This is a grant funded opportunity with a specific focus on complications arising due to the presence of bacterial biofilms in surgical implants working with the Department of surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
The Laboratory of Dr. Mithun Sinha in the Department of Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to conduct bench experiments, animal-based assays and surgeries. The post doc will participate in data analysis, contribute to writing manuscripts and grants, and disseminate the research outcomes in regional and national conferences. Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
We are seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Dr. Jaeyeon Kim, an associate professor, in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM-Indianapolis) and IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Dr. Kim studies the molecular mechanisms underlying the development and progression of ovarian and breast cancer with genetically engineered mouse models and human specimens. The current research focus is to elucidate a conundrum surrounding high cancer risks and distinct cancer susceptibility among BRCA1 carriers. Despite the fact that every cell in their body has a harmful BRCA1 mutation, these women are predisposed particularly to ovarian and breast cancers. It remains a mystery. A seminal study (PNAS 2020; PMID: 33262282) from his lab points to the ovarian hormone progesterone as the culprit for BRCA1 carriers’ distinctive susceptibility to ovarian and breast cancer. Integrating this novel insight and unique Brca1 mouse models, his lab is seeking to decipher the molecular mechanisms underlying the progesterone regulation of ovarian and breast cancer development in BRCA1 carriers—with an emphasis on DNA damage/repair, cell-cycle checkpoint regulation, and immune modulation. This innovative, high-impact research will not only reveal a basic molecular mechanism of cancer susceptibility with BRCA1 mutations, but this knowledge will also offer an innovative strategy for the effective nonsurgical prevention and control of these formidable cancers wreaking havoc on women.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow – Brain and Behavior Research
Dr. Yao-Ying Ma’s Laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology/Stark Neurosciences Research Institute at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) in Indianapolis is accepting applications for a postdoctoral researcher position. Candidates with a Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience / Neurobiology / Behavioral Neuroscience / Neuropharmacology or other related fields, are encouraged to apply. Experience in rodent brain surgeries, behavioral tests, confocal imaging, ex vivo patch clamp, in vivo calcium imaging, or in vivo single unit electrophysiological recordings, is preferred although not required. Comprehensive hands-on training in any of the techniques mentioned above will be provided as needed. Research in Dr. Ma’s group is supported by NIH/NIAAA, NIH/NINDS, NIH/NIA, Brain & Behavior Research Foundation, Indiana Spinal Cord & Brain Injury Research Fund, etc. There are 3 major directions actively pursued, e.g., (1) neuro-substrates mediating long-term persistence of cocaine craving and opioids dependence; (2) synaptic adaptations induced by prenatal and adolescent alcohol exposure; (3) neural adaptations involved in psychiatric symptoms of neurodegenerative diseases. The Ma lab utilizes state-of-the-art molecular, biochemical, anatomical, electrophysiological, optogenetic, chemo-genetics and behavioral approaches to elucidate neuroadaptations in neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders. The lab’s research achievements have been published in high-impact journals in the neuroscience fields.

A post-doctoral research position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Makram Obeid. The postdoctoral fellow will test research hypotheses in rodent seizure models and cell cultures, primarily utilizing molecular and cell biology techniques. The Obeid lab investigates the mechanisms of seizure emergence and their effects on cognitive and behavioral neurodevelopment in rodent seizure models. Our primary goal is to identify molecular targets for novel treatment strategies. The laboratory employs a variety of molecular techniques, longterm continuous EEG monitoring in rodents, and neurobehavioral testing panels. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to independently plan and conduct experiments under the guidance of the PI, using molecular and cellular biology techniques that include, but are not limited to, cell culture, western blotting, PCR, gene knockdown and overexpression, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry. Laboratory work will involve animal handling and the potential participation in neurobehavioral testing. Work may also involve electrode implantation surgery and EEG recording in rodents (initially semi-independently under the PI’s supervision). The postdoctoral fellow is expected to collect and analyze data, summarize findings, and participate/assist in the preparation of scientific manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and possibly grants. The duties also include training lab personal, participating in laboratory and equipment maintenance, ordering supplies as needed, performing literature review, updating research protocols and design, and potentially developing new ideas that serve the research goals set by the PI.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow – Chlamydia Research
The Nelson laboratory in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Indiana University School of Medicine is seeking a senior postdoctoral fellow who will investigate the molecular basis of chlamydial tissue and host tropism using emerging molecular genetic approaches. The ideal candidate would have extensive experience in chlamydia cultivation and pathogenesis, chlamydial genetics, and in dissecting the transcriptomics of host cell and intracellular pathogens during infections performed in model systems and in vivo using microarrays, RNA-sequencing and or Single-cell sequencing approaches. The Dementia Laboratory’s focus is on the molecular neuropathology of neurodegenerative diseases. Our aims are to expand our knowledge of the mechanisms of neurodegeneration. Neurodegenerative diseases may first affect language, cognition, motor systems, and emotions. It is necessary to identify the anatomical areas and systems primarily affected. Specifically, we strive to understand the earliest stages of intracellular alterations in the anatomical areas whose function appears to be involved in the earliest clinical symptoms. From there, we follow the progression and spread of the neurodegenerative process to anatomical areas that are synaptically connected to the regions primarily affected. Our efforts help to clarify the architecture of the neurodegenerative process. Neuropathology, biochemistry and molecular genetics aid in elucidating the stages of neurodegeneration in individual anatomical areas through the analysis of diseases studied postmortem on individuals who were at different stages of the disease process at the time of their passing.
