27 Postdoctoral Fellowship at University of Oslo, Norway

Applicants are invited for a two year position as Postdoctoral Fellow in antibody biology and design to be based at the Laboratory of Adaptive Immunity and Homeostasis, Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo. The position is also open for candidates who have completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellow period at UiO, and these candidates will be evaluated for a two year position as a Researcher (SKO 1109).

The position is intended to strengthen ‘open schooling’ (Norwegian: Skole i Verden) as a field of research and social innovation. ‘Open schooling’ refers to initiatives where schools collaborate with local communities, organizations, enterprises and governmental bodies offering students learning opportunities by inquiring into real-life issues and challenges. Open schooling as a field of research and innovation became established at ILS through the H2020 project “Science Education for Action and Engagement towards Sustainability” (SEAS) (2019-2022) (www.seas.uio.no) and projects Action for Sustainability through Knowledge co-creation (ASK) and Skole i Verden (SiV) (www.skoleiverden.uio.no) building on SEAS. 

A 2-year postdoctoral position with flexible starting date is available in the Computational Biology and Systems Medicine group led by Marieke Kuijjer at the Centre for Molecular Medicine Norway (NCMM), Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo, Nordic EMBL partner (see https://www.kuijjerlab.org/ for more information). The group was established in 2018 and focuses on using computational approaches to understand the molecular mechanisms that drive cancer development, progression, and heterogeneity. The group’s driving hypothesis is that the complex clinical phenotypes we observe in cancer cannot be adequately defined by individual layers of molecular data. Instead, we must consider the underlying network of interactions between the different biological components that can drive cancer phenotypes. To do so, the group develops computational approaches that place genomic data into the context of large-scale, genome-wide regulatory networks, as well as approaches to analyze such networks for individual cancer patients.

The PlatFAMs project focuses distinctively on intergenerational experiences in relation to the platformisation of family life, by studying 1. the impact of digital platforms through the life course as expressed in family practices; 2. the negotiations between family members and across generations about the use and implications of digital platforms; and 3. how different age groups within diverse families create and co-construct imaginaries of digital futures. The core of the project is the study of up to hundred three-generation families in five European countries (Norway, Estonia, UK, Romania and Spain) over a two-year period, across different spaces online and offline, using a breadth of qualitative and participatory methods. In addition, we will do secondary analysis of longitudinal quantitative data across European countries. The Postdoctoral fellow will be expected to take part in collecting and analysing the Norwegian data.

The fellowship period is 2 years, and is devoted to carrying out a project on the role of aquaporin water channels in brain physiology and during disease processes. Aquaporins are channel-forming membrane proteins expressed throughout the body. Brain contains several aquaporins, where aquaporin-4 (AQP4) is the predominant aquaporin expressed in astrocytes.

We seek a candidate who can contribute to Work Package 2: Formal Ontology and to the project as a whole, based on expertise in formal ontology and/or areas of logic or philosophy that are relevant to formal ontology, including formal branches of metaphysics.

The position will focus on conducting high quality research into processes of building and implementing digital antimicrobial resistance surveillance systems in the public health sector in India and Sri Lanka. The candidate will conduct extensive and extended ethnographic fieldwork in India and Sri Lanka and develop research questions and analyses that contribute to the interdisciplinary objectives of the EquityAMR project. 

The supporting grant for this position is part of the project “Orthogonal gauge duality & non-commutative geometry” funded by the Research Council of Norway.  The candidate should have research interests related to the themes of this project, which are the homological algebra of algebraic varieties (e.g. derived categories of coherent sheaves, semi-orthogonal decompositions, non-commutative K3 surfaces) and moduli spaces and enumerative geometry of sheaves/curves (e.g. Donaldson-Thomas/Gromov-Witten invariants).

The Electronics Section at the Department of Physics hosts research groups involved in several disciplines, typically developing sensor technologies and instrumentation for areas such as subsea research, space physics, high-energy physics, and medical technology. The latter area includes Oslo Bioimpedance and Medical Technology Group (OBMTG), which also hosts members from the Oslo University Hospital.

The successful candidate will be working mainly on the microevolutionary aspect of this project, studying the effects of trait integration and mutations on the evolvability and population-level divergence of venom and venom-associated molecular traits. The person will work in the interface between molecular evolution, evolutionary bioinformatics, and evolutionary quantitative genetics and use approaches such as analyses of venom- and non-venom-associated transcriptomic expression traits, venomics-guided gene regulatory network analyses, and analyses of mutation-accumulation experiments. Sampling and data analyses will be primarily based on from already collected samples or in-house lab cultures of lacewings, but the person will also have the opportunity to contribute to field-collection and breeding of lacewings as well as be involved in other aspects of studying venom evolvability.

The Voicing Democracy Research Group brings together scholars from different disciplines to explore democracy and citizenship from a cultural and textual perspective. Through multifaceted and interdisciplinary research on texts – both historical and contemporary, artistic and non-artistic, and across different media – the group initiates a new interdisciplinary research field: The study of ‘textual citizenship’ as it is practiced in and across different areas of society. This includes investigations into the historical origins, present conditions, and future prospects of relevant cultures of expression. The overarching aim is to gain knowledge of the cultural and textual workings of modern democracy, as well as to develop new theoretical and methodological concepts and models for such studies within a national and international context. In this way, the group’s research will broaden and deepen our understanding of textual practices that challenge contemporary democracy within politics, art, media, bureaucracy, education, and practises that help support, develop, and invigorate democratic culture.

The Department of Musicology, University of Oslo, welcomes applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in the field of ‘music and nature’. The topic for this post is broadly conceived and can be located in the intersection between music and one or more of the following themes: aesthetics and ethics, affect and embodiment, philosophy and historiography, politics and meaning. The postdoctoral position is part of a new project called PALMAR (“Paleogene Basin Development on the Vøring and Møre Margins”), a collaborative project between the universities of Oslo, Bergen, and Tromsø and two industry partners. The project is based on recent scientific core data acquired by the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) in 2021, in combination with high-resolution 2D and P-Cable 3D seismic data acquired in 2020 and 2022. The postdoc candidate will work in a cross-disciplinary research environment together with PhD students, postdocs, and researchers. The postdoc will work in Oslo, but collaborate with researcher in Bergen and Tromsø.

The Particle Physics section of the Norwegian Centre for CERN research (NorCC) has an opening for an experienced Researcher in distributed computing to join the University of Oslo team involved in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The present ATLAS physics analysis involvements of the Oslo research group include searches for new physics, including dark matter, supersymmetry and other exotic phenomena, as well as studies of the Higgs boson. The group is heavily involved in distributed computing, software development and the ATLAS detector upgrade, particularly in relation with the planned new tracking detector ITk. The research program is carried out in close collaboration with the University of Bergen.

A 3-year full time position as researcher related to the project “The Medicalisation of Democratic Rights in the Debate about Abortion (MEDRA)” is available at The Sustainable Health Unit (SUSTAINIT), at the Faculty of Medicine, The University of Oslo, Norway.
