(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position in microresonator frequency combs (microcombs)

An optical frequency comb is a laser source with evenly spaced, narrow frequency lines that maintain phase coherence across the spectrum. Microresonator frequency combs (microcombs) offer a chip-scale alternative to femtosecond mode-locked lasers, with advantages in frequency synthesis and metrology, from advanced communications to radio-frequency photonics.

Our group has demonstrated high-efficiency microcombs based on silicon nitride, with applications in coherent optical communications and nonlinear physics. We seek a postdoctoral fellow to explore new research avenues, including integration with active devices like microtransfer printing and hybrid techniques.

The Photonics Laboratory at the Microtechnology and Nanoscience Department (MC2) is a dynamic, international group of about 30 members. We conduct both fundamental and applied research in optoelectronics, nanophotonics, and fiber optic systems. Our state-of-the-art laboratory and in-house cleanroom facilities enable us to develop cutting-edge photonic devices.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Position in Aviation Noise and Emissions Prediction

You will lead the development of a system-level noise model for ducted fans and propellers, with particular focus on the effects of boundary layer ingestion. The work also includes:

  • Whole-aircraft noise prediction
  • Flight trajectory optimization
  • Environmental and societal impact assessment of future air traffic, including hydrogen and electric aircraft
  • Integration of AI techniques into a multidisciplinary framework for aircraft and air traffic system modeling

The aim of the Postdoc project is to contribute to increased knowledge on the complex interaction between cracks and deterioration effects. In current codes, the crack width on the concrete surface is limited, to obtain durable structures. There is also a large focus on cracks and crack widths at inspections of existing structures. However, despite major research efforts, the effect of cracks on durability is still debated. Ongoing long-term tests will be combined with accelerated testing methods. (17) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in frontier research on novel 2D materials for thermal management applications

We aim to develop a completely new 2D hexagonal boron nitride (hBN)-based thermal interface material in this project. The hBN material offers high thermal transfer performance while providing electrical insulation for AI booted electronics and battery cooling in electric vehicle applications.

Scientifically, the following parts will be included in the research: 
a) Fabrication and optimization of large-scale hBN films of high quality with high in-plane thermal conductivity
b) Development of hBN thermal interface material that combines a high degree of compressibility and recovery
c) Modeling, simulation and characterization of phonon transfer across such nanoscale interfaces.

The work will be conducted in collaboration with industrial partners in Sweden and globally, primarily with the Chalmers Vinnova 2D Tech center. The research work will also include thermal and materials characterization including using RAMAN, FTIR, DSC, DMA, TGA, LFA and 3-Omega measurement methods etc.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Two Postdoctoral positions in High Performance Computing

Your work will consist in the porting and optimization of parallel and heterogeneous programming models for the upcoming multiprocessor systems developed in the DARE project. The focus of DARE are long vector multicore architectures based on the RISC-V instruction set architecture. The goal of our team is to develop effective runtime support to program these architectures using the OpenMP and SYCL programming models.

The core team currently consists of nine members, four male and five female. We are part of the computing systems unit, which includes four professors. The team participates in many Swedish and European projects, and also collaborates with Riken R-CCS. We meet once a week to discuss updates and research topics. In addition the team leader holds an individual supervision meetings with PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.

Our research infrastructure is provided mainly by NAISS (National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden) and C3SE (Chalmers Centre for Computational Science and Engineering). Our partners and funding projects provide access to hardware testbeds, such as RISC-V vector processors, Fujitsu A64FX, Graviton3, FPGAs, etc.

As a postdoctoral researcher you will be given significant autonomy and responsibility. You will participate in the co-supervision of PhD students, and you will be involved in teaching. Courses on supervision and teaching skills are offered by Chalmers. The goal is to effectively prepare you for a future academic career. Research-only positions can be considered. Postdoctoral positions is designed for a two-year period, with the opportunity to extend the employment to three years.