The Dementia Laboratory consists of faculty, staff and students focused on expanding the knowledge on neurodegeneration and the associated misfoled proteins. It provides an environment for a multidisciplinary approach to the study of neurodegenerative dementias. The Dementia Laboratory’s Brain Library contains specimens from well over 2500 individuals collected over the past 45 years offering a unique opportunity to study a wide range of neurodegenerative diseases occurring in a variety of ages, sexes, and racial and ethnic groups.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Pathology & Laboratory Medicine
The Dementia Laboratory, co-led by Drs. Bernardino Ghetti and Kathy L. Newell of the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Division of Neuropathology, has immediate full-time openings for one or more outstanding, highly motivated post-doctoral research fellows with special interest in molecular pathology of neurodegeneration related to aging as well as sporadic and genetically-determined dementias and motor neuron diseases. These include Alzheimer’s Disease, Frontotemporal Dementias, Parkinson’s Disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Prion Diseases. The faculty of the laboratory are well funded including having been awarded several NIA and NINDS grants, which involve local, national and international collaborations with leading scientists. Research data is published in high impact factor and high quality journals.
This is a three-year fellowship that provides the opportunity to develop and expand knowledge in the neuropathology of human neurodegenerative diseases using light microscopy, immunohistochemistry, electron microscopy, immunoelectron microscopy, fluorescent multiplex immunohistochemistry, digital spatial profiling, quantitative digital image analysis,and cryo electron microscopy. Additionally, fellows have the opportunity to participate in and develop multidisciplinary projects integrating neuropathology with cutting-edge brain imaging, clinical neurology, protein chemistry, and molecular genetics as well as communicate and collaborate with leading researchers from around the world. Fellows may focus on one or more misfolded proteins and acquire an understanding of co-pathologies of amyloids simultaneously involving a single anatomical system.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Medicine
We seek a recent PhD or MD graduate motivated to work in a great environment to acquire skills and expertise for the straightforward pathway to independence. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Connectomics
Drs. Meichen Yu and Andrew Saykin from the Indiana Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (IADRC) at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM), have immediate full-time openings for one or more outstanding, highly motivated post-doctoral research fellows with special interest in human connectomics in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The Lab’s overarching goals are 1) to achieve a better understanding of the brain network and neurophysiological mechanisms leading to AD, 2) to improve early detection and longitudinal monitoring by combining neuroimaging (i.e., MRI, PET and MEG) and fluid (i.e., CSF and plasma) biomarkers and 3) to analyze genomic data to identify novel targets for diagnostic use and therapeutic intervention. Fellows will work on research problems using rich data sets and leading-edge analytic approaches supported by multiple NIH grants (R, U and P programs). Fellows will take the lead in preparing manuscripts for publication and contribute to major grant applications while collaborating on other projects as part of a multidisciplinary team science effort. Fellows are also encouraged to write fellowship or other early career appropriate grant applications commensurate with their level of professional development. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Anesthesia
The objective of this project is to identify novel brain and neurological biomarkers for integrative and non-pharmacological treatment of chronic sickle pain conditions. Multidisciplinary approaches including clinical neuroimaging and basic biomedical bench techniques will be used in human subjects and animal models, respectively.
