PhD  Program summary/title: PhD Position F/M High-performance computing compilation schemes using dynamic analysis

In this PhD thesis, we focus in the inference of high-performance computing compilation schemes, thanks to dynamic analysis on a selection of execution traces. The PhD student will revisit the key ingredients of parallel/optimizing compilers: data placement, computation scheduling and partitionning and code generation. In particular, the PhD student will investiguate how to select execution traces to ensure code coverage and how to extrapolate the results of dynamic analysis to polyhedral compilation mappings. A compilation infrastructure will be built on top of LLVM to validate the results on the polyhedral compilation benchmarks.

(07) PhD Degree – Fully Funded

PhD Program summary/title: PhD Position F/M Learning Non-rigid Surface Matching

The Ph.D. will take place within the Morpheo research team at Inria Grenoble Rhône-Alpes. The team deals with the capture and analysis of dynamic scenes from multi-camera studios, and operates its own 68 camera acquisition platform and cluster, http://kinovis.inrialpes.fr

The PhD topic is on surface matching which is  the process of finding correspondences between shape surfaces. Of particular interest whithin the Morpheo context is the application of surface matching to 3D human reconstructions with different body poses and dynamic clothing as captured  along time in dynamic mesh sequences. The objective is to achieve 4D temporally coherent meshes across complex dynamic scenes, e.g., mesh connectivity does not vary from frame-to-frame. The PhD will investigate learning based strategies for that purpose.

PhD Program summary/title: PhD Position F/M Learning Statistical Human Anatomic Models of Shape and Motion

In this project the PhD will research the relations between the observations obtained with these two modalities (internal and external scanning), and provide innovative methods in order to infer the internal measurements from the dynamic external ones. Precisely, there are two main objectives. The first objective is to create a statistical anatomic model of the human body, accounting for the distribution of adipose, muscle and bone tissue. The second objective is to develop methods to obtain a subject-specific instance of the anatomic model from external dynamic measurements of the human body.

PhD Program summary/title: PhD Position F/M Dynamic Precision Training of Deep Neural Network Models on the Edge

The PhD candidate will work on the algorithmic/optimization aspects of reduced/mixed precision DNN training. A starting point will be the investigation of gradient-based backpropagation methods and the development of mixed-precision variants, with a main focus of using dynamic and adaptive number format precision choices in order to enhance energy efficiency [9, 10]. In a second stage, the candidate will also study alternative training strategies in a dynamic/mixed precision context that might show enhanced convergence guarantees and/or are more tolerant to low precision numerical effects. In particular, we will study and develop dynamic mixed-precision methods based on second-order optimization algorithms [11] and on hierarchical neural network modelling [3].

PhD Program summary/title: PhD Position F/M Hardware Acceleration for Dynamic Mixed Precision Training of Deep Neural Network Models on the Edge

The PhD will be concerned with the arithmetic and hardware generation aspects of the mixed-precision training approaches being devised in the context of CominLabs LeanAI project. The main task will revolve around building a toolkit of software/hardware co-design methods related to arithmetic operations in the context of training, which will rely on existing high level synthesis (HLS) tools from established vendors (such as those from Xilinx) for deployment. A large part of the work will revolve around the design of custom mixed-precision operators for the various operations performed during training and inference (e.g. dot product / matrix multiply operations and activation function evaluation).

PhD Program summary/title: PhD Position F/M Security-enhancing compiler against side-channel attacks

This thesis focuses on building a security-enforcing compiler, and will
collaborate with another Ph.D. student working on designing and implementing the
secure processor. A possible roadmap for that thesis is as follows:
– study the state-of-the-art related to secure compilation and side-channel attacks
– design the input language: an extension of the C language with annotations
describing which variables or memory zones should be considered confidential.
– specify, in collaboration with our partners, the security mechanisms that
should be provided by the hardware.
– extend an existing compiler (Jasmin [1] or CompCert [2]) to enforce the
security policy described by the annotations, leveraging the security
  mechanisms exposed by the hardware.
– securely optimise the programs: by performing a static timing analysis of the
input program, the compiler may realise that some protections are superfluous,
and can be skipped while still meeting the security requirements.

PhD Program summary/title: PhD Position F/M Force-based criterion for in-situ analysis of physical activity at work: application to load carrying

the objective of this thesis is the development of an force-based criterion for the analysis of the physical activity of the operator, exploitable in-situ, i.e. from data that can be acquired on site, without impact for the activity. To develop this effort criterion in a relevant application framework, we will focus on a very common task in an industrial environment: the bimanual load carrying. Indeed, the handling of heavy objects concerns many sectors of activity: the logistics sector for storage or order preparation, the construction sector for the

PhD Program summary/title: PhD Position F/M A DISTRIBUTED AND TRUSTED WEB OF FORMAL PROOFS

These goals can be summarized as follows. Determine how to do naming in highly distributed proof libraries. A key component of most proof methods is the use of bound variables at the level of proof structures: these are called eigenvariables by Gentzen and λ-bound variables by many logical frameworks. While this concept of proof-level-binding is treated well in modern proof systems [DM19], when we need bindings to work in the highly distributed setting of W3Proof, an entirely new approach to such bindings must be taken. A good starting point for this kind of binding construction is to use various well-known cryptographic constructions. Structuring and sharing theories and proofs. Libraries of theorems and proofs need to be treated as emergent structures, just as Wikipedia is an emergent feature of the basic protocols’ underlying structure of the web (URL, HTTP, HTML, etc).
