Postdoc summary/title: Teagle Postdoctoral Fellow
Saint Louis University’s College of Arts and Science invites applications for a three-year Post-Doctoral Fellow. The successful applicant will work with a faculty-led team in the University-CORE at SLU for a new initiative, Confluence: Where the Sciences Meets the Humanities. This initiative is supported by a Cornerstone: Learning for Living grant, funded by the Teagle Foundation, under the auspices of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Our goal is to create a program of general education based in “transformative texts.” Such texts—similar to “great books”—are, in the words of the “Teagle Foundation,” primary source “works of literature, art, and philosophy” that raise questions that students are “otherwise unlikely to encounter in their undergraduate career, and at a moment in their lives when they are open to confronting humanistic questions as part of their education.” Such texts can come from across the disciplines and frequently highlight the interconnected nature of academic knowledge. This program, while available to all SLU undergraduates, will be specifically targeted at students in STEM fields.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post Doctoral Fellow – Di Cera
NIH funded postdoctoral positions are available to study the structural enzymology of proteins responsible for blood coagulation (https://biochem.slu.edu/faculty/dicerawp/) with the goal of unraveling the molecular architecture and mechanism of the underlying interactions. The approach uses a combination of conventional (rapid kinetics, protein engineering, X-ray crystallography) and innovative (smFRET, cryo-EM) biophysical techniques. Current projects in the lab focus on the interaction of prothrombin with prothrombinase, leading to generation of thrombin and blood clotting, the activation of factor V required for assembly of prothrombinase and the interaction of the thrombin-thrombomodulin complex with protein C that halts the coagulation response. Additional studies focus on factor V short and its interactions with TFPIalpha, protein S and factor Xa and on proteins of the contact pathway like factors IX, XI and XII. Experience in rapid kinetics, smFRET, X-ray crystallography, NMR, or cryoEM is required.
