A postdoctoral researcher appointment is available in the Carpenter Nanoparticle Spectroscopy Group (https://www.carpentergroup.site/) in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The Ohio State University. The postdoctoral researcher will perform independent experiments in single-molecule and single-particle optical spectroscopy, centered around the heterogeneity and chemical dynamics of biological nanocompartments and nanomedicine particles. The researcher will work independently on research projects decided on jointly by the postdoctoral fellow and the PI, and is expected to generate data and insights for scientific publication and presentation at professional meetings.

As a member of a recently established lab, duties will also consist of establishing single-particle microscopy and spectroscopy infrastructure, including sample preparation protocols and construction of optical microscopes designed for single-particle and single-molecule measurements. The individual will also assist with the general development of the lab, including assisting with funding proposals and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in sample preparation protocols, optical techniques, data analysis, and scientific communication. 

Conducts research and development efforts as a Post Doctoral Scholar at the Smart Materials and Structures Laboratory under the supervision of Prof. Marcelo Dapino. The Post Doctoral Scholar will focus on research in the area of ultrasonic additive manufacturing (UAM); prepares and documents information resulting from these studies and reports to sponsors; prepares research results and reports, conference and journal papers, and technical presentations; assists in mentoring student employees; attends research group and unit meetings.

A multi-state project funded by USDA Sustainable Agricultural Systems, seeks a Postdoctoral Scholar to assist our interdisciplinary team translate science to practice and create evidence-based Extension programming on regenerative agricultural practices for the Midwest Corn Belt. The main responsibilities are to 1) support the development, piloting, and dissemination of the decision support tool for farmers and policy makers; 2) bridge gaps between the project’s modeling and extension teams in development of an integrated model (soil health, water quality, policy and economics), conduct focus groups and help in extension education programs.

The Research Associate will support a collaborative research project between OSU and Funder focused on improving food utilization, dietary quality, and food security in Appalachian communities. This role involves applied research, evaluation, and nutrition-informed guidance to inform community food distribution and education strategies.

The successful candidate will serve as a research associate and a lab manager in Dr. Grace Shin’s lab at the Department of Neurology (www.shin-lab.com). The successful candidate will also have opportunity to collaborate with research teams at OSU, Johns Hopkins, and Columbia. They will be exposed to cutting-edge quantitative microscopy in projects that investigate neuro-immune interactions in neurodegenerative conditions, such as chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy and nerve injury. Specifically. it will be at the Research Associate 1-B/H level, who participates in planning, design, execution, and management of research projects in a foundational (basic) biological/health science research laboratory investigating neuro-skin-immune interactions in the Department of Neurology; participates in developing and implementing goals and objectives of studies; designs and executes complex laboratory experiments; performs advanced molecular and cellular advanced light microscopy, machine/deep learning-based image analysis, immunofluorescence labeling, and cutting-edge tissue processing techniques; primarily in mouse model organisms and human patient samples focusing on PNS and skin histology; collects, analyzes and interprets research data; assists with development and implementation of new and/or revised research methodologies and techniques; tests experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods and make recommendations for utilization; assists in establishment of controls, criteria and research standards; performs critical analysis of literature relevant to research being undertaken; assists in the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at national and international conferences and workshops, and in the writing of project reports, articles and other documents; assists principal investigators in the preparation of proposals to obtain new or renewal of extramural funding in support of research; coordinates laboratory activities and work assignments of graduate and undergraduate students, and laboratory research staff; oversees and coordinates periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment; performs additional duties as assigned.

Research performed is the studying of stem cell and organoid biology, neurodegenerative disease with an emphasis on mitochondrial dysfunction and non-coding RNAs. The research will integrates human iPSC-derived models and mouse systems, and a translational focus toward clinically relevant therapies. Research will utilize electrophysiology as well as molecular biology workflows; comfort with bioinformatics/omics (e.g., scRNA-seq, ATAC-seq) and AI-assisted data analysis in addition to familiarity with mitochondrial assays, live-cell imaging, or high-content/automated analysis

Post Doctoral Scholar conducts research to dissect the mechanisms driving the transformation of immunosuppressive cells within the tumor microenvironment (TME), identify and characterize novel factors that contribute to the immunosuppressive landscape, and engineer targeted therapeutics to modulate the TME for safer and more effective cancer treatment. These will include the use of biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, molecular biology, proteomics, animal modeling and mouse genetics, translational medicine, and/or the use of human tumor models of solid tumors (e.g. breast cancer, colon cancer, neuroblastoma). Participates in analyzing data for reports for the purpose of grants submissions; trains staff in molecular biology techniques and general laboratory skills; assists PI with grant proposals to obtain outside funding from state and federal agencies; participates in analyzing data for reports for the purpose of grants submissions.

We are inviting applications for 2 postdoctoral positions in our laboratory at The Ohio State University, Wexner Medical Center, Department of Neurology & Neuroscience Research Institute. Our lab focusses on axon-glia interactions and on how glial metabolism regulates axon integrity and myelination (e.g., Nature Neuroscience, PMID 32807950; Nature Neuroscience, PMID 25195104; PNAS, PMID 28484008). Examples for current projects are in vivo and in vitro mechanistic studies on how metabolic perturbations in oligodendrocytes result in compromised axon integrity, and research on metabolic adaptations in Schwann cells/oligodendrocytes that support the survival of injured axons.  The Post Doctoral Researcher will pursue specialized research training, education and experience under the guidance of a scientific mentor in the Department of Neurology; plan, design and execute experiments of considerable scope and complexity in the assigned research lab; collect and analyzes data for research sponsored by appropriate agencies and Institutions; identify and select problems to be studied; develop and troubleshoot new experimental techniques and protocols; attend research seminars; contribute to manuscript preparation and support technical writing; participate in preparation of grant applications for extramural funding; perform additional duties as assigned.
