Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Research Associate § 28 Subsection 1 HmbHG (2 positions)

Research associates will be expected primarily to teach and conduct research. The research associate will also have the opportunity to pursue further academic qualifications, in particular a doctoral dissertation. At least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the research associate’s own academic work. The applicant is expected to initiate and conduct research projects, analyze data and publish research findings as a first author. To gain maximum benefit from the research surroundings, the applicant‘s research interests should fit into the scope of the departments‘ focus on mechanisms of psychotic symptom formation and maintenance and their translation into novel interventions. The infrastructure for both basic and intervention research for patients with psychotic disorders is available. The applicant will be expected to teach within the clinical Bachelor and Master of Sciences Programs with 2 LVS, which is equivalent to 2 seminars, lectures, or colloquia within each term.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate § 28 Subsection 1 HmbHG (3 positions)

Research associates will be expected primarily to teach and conduct research. The research associate will also have the opportunity to pursue further academic qualifications, in particular a doctoral dissertation. At least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the research associate’s own academic work. The research topics include the synthesis and characterization of novel colloidal nanoparticles (magnetic, plasmonic, or photoluminescent) and/or their assembly into microscopic and macroscopic functional superstructures. As an example of microscopic superstructures, multifunctional magnetic or optical objects in solution can be mentioned, with applications in nanobiomedicine, for instance. Examples of macroscopic superstructures are optically active new aerogel materials with potential applications in photocatalysis, electrocatalysis, and sensing. Studying structure-property relationships using modern analytical techniques (such as optical spectroscopy, electrochemistry, spectroelectrochemistry, porosimetry, magnetometry, and electron microscopy) on the new materials provides insights into the connection between nano- and microstructure and the resulting material properties.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate for the Project “Cluster of Excellence ‚CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter‘ – Theory of advanced x-ray techniques for studying the dynamics of energy-storage materials” § 28 Subsection 3 HmbHG

The successful candidate will develop theoretical ab initio models to devise novel x-ray analytical techniques for studying dynamics in energy-storage materials. In particular, they will develop the theoretical framework for chemically sensitive x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS). This technique has potential to be sensitive to uncover time scales, binding mechanism and characteristics of motion of cations in materials exhibiting enhanced energy storage properties, such as pseudocapacitance. They will employ state-of-the-art electronic structure and molecular dynamics simulations to describe the electrochemical processes, electronic structure changes and cation transport dynamics, and subsequently predict expected measurement signals. This study will lay the foundation for novel x-ray techniques at next-generation storage-ring x-ray sources and x-ray-free electron lasers.

Applicants are invited for a postdoctoral research position in the areas of time-domain astronomy, compact binary evolution and the exploitation of large astronomical surveys. The successful candidate will join the BlackGEM collaboration and is expected to exploit this facility.
