Zimbabwe academics working towards understanding the complex interactions of how extreme heat affects pregnancy and preterm birth. Zimbabwe has one of the highest global preterm birth rates (32/1000 live births). Currently, there is a paucity of clinical interventions to prevent preterm birth in rural Zimbabwe. 

A PhD in a subject relevant to the project is essential.  This is an integrative project and relevant subject areas include computational biology, bioinformatics, physics, statistics, computer science and related.  Experience of code development in a major programming language (such as C, C++ or Java) is essential.  Experience of phylogenetics software development, use of high-performance computing facilities, evolutionary biology, MCMC sampling algorithms, and genome data analysis are desirable but not essential.

You should have excellent communication skills, with the ability to present your research findings both orally and in writing. You must have excellent time management skills, and the ability to complete large tasks on a schedule.  The project is highly collaborative, and you are expected to work well within a team, and have the ability to deliver production-ready software for use by other team members.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a numerate field with expertise in machine and deep learning methods, supported by high quality publications. Experience of applying such methods to healthcare data is an advantage.

We are seeking an independent and highly motivated computational postdoctoral fellow to lead their own projects, contribute to collaborative efforts and guide PhD students, if required. Our lab is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary and the ability to work in a team is essential. There are several projects currently ongoing in the lab and the candidate will have the opportunity to find their own niche of professional training and development.

Examples of projects from the lab include identification of cancer drivers in individual patients using machine learning (Mourikis Nature Comms 2019, Nulsen Genome Medicine 2021); prediction of the causal interplay between cancer genes and the immune microenvironment using statistical models (Misetic Genome Medicine 2023); development of a software for tissue imaging data and clustering of rare cell populations (Bortolomeazzi Nature Comms 2022, Martens, Bioinformatics 2023).

The post holder will be joining the Centre for Preventive Neurology at the Wolfson Institute of Population Health, Queen Mary University of London. They will work within the Parkinson`s disease (PD) group, whose studies focus on the clinical, genetic and biomarker aspects in people with PD and at risk of PD with focus on laboratory work.

The post holder will work across two projects: The Parkinson`s Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI study) is funded by the Michael J Fox Foundation and is a large-scale study creating an open-access data set and biosample library to accelerate scientific breakthroughs and treatments in PD. The second project is a case-control study undertaking detailed phenotyping, genotyping and biomarker studies in PD patients and controls in East London.

Applications are invited for a 12 month post-doctoral position to study the association between platelet age and platelet function relevant to thrombotic risk and disease progression. The successful applicant will employ a range of experimental approaches to study the roles of platelets of different ages in experimental animals, healthy human volunteers and patients with cardiovascular and related diseases. They will plan and carry out experimental work, devise strategies for further development and advancement of the project, as well as being involved in compiling the data, and assisting in the writing of abstracts, manuscripts and grant applications.

This full-time PDRA post would particularly suit an ambitious early career researcher with an interest in discovering endogenous RNAs and peptides that mediate anti-tumour immunity and the chromatin-associated proteins that regulate them, including the human silencing hub. The post is focused on non-small cell lung cancer. The candidate would work in a dynamic and diverse team at Queen Mary University (QMUL) and with external co-investigators and collaborators and this work would inform future cancer therapies and vaccines. The School of Languages, Linguistics and Film is looking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work closely with Principal Investigator on an ERC funded project entitled “Digital Al-Andalus: Radical Perspectives Of and Throught Al-Andalus”. The Earth Surface Science group at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) are seeking a postdoc in paleoceanography and paleoclimatology to work on a NERC and NSF-funded project ‘Pliocene Lessons for the Indian Ocean Dipole (PLIOD)’.

The PLIOD project is a collaboration between QMUL’s School of Geography, University College London and University of Arizona (USA). The aim of the project is to use the marine sediment archive and climate models to investigate Indian Ocean dynamics during a globally warm climate state three million years ago—the mid-Pliocene warm period. Our proposed paleodata will be used to evaluate climate model dynamics, constrain mechanisms, and advance our understanding of the Indian Ocean mean state and variability.

The major task for this postdoc is to reconstruct sea surface and subsurface and deep ocean conditions from marine sediment cores from the Indian Ocean. This project uses material from the International Ocean Discovery Program and its previous iterations.

We have an opportunity to join the Centre for Multi-omics, working with some of the world leaders in the genetic discovery of molecular traits, that underly disease mechanisms. Our group identifies genetic regulation of common, complex diseases to discover new drug targets and indications.

We have unique multi-omic biosample repositories for research from consented patients, and available for longitudinal follow-up, from our culturally-diverse local East London population. We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Postdoctoral Research Assistant with interest/expertise in psychoneuroimmunology or related field to work to work with us investigating the mechanisms behind the antidepressant effect of physical exercise. The position is funded by the Wellcome Trust for three years in the first instance (Life Study). You will work at the Translational Pharmacology Lab directed by Dr. Livia A. Carvalho. The mechanisms we are interested involving neuroendocrine, immune, and metabolic systems. The School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary University of London is looking to recruit two Postdoctoral Research Assistants to support projects in the CSR group co-supervised by Prof. Arumugam Nallanathan and Dr Yuanwei Liu. The role will be part of an EPSRC-funded TITAN extension project on federated multi-modal learning for sensing and communications.

A Postdoctoral Research Assistant position is available at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) to work with Dr Alex de Mendoza. The post-holder will be funded by the ERC Starting Grant on a project entitled “Deciphering the Evolution and Roles of cytosine DNA methylation across eukaryotes”.

This research position will work on a project aimed at understanding the role of DNA methylation in various unicellular and multicellular eukaryotic species. These species hold key phylogenetic positions aimed at maximizing our taxon sampling, allowing ancestral reconstruction of DNA methylation functions across the tree of life of eukaryotes. We use a combination of functional genomics approaches to rigorously test the roles of DNA methylation in some of these species. Additionally, in vitro methods will be used to understand the role of DNA methylation “readers” in these species. This project will investigate comparative epigenomics of early animal evolution, and the impact of viral endogenization in epigenome evolution. The findings from the project will address long-standing questions in epigenetics research, providing mechanistic insights into how one of the most studied base modifications arose. The post holder will join a multidisciplinary, diverse, inclusive team with frequent meetings, interactions, and high-quality mentoring.
