(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral fellowship in physical chemistry: Microscopic structure in plant seeds by scanning X-ray diffraction

Biological materials such as plant seeds, bone, and skin present a variability of microscopic structures, which in turn determine the complex functionality for life and health. The spatial variability of microscopic structure is of high importance to better understand how mechanical loads and chemical environments affect the materials in structure and function.

In this context, small- and wide-angle X-ray diffraction with a microfocus beam is an emerging technique with strong future prospects that allows to study the spatial distribution of specific nanoscopic structural patterns. In addition, simultaneous X-ray fluorescence allows to monitor the related chemical compositions in the different spots.

As central goal, this project supervised by Associate Professor Felix Roosen-Runge aims at the characterization of macromolecular microstructure in plant materials, and related implications for optimization of extraction protocols for more sustainable food products. Proteins from plant seeds present promising opportunities to replace animal-derived food proteins with a more sustainable, healthy and affordable protein source. However, plant seeds have been selected for efficient and long-lasting storage of proteins, so that an efficient non-destructive extraction of proteins presents a considerable challenge. In this context, microscopic structure is an essential information for novel extraction pathways.

The postdoctoral researcher will be part of a collaborative network of students and researchers at the division of Physical Chemistry (http://www.physchem.lu.se) at Lund University.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-doctoral fellow in Physical Chemistry

The main duties involved in a post-doctoral posistion is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position shall include the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in rheology, both in bulk and at interfaces. In this project, we want to answer the question what are the key characteristics that an individual soft colloid has to have in order to obtain the desired macroscopic properties of a material under flow? To determine the response of individual particles to the flow, i.e. if they change size, shape, internal architecture, and how this reflects on the structure formed by the colloids and on the flow properties of the material, we will combine rheology with in situ neutron reflectometry (NR), small-angle neutron (SANS) and x-ray scattering (SAXS). We will determine the structural reorganization due to flow. Small-angle scattering (SAS) and NR are experimental tools which allow us to investigate structures on the colloidal length scale, 1-300 nm. In particular the candidate, in collaboration with a PhD student, will investigate the behaviour of soft colloids at interfaces. To do so, one the main work task of the candidate will be the realization of a customised double wall ring (DWR) interfacial rheometer combined with a Langmuir trough to study the flow properties of soft colloids at the interface. This will also involve visits to our collaborator at the Institute Laue Langevin (ILL, FR) RWTH Aachen (DE), ETH Zürich (CH), and possibly University of Delaware (US).

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral researcher in Cognitive Neuroscience

The project leverages recent methodological advancements in cognitive neuroscience to investigate the neurocognitive basis of flexible switching between multiple languages, focusing on the roles of memory and cognitive control systems. Alternating between languages is a skill extensively trained by early bilinguals and multilinguals. Over the past two decades, a substantial body of research has deepened our understanding of how these abilities are related to memory, context, and cognitive control. Despite this progress, the specific neurocognitive mechanisms that enable the rapid regulation of multiple languages remain poorly understood. This project seeks to fill this gap by examining the temporal dynamics of language and code-switching, moving beyond merely identifying brain regions to enhance our knowledge of the timing and interactions of the underlying neurocognitive mechanisms.

By employing advanced multivariate pattern analysis (MVPA) techniques with electroencephalography (EEG), we aim to decode language-specific neural representations as they are dynamically regulated in real time. The project will be carried out within the research programme TEAM (Transdisciplinary Approaches to Learning, Acquisition, Multilingualism), coordinated by Prof. Marianne Gullberg and Prof. Jonas Granfeldt. TEAM applies a transdisciplinary approach to study the complex interaction between linguistic, cognitive, neurological, and social prerequisites that underpin language acquisition and multilingualism at the level of the individual and of social interaction. The TEAM programme offers a unique cross-faculty platform at Lund university with researchers from the Humanities, Social Sciences, Educational Science and Medicine, with the ultimate goal to propose an empirically based integrated, transdisciplinary model of variation in acquisition and multilingualism to generate new hypotheses and guide applied and translational research forward.

(11) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-doctoral fellow in microbial ecology

Fungal behavior is an emerging frontier in biology where there is still much to learn about the organization and interactions between life-forms in nature. Few experiments have studied fungal biotic interactions from the perspective of the fungi, and because of this, there are still many unresolved questions, particularly in relation to how fungal behavior is affected or governed by the interactions. While some fungal behaviors may be analogous to those of other organisms, fungi might also have unique and emergent behaviors due to their indeterminate modular body form and symbiotic interactions. In this project we intend to explore this at the microscale.

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join our vibrant and interdiciplinary research community at Lund University working with microfluidic soil chips to study interactions and behaviors of soil microbes at the micro-scale. This specific project will delve into the field of plant fungal interactions and fungal decision making at the hyphal scale. The postdoc will work with developing, setting up and running experiments in plant microcosms and microfluidic chips, monitoring hyphal growth and resource allocation – bridging the knowledge gap of how decision making at the hyphal scale is affected by external stimuli and plant interactions.

(12) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-doctoral fellow in nanochemistry and spectroscopy

Solution-processed nanomaterials, such as nanoparticles and mesocrystals, offer remarkable tunability of light-generating properties for various applications. Within this landscape, inorganic and hybrid metal halides hold a special place due to their diverse photophysics and structure-property tunability, resulting in bright photoluminescence phenomena. The next generation of optoelectronic devices requires the development of luminescence characteristics beyond simply optimized quantum yield, aiming for efficient performance in other degrees of freedom for emitted light, such as linear and circular polarizations and deterministic and pure photon statistics.

The Nanochemistry and Spectroscopy research group (Asst. Prof. Dmitry Baranov) at the Division of Chemical Physics is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to conduct research in the areas of chemistry, spectroscopy, and the collective properties of metal halide perovskite nanomaterials. This post-doctoral position will focus on developing and enhancing the polarized photoluminescence of halide perovskites to create advanced next-generation light sources, including light-emitting diodes, color converters, micro-lasers, and superfluorescent emitters. The position is supported by the European Innovation Council (EIC) and the recruited postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to develop interdisciplinary expertise in nanochemistry, spectroscopy, and nanofabrication. The Division of Chemical Physics offers an intellectually stimulating, international environment with research groups specializing in ultrafast spectroscopy, photocatalysis, inorganic chemistry, materials science, and nanotechnology.

(13) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc – In-situ analysis of metal-halide perovskite synthesis

The synthesis of highest efficiency metal-halide perovskites (MHPs) for solar cell applications is a fine tuned, sensitive and complex process with small processing windows. The complex interaction of solvents, additives, precursors, substrates with intermediates and atmosphere determine the morphology, optoelectronic quality and to some extent the stability of the produced films in an almost “black box” process. A thorough understanding of the synthesis process, its processing windows and how they can be tuned is mandatory for up-scaled production.

At the Balder beamline, we investigate processes in-situ with simultaneously combined complementary techniques using the high-brilliance X-rays of the 4th generation MAX IV synchrotron. Combining X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) / GIWAXS and X-ray excited optical luminescence (XEOL) simultaneously, with a sub-second time resolution, gives us the unique ability to follow complex processes from multiple perspectives. With just one experiment we get insight into the evolution of the chemical, structural and optoelectronic properties allowing us to identify intermediates and unravel synthesis pathways. We recently developed a robotic roll-to-roll coating and in-situ processing platform with full beamline integration. This allows us to investigate larger parameter spaces than ever before.
