(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate for the Project “EPOC”
For the work in the EPOC project ‘Explaining and Predicting the Ocean Conveyor’, we seek a candidate with an interest in the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) and observing methods for ocean circulation. The project is funded by Horizon Europe and includes a consortium with partners in Germany, France, Norway, the UK, USA and Canada. The applicant will work on ocean transport measurement methods using in situ sensors (e.g., moored and autonomous platforms, drift-free ocean bottom pressure) and satellite remote sensing (e.g., altimetry including SWOT, gravimetry). A particular focus of the successful applicant’s work will be on using new ocean pressure instruments to reconcile the geostrophic reference level for ocean transport measurement, and on designing an optimal observing system for the AMOC as an Atlantic-wide circulation pattern.

We are looking for two research associates that join our project “Clouds and Tropical Circulation” which is part of the Cluster of Excellence CLICCS – Climate, Climatic change, and Society. The project addresses the question to which extent the tropics warm and how the circulation systems respond to this warming. Our goal is to better understand the processes that govern how the tropics responds to radiative forcing with a focus on the dynamical response, cloud processes, and the associated precipitation patterns. Within this framework the topics of the projects could range from turbulence to radiation, dynamics, and microphysics and will be specified in accordance with the candidates.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate for the Project “The Pricing of Climate Risks in Financial Markets”
The research focus of the group is on the interactions of financial markets, climate economics and asset pricing. Important topics of the project are, for example, the pricing of climate risks, the performance of green and brown assets and the effects of belief differences about climate change on prices and optimal climate policies. The project includes both, theortical work on state of the art climate finance models as well as empirical work that uses, among others, machine learning techniques to analyze financial market and climate data. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate for the Project “Second Messenger Signaling in Astrocytes” within the SFB 1328 „Adenine Nucleotides in Immunity and Inflammation“
The central goal of the SFB 1328 is to further our understanding of the regulatory roles of intracellular adenine nucleotides (cAMP, NAADP) as well as extracellular adenine nucleotides (ATP, ADP) and their kinetics in the context of inflammatory diseases. The Division of Neurophysiology investigates the role of astrocytes in brain function and pathophysiology (neuroinflammation). We employ two-photon/confocal calcium and cAMP imaging combined with patch-clamp electrophysiology, optogenetics and immunohistology. The successful candidate will be part of the team that uses these techniques to study second messenger signaling in astrocytes in acute brain slices of the hippocampus and the olfactory bulb. Performing and analysing imaging experiments as well as antibody staining of fixed tissue will be part of the duties.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate for the Project “Cluster of Excellence ‚CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter‘- Nonlinear X-Ray Scattering”

Current numerical weather prediction (NWP) models are characterized by large uncertainties in the initial state as well as in the short-range forecasts in the tropics. Tropical analysis uncertainties play a crucial role for the accuracy of extended-range prediction in the extra-tropics. We are inviting applications from candidates interested in the data assimilation and initialization problem in the tropics focusing on the large-scale equatorial waves and the relative value of wind field and mass-field observations in data assimilation for NWP. Applicants from disciplines other than meteorology, who are keen to employ their knowledge to the initial-value problem in NWP, are also encouraged to apply. In this exciting novel project, the influence of single water molecules attached to building blocks of life, e.g., adenine, thymine, or uracil, on the photo-induced electronic dynamics will be investigated in isolated microsolvated systems. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate for the Project “Study of chromosome movements during meiotic prophase I”
The aim of the above mentioned project is to describe chromosome dynamics in meiosis in Arabidopsis thaliana and to assess its importance for recombination. We will use a by us newly developed method of live cell imaging of meiosis together with genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology and genomics tools. Focus will be on the analysis of centromeres for their pivotal role in chromosome pairing.
