Applications are sought for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to undertake research investigations in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) in order to realise the objectives and development of the research programme. The post holder will investigate critical survival and proliferative pathways in B-cell malignancies. The project aims to explore EMT-like activation in FL and CLL, assessing promising therapeutic targets. This is a pivotal step toward future drug development and subsequent clinical trials.The research will be based in the Centre for Haemato-Oncology, Barts Cancer Institute, within the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London.

The Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) is a Cancer Research UK Centre of Excellence whose work aims to transform the lives of those with and at risk of cancer through innovative research in the laboratory, in patients and in populations. It is one of six institutes within The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD) BCI is internationally renowned in many areas of cancer research and it combines ground-breaking basic research with the expertise of clinicians and clinician scientists from the Centre for Experimental Cancer Medicine and the Barts NHS Trust to achieve improvements in cancer patient care. BCI is also a partner in the CRUK City of London Major Centre (together with UCL, Kings and the Francis Crick Institute) which is a Centre of Excellence in Biotherapeutics.  BCI is committed in supporting and developing future cancer researchers through its extensive postgraduate training.

The project aims to develop new routes to high efficiency solar energy conversion – both for photovoltaics (PV) and photoelectrocatalysis (PEC) – by producing nanocomposite thin films of ferroelectric and photoactive materials. Ferroelectric nanostructures will be developed that demonstrate a bulk photovoltaic effect, which will then be coupled to high efficiency light absorbers, such as photocatalysts or halide perovskites. These nanocomposites will be studied in detail using both experimental and computational techniques in order to understand and thus optimise their interactions and ultimately the device efficiency.

This position is for a PDRA to carry out computational modelling activities on the project in collaboration with Prof. Keith Butler (UCL). In particular, the activities will be focused on: computational screening for suitable materials; development of ab initio atomistic models of the material interfaces, including molecular dynamics simulations of molecular dipoles; scale up of models to larger length scales. This post will build on previous work on the project to implement computational screening methods to identify suitable materials combinations and interfaces, and development of a Density Functional Theory (DFT) methodology to model complex interfaces with efficient use of resources. The successful candidate will therefore be able to make rapid progress, particularly focused on applying machine learning interatomic potentials to model large numbers of molecular dipoles at the interfaces. They will also join an established team of 3 PhD students and 3 postdocs on the project who work on experimental aspects. Therefore, this post will involve an exciting opportunity to interface computational and experimental work.

This opportunity is for candidates interested in academic positions who would be able to grow their skills and output leading to employment opportunities (previous lead moved for family reasons). The ideal project PDRA, with physical chemistry or similar background, will use our significant preliminary results and have a chance to complete more than one paper (likely >3) in less than a year. Applications are sought for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to undertake research investigations in collaboration with and under the supervision of Dr Özgen Deniz in order to realise the objectives and development of the research programme on the “Epigenetic Regulation of Transposable Elements in Cancer”, deciphering regulatory mechanisms of transposons at RNA and DNA level in acute myeloid leukaemia. The research will be based in the Centre for Haemato-Oncology, Barts Cancer Institute, within the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London.

A postdoctoral research position is available to investigate the epigenetic and signalling mechanisms at the transition from normal to pre-cancerous. This is a collaborative project between cancer epigenetics experts and computational biologists to understand how stress signals rewire the epigenome and cell identities.

The candidate will be highly motivated and self-driven with interest in cancer and/or developmental biology to study the molecular mechanisms underlying craniopharyngiomas, a paediatric Wnt-driven hypothalamic-pituitary tumour. This project lies at the boundary between tumour and developmental biology and aims to establish how oncogenic b-catenin bearing stem cells initiate tumour formation. The lab employs transgenic models, developmental biology and bioinformatics techniques to understand early stages of tumour formation.

The post-holder will have proven ability to performed molecular biology techniques such as protein and gene expression (immunostaining, in situ hybridisation), DNA cloning, characterisation of genetic variants using biochemical assays (western, luciferases, in vitro cell culture), murine in vivo work & experience in managing mouse colonies (highly desirable for the post). Good knowledge of software for statistical analyses (graph-pad), editing figures (image-j, photoshop and illustrator) are essential. Genetic variant database-searches (Cosmic, ClinVar) and some bioinformatic knowledge would be beneficial for the post, although training will be provided by in house bioinformatician. The post-holder will be self-driven and ambitious and will be encouraged to formulate their own scientific questions arising from the data generated. The post-holder will work in close collaboration with clinical-scientist, bioinformaticians and geneticists.

Applicants are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant position in machine learning for wireless networks in the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science. The role will be part of an EPSRC-funded project on Scalable Hybrid Architecture for Wireless Collaborative Federated Learning (SHAFT). The Centre for Theoretical Physics (CTP) at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) invites applications for a fixed-term 2-year Postdoctoral Research Assistant position in Theoretical Physics. Applicants should have a strong research record within theoretical physics and show potential to contribute strongly to the CTP’s research goals, particularly in the broad area of scattering amplitudes. We are seeking a postdoctoral research assistant to join the group of Dr Mirjana Efremova in the Centre for Genomics and Computational Biology, to work on a CRUK funded project to investigate the role of cell plasticity in metastasis in colorectal cancer. Our lab is focused on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying cell plasticity in metastasis and therapy resistance. We use single-cell multiomics and spatial transcriptomics data from patient samples and patient-derived organoids (Efremova et al. Nature; Efremova et al., Cell Reports) and develop computational methods (Efremova et al. Nature Protocols, 2020; Jain et al., Genome Biology).

We are looking for candidates with a strong background in nanofabrication, molecular and/or nanoscale electronic devices, quantum transport, and cryogenic experiments.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Space Plasma group at Queen Mary University of London to work on a project exploring the controlling role that turbulence plays in the inner heliosphere using plasma simulations and data analysis. The post is funded by STFC as part of a Consolidated Grant. The project will use plasma simulations to study how turbulence can control the key plasma processes of particle energization, shock dynamics, and turbulence-driven reconnection. The simulations will be motivated and tested against results from Parker Solar Probe (PSP), Solar Orbiter and Magnetospheric Multiscale MMS. The project will build on collaborations within the Space Plasma group with Prof David Burgess, Dr Chris Chen and Dr Heli Hietala, and there will be opportunities for collaborations across the data/simulation boundary.
