Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Characterization and metabolic modeling of methane fed microbiomes for co-metabolism of trace organic chemicals in groundwater – DTU Sustain
Intense agricultural and farming activities lead to pollution of the environment via run-off of nutrients and other organic pollutants (e.g., pesticides) to different water bodies. High nutrient levels can lead to eutrophication and may reach levels that prevent water use for drinking purposes. The project will address the removal of nutrients and pesticides from groundwater taking advantage of methane already present in many groundwater streams. The project relies on the use of bioinformatics to characterize the methane fed microbiomes and provide input data for metagenome based metabolic models. These models are then used to optimize bioreactors to treat groundwater. The postdoc will work with a team of interdisciplinary researchers as part of the project Metagenome-based Metabolic Modeling for Green transition of Water Treatment – application to Methanotrophy, granted by the Danish Research Council.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Multiscale Modeling of Fatigue Crack Growth in Engineering Materials – DTU Sustain
If you want to establish your career as a scientist and provide the best possible foundation for fulfilling your dreams and ambitions, it is right in front of you. At DTU Sustain, you will break new ground at the absolute forefront in understanding the basic mechanisms of fatigue in heterogeneous materials to enable a physics-based approach for modeling and characterization. We will achieve this aim by seamlessly integrating in situ x-ray microtomography, novel digital volume correlation techniques, and innovative finite element and multiscale modeling approaches to assess the evolving 3D displacement and strain fields at various length scales. We aim thereby to impact the field significantly, predicting the emergent behavior of heterogeneous materials without resorting to phenomenology but directly unraveling the micro-mechanical origin of macroscopic behavior.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Vitamins – Investigation of the Enigmatic Vitamin D Production in the Sea – DTU Food
Currently, phyto and zoo plankton are regarded as the vitamin D source for fish, but research data do not fully support this assumption. Moreover, fish skin contains the precursor to vitamin D and formation of vitamin D in fish has been demonstrated. Our new post doc will characterize the food web for vitamin D in the ocean, investigate light induced vitamin D in fish skin including elucidation of the physico-chemical process. Essential part will be quantification of the vitamin D vitamers and precursors by advanced LC-MS/MS techniques and NMR. You will also be involved in analytical aspects of other projects in the research group. Do you find the topic interesting, then perhaps you are our new postdoc within the field of vitamin D! You will be working in the Research Group on Bioactives – Analysis and Application at the National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark (DTU Food). One of the focus areas of the research group is investigation of the natural content of vitamins in foods and their bioavailability. The group has a dynamic staff with high international visibility, many research collaborations with leading international universities and organisations and a successful track record of national and international research projects.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in the fabrication of metal supported solid oxide cells – DTU Energy
If you are planning to establish your career as a materials scientist with particular attention towards electrochemical energy conversion and storage devices and looking for best possible platforms to fulfil your goal, DTU energy is offering a postdoctoral position in the fabrication of metal supported solid oxide cells. The position is a part of our broad project portfolio in the area of development and upscaling of metal supported solid oxide cell technology. The reduction and finally removal of fossil fuels in the energy and transport sector is an important ambition, seconded by specific targets in several parts of the world. In this context, shares of electricity production from wind and solar are increasing. The fluctuating and interruptive nature of these sources require means of storage and “difficult-to-electrify” sectors (shipping and aviation) needs green fuels. Solid oxide electrolysis (SOE) technologies owing to their high efficiencies can solve this challenge by converting excess electricity into storable compounds such as hydrogen and high energy density transportation fuels. SOE have reached a matureness allowing for demonstration and field-testing, based on electrolyte-, fuel electrode-, and metal-supported cell (MSCs) configurations. Among those, MSCs have received particular attention because of their mechanical robustness and reduced costs compared to the other configurations. To further mature this technology, development of scalable and robust fabrication process for the manufacturing of MSCs is crucial.
