The successful candidate must be able to work independently, as well as in a team environment, pay close attention to detail and adhere to deadlines regularly. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. He/she/they will be detail-oriented, self-motivated, a fast learner, and possess excellent time management, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. The ability to take direction and use independent judgment to meet experimental goals and deadlines is required. The successful candidate must be able to independently develop experimental protocols and approaches to troubleshooting experimental protocols, and perform advanced planning of experiment setups, data collection, and results for analysis. A strong commitment to experimental goals, career goals, and deadlines is required. Therefore, willingness to work into the evening and occasional weekend work is absolutely required. Prior post-doctoral experience is not required for this position.

The Briney Lab is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to join us in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at Scripps Research. We use a combination of advanced single cell multi-omics techniques and sophisticated computational tools to deeply explore the antibody response to emerging infectious diseases. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who will contribute to antibody discovery projects against a variety of viral targets, including Lassa, Ebola, HIV, SARS-CoV-2, influenza and others. The antibodies we discover have potential use as therapeutics or as templates for rational vaccine development. 

Postdoctoral Associate position is available immediately at The Scripps Research Institute in the laboratory of Dr. John Teijaro, whose lab is interested in studying the innate and adaptive immune response to acute and persistent viral infections. Immune suppressive environments during persistent/chronic viral infection prevent excessive immune pathology but also impede the ability of the immune system to eradicate infectious virus from the host. Conversely, excessive inflammation during acute viral infections can reduce viral loads but also lead to severe immune pathology and even death. The focus of the Teijaro Lab is understanding how immune suppressive and pathological environments are generated, maintained and reversed, with a specific focusing on how type 1 interferon (IFN-I) production and signaling regulates these two states. The Teijaro lab is looking at various viral infection models with respect to the above including: LCMV, Influenza, SARS-CoV2 and Measles virus.

The Dr. Lotz lab at Scripps Research is looking for a highly motivated individual with strong background and technical expertise in cell and molecular biology and bioinformatics for our program on transcription factors in joint biology and arthritis pathogenesis. In a newly funded program about mechanisms of joint tissue destruction and joint pain, we are using Omics technologies (RNA-seq, single cell-RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, epigenetic analyses, spatial transcriptomics) to identify dysregulated transcription factors and test candidate genes in vitro and using mutant mouse strains. Genes that are identified to be essential regulators of homeostatic processes or to promote arthritis pathogenesis are tested in viral gene delivery approaches and used in drug screening assays.

Postdoctoral Associates are appointed positions for the purpose of developing scholarly competence, working under the supervision of a Scripps Research Faculty member.  These appointments are normally not renewed beyond a total of five years.  Postdoctoral Associates cannot apply for external funding either as a Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator without prior approval from a Departmental Chair.  Postdoctoral Associates do not have consulting privileges.

A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the Lotz laboratory at Scripps Research, La Jolla, California. The Lotz lab focuses on the discovery of molecular and cellular mechanisms that are dysfunctional in spine and joint diseases and other musculoskeletal conditions during early stages of pathogenesis to create a foundation for therapeutic interventions to prevent disease onset and slow progression.

Successful candidates will contribute to the development and application of new approaches to assess the impact of genetic diversity for different gene targets. Skill-sets of interest include expertise in tissue culture, biochemical tools (SDS-PAGE, immunoblotting, ELISA, protein assay) and a good working knowledge of molecular techniques including transfection with plasmids/siRNA for transient protein expression in cell-based reporter systems.  Candidates with skill-sets that can be applied to the understanding of genetic diversity through computational approaches, including machine learning, to explore the basic mechanisms of protein fold structure design and therapeutics development using large datasets are of high interest.

An NIH-funded Postdoctoral Associate position is available for a motivated individual to join the lab of Professor Pietro Paolo Sanna at The Scripps Research Institute to study the neurobiology of substance abuse and neuroAIDS. This dynamic multidisciplinary research team uses in vivo, biochemical and genomic strategies including gene expression anlaysis by single cell RNA-Sequencing, electrophysiology and the establishment of neuronal cell types from induced pluripotent stem cells and fibroblasts.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will join the Law laboratory to manage and execute the NIH-funded P01 Program “Broadly Effective HCV Vaccine”. The goal of this research program is to develop a vaccine candidate that can elicit potent and broad immune responses against the antigenically variable hepatitis C virus (HCV). The research program involves several laboratories at Scripps Research and the Southwest National Primate Research Center at San Antonio.

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate. The Droujinine Lab develops novel methods to identify and characterize novel secreted factors that coordinate organ and organism functions in homeostasis and disease in mammalian systems. To that end, we established an in vivo global proteomic platform to investigate secreted protein trafficking between organs in mice. To learn more please visit www.scripps.edu/droujinine. Ideal candidate will lead their own project, and perform mammalian cell culture, in vivo mouse experiments, quantitative TMT mass spectrometry proteomics, metabolomics, western blot, pulldowns, DNA cloning, immunostaining, confocal microscopy, high throughput screens, and bioinformatic data analysis. Significant emphasis is placed on the professional development of the Postdoctoral Associate.
