Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral fellow in Artistic Research in Music

We are looking for a practitioner engaged in any musical activity which may benefit from reflective research.  Malmö Academy of Music announces a position as Postdoctoral Fellow in Artistic Research in Music, with a special interest in systematic methods from areas such as organology, systematic musicology or music theory that impact the creation and performance of contemporary music.  Systematic methods founded upon quantitative scientific analysis have recently been engaged into interdisciplinary debate over emergent properties and networks. In daily life, emergence is complex, large-scale behaviour resulting from numerous interactions at smaller scales, such as when thousands of birds’ swarm, moving in harmony without centralized control. In music, one example of large-scale behavior is a composition that results when individual components become entangled to present the illusion of connectivity.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral fellow in Plant Biology

The employment is part of the 5-year project “PlantEra – Biomolecular and structural comparisons of ancient and modern plants– tools for tracing phylogeny and survival strategies during mass extinctions”; https://kaw.wallenberg.org/en/research-projects-2020. Within the project framework, exceptionally well preserved 50-200 million year old plant remains will be studied including plant groups that survived several mass extinctions, while others went extinct. We aim to identify subcellular differences between the survivors and those that perished. Fossils will be compared with modern related plants regarding microstructure, biomolecules and trace elements, using multiple methodologies. In parallel, modern relatives of ancient plant species will be investigated for physiological, metabolic and molecular responses to paleomimetic growth and stress environments. Functional properties will be modeled based on structural characteristics. This project will provide a unique insight into evolutionary biomolecular relationships between extinct plant groups and our modern flora, and gain information about the adaptation of plants to drastic environmental changes and contribute knowledge about physical functions that control the resilience and survival of plants under critical environmental conditions.

About Lund University, Scania, Sweden – Official Website

Lund University  is a prestigious university in Sweden and one of northern Europe’s oldest universities. The university is located in the city of Lund in the province of Scania, Sweden. It traces its roots back to 1425, when a Franciscan studium generale was founded in Lund. After Sweden won Scania from Denmark in the 1658 Treaty of Roskilde, the university was officially founded in 1666 on the location of the old studium generale next to Lund Cathedral.

Lund University has nine faculties, with additional campuses in the cities of Malmö and Helsingborg, with 40,000 students in 270 different programmes and 1,300 freestanding courses. The university has some 600 partner universities in nearly 70 countries and it belongs to the League of European Research Universities as well as the global Universitas 21 network. Lund University is consistently ranked among the world’s top 100 universities.

Two major facilities for materials research are in Lund University: MAX IV, a synchrotron radiation laboratory – inaugurated in June 2016, and European Spallation Source (ESS), a new European facility that will provide up to 100 times brighter neutron beams than existing facilities today, to be opened in 2023.

The university centers on the Lundagård park adjacent to the Lund Cathedral, with various departments spread in different locations in town, but mostly concentrated in a belt stretching north from the park connecting to the university hospital area and continuing out to the northeastern periphery of the town, where one finds the large campus of the Faculty of Engineering.
