PhD position summary/title: PhD scholarship in Catalytic Oligomerization of Olefins – DTU Chemical Engineering
Are you interested in a career in chemical engineering with focus on heterogenous catalysis and reaction engineering then DTU Chemical Engineering is offering an exciting PhD position on catalytic oligomerization of olefins, a key step in an overall methanol to jet fuel process. The project is in collaboration with the Topsoe A/S company and University of Copenhagen. The project is organized under Innomission II – MissionGreenFuels, which is funded by Innovation Fund Denmark. For more information see: MissionGreenFuels.
This PhD project will study oligomerization (OLI) of medium olefins (C3 to C6) to jet fuel range olefins (C8 to C16) in a flow reactor using solid acid catalysts. In the full process, the feed olefins will originate from an upstream methanol to olefins (MTO) reactor, and a specific task of this project is to study the integration of the OLI with MTO. E.g. how does the MTO olefin product composition influence the OLI reactions and product composition, and will impurities such as water, methanol and other oxygenates affect the OLI process. Furthermore, an existing OLI reactor setup designed for gas phase reaction must be upgraded to allow both liquid and gas phase operation.

PhD position summary/title: PhD scholarship in switchable f-block–organic framework materials – DTU Chemistry
A PhD scholarship is available at the Department of Chemistry, Technical University of Denmark. The project will be under supervision of Professor Kasper S. Pedersen and is starting September 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The f-elements of the periodic table play an essential role in numerous technologies, including catalysts, magnets, and photonic devices. Their distinct characteristics are intricately linked to the electronic configurations of the f-element ions, and any modifications in these configurations result in dramatic changes in their physical and chemical properties. The aim of the project is to bring about a paradigm shift in the design of switchable materials, by delving into the uncharted territory of f-element valence change (VC). The VC materials will be constructed using rigid metal-organic framework (MOF) structures, enabling them to exhibit rapid and cooperative responses to external stimuli such as temperature, pressure, and light. This conceptually new class of chameleonic materials exhibits prompt changes in magnetic, electronic, or optical properties upon stimuli and are promising candidates for applications in memory devices addressable by light, optoelectronics, and sensors. Likewise, the entangled nature of the photonic, electronic, and magnetic properties of the hypothesized materials may provide for entirely novel multifunctional materials, opening new horizons for advanced technologies.

PhD position summary/title: PhD scholarship in Deep Learning Theory and Differential Geometry – DTU Compute
As our new PhD student, you will study modern deep learning approaches and develop a theoretical understanding potentially based on differential geometry. In particular, deep neural networks perform surprisingly well on unseen data, a phenomenon known as generalization. However, existing machine learning theory does not fully explain this behavior, leading to the development of new approaches.
A promising explanation is that models are implicitly regularized during training, an effect attributed to the properties of the optimization technique. Intuitively, stochastic optimizers tend to converge to flatter minima in the complex loss landscape, which is believed to correlate with improved generalization. Likewise, the behavior of neural networks is influenced by architectural choices and various training techniques applied during learning, known as inductive bias.