Qualification: The applicant will be working in a collaborative environment of a strong research environment on campus and will have opportunities to work on wide-spectrum basic and translational pain and neuroimaging research projects using biomedical (e.g. fluorescence imaging, molecular biology, cell culture, immunohistochemical assays, circuit manipulations, mouse surgery or behavioral assays) and electrophysiological recording (in vivo extracellular recordings and patch clamp recordings in brain slices or dissociated neurons) in rodent models, as well as neuroimaging techniques (fMRI, EEG, simultaneous EEG–MRI, simultaneous PET–MRI) in human subjects.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Pathology & Laboratory Medicine
The Dementia Laboratory in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Indiana University is seeking an outstanding candidate for a postdoctoral position. The selected individual will participate in research focused on the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration in diseases caused by TDP-43 misfolding. The lab will also continue exploring TDP-43 in its hybrid form as associated with annexin A11. These research projects are funded by the NINDS and will be carried out under the direction of Drs. Kathy L. Newell and Laura Cracco. The studies will be carried out using methodologies of proteomics and genetics. Protein extraction from the brain tissue of individuals with frontotemporal dementias, TDP-43 characterization by biochemical methods and transmission electron microscopy will take place in parallel with neuropathological and structural studies.
The Dementia Laboratory has active collaborations with national and international laboratories including the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (Cambridge, UK) and ICGEB (Trieste, Italy). This postdoctoral research position will be an appointment in the Ropa Lab (find more information and relevant publications at https://ropalab.academicwebsite.com/) in the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at Indiana University School of Medicine located in Indianapolis, IN. Projects currently focus on studying intrinsic and extrinsic factors that regulate hematopoietic cell potency, particularly in the context of cell therapies, and studying how those regulatory axes become dysregulated during disease. The lab pursues both data driven and hypothesis driven projects that have basic and translational impacts on the field. Trainees in the lab are encouraged to work on established projects while also developing ideas of their own. While on job training can be provided, preference will be given to candidates with experience in cell culture techniques, biochemical assays, and/or the use of animal models. We are seeking candidates with a passion for understanding pediatric HIV and its global health implications, as well as a drive to contribute to meaningful scientific advancements. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Appointee
A Postdoctoral Appointee position is available in Dr. Tasneem Sharma’s lab at the Department of Ophthalmology and Glick Eye Institute, Indiana University School of Medicine. We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Postdoctoral Researcher to join our pioneering efforts in aerospace medicine and space biology at the Indiana University School of Medicine. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research investigating the physiological and psychological impacts of spaceflight. Our program focuses on human analog studies to simulate microgravity and explore countermeasures, including neuro-ocular health interventions.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Medical & Molecular Genetics
The Ware lab is interested in understanding the genetic basis of congenital heart defects/disease, including heterotaxy and cardiomyopathy. We seek to identify novel genes causative of these diseases, or novel variants in known causative genes. To achieve this goal, we work with clinicians to acquire tissue samples from patients with these different congenital heart defects, which undergo sequencing and bioinformatics analysis to identify potential causative variants. We utilize multiple models to validate these genes/variants, including mouse, Xenopus (frogs), stem cells and mammalian cell lines.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Stark Neurosciences Research Institute
The Dage Lab at the Indiana University School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our innovative research team. Our lab focuses on developing precision medicine approaches for diagnosing neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, through the discovery of blood-based biomarkers.
This position is funded by the Alzheimer’s Disease and Aging Cohort Consortium (ADACC) U24 grant (Wake Forest PI: Dr. Michelle Mielke, IU mPI: Dr. Nicole Fowler) and will involve cutting-edge research in Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. The primary goal of this research project is to establish a national consortium, the Alzheimer’s Diagnosis in Older Adults with Chronic Conditions (ADACC) Network. This consortium will consist of multidisciplinary investigators dedicated to developing evidence-based strategies for the use and implementation of biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) in older patients with multiple chronic conditions and cognitive impairment.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Medicine – Hematology/Oncology
One to two postdoctoral positions are immediately available in the research laboratory of Dr. Ana Mendes Leal at Indiana University School of Medicine. The candidates will work on funded projects with a focus on translational cancer immunology and drug discovery. The recruits will be joining projects in targeting the Nrf2 pathways and nuclear factors, and they will have an opportunity to develop independent focus. They will have an opportunity to collaborate with other laboratories at Indiana University Simon Cancer Center. With the translational focus, there will be opportunities to direct their research to direct patient applications and treatments. Candidates should have experience in in-vitro and mouse models (xenograft, GEMM, etc). Experience in cancer biology and immunology is preferred.

A full-time Post-Doctoral Research position is available in the Department of Neurological Surgery. The candidate will assist the principal investigator in conducting research on pediatric brain tumors, primarily pineoblastoma. Our research is focused on examining the molecular mechanisms of tumor progression and the identification of novel drug targets using genomic and proteomic techniques as well as human stem cell models. The candidate must be comfortable with advanced molecular biology techniques and bioinformatics. We are seeking a self-directed, self-motivated, curious, creative, and well-organized candidate with experience in stem cell and cancer biology, molecular biology, next-generation sequencing techniques, bioinformatics, proteomic analysis, and animal handling to join our team.
