Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral fellow in urban governance and sustainable transformation
Cities and urban-level action are critical to mitigating climate change. Urban areas today contribute more than 70% of the world’s total CO2 emissions. Urban municipalities, actors and residents can typically exercise significant influence on transport, heating, land use, energy supply and other sectors that combine to constitute a significant share of these emissions. In other words, the actions that cities, urban governments and inhabitants take will be critical to limiting global warming to the 1.5-degree and 2-degree targets. However, there is a need for more knowledge on what policies, strategies and actions can stimulate urban transformations, and the implications of these actions for social justice.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral research fellow position Comparative Politics
INSTAPARTY examines party instability in parliaments in European democracies. It has three objectives: to map out diverse forms of instability, to explain why instability occurs, and to understand whether and how instability affects voter support of parties. The project aims to provide detailed information about each instance of party switching in eight European countries (Estonia, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland and Romania) and will establish the Observatory of Parliamentary Party Switches (OPPS) that records ongoing instability in a wider range of countries. The postdoctoral research fellow is expected to collect qualitative data on party instability, especially in Italy, but also Poland and Romania, and potentially contribute to building the quantitative dataset on the patterns, explanations and consequences of party instability, including data collection for OPPS. He/she should also conduct the analyses using the data from the project and draft and publish research papers on the questions addressed by the project. She/he will also be involved in organizing the project events and dissemination of project findings.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow position at the Department of Comparative Politics
The successful applicant will conduct research within the research project Legitimate Crisis Management and Multilevel Governance (LEGITIMULT) which is financed by the European Commission (Horizon Europe). LEGITIMULT assesses the impact of the measures taken by various international, national and subnational governments on multilevel institutions and intergovernmental relations in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The project analyses the effect of these measures on democratic governance, highlighting to what extent multilevel governance influences their impact on democracy, favouring a model of legitimate crisis management.
We are looking for a postdoctoral research fellow who can help with the development of a coding scheme on intergovernmental relations between national and subnational governments and the collection of decisions taken by national and subnational governments in 31 European countries in relation to the Covid-19 crisis. The successful applicant will also help us to build and analyse a dataset that includes variables from existing datasets on multilevel governance institutions and democratic governance.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow position within Meteorology
The project focuses on the role of marine cold air outbreaks in the coupled Arctic atmosphere-ocean system. Focus will be on relating the variability and intensity of marine cold air outbreaks to changes in the ocean mixed layer as well as in the ocean boundary current. This will be achieved by combining regular in situ oceanographic observations with marine cold air outbreaks data from atmospheric reanalysis, forecast models, and idealised simulations. Combing the marine cold air outbreaks climatology with the pertinent large-scale atmospheric circulation, the successful candidate will also clarify the necessary environmental conditions for the most significant air-sea heat exchange. This analysis will also help to quantify feedback mechanisms between the air-sea heat exchange and the development of marine cold air outbreaks, where mesoscale weather phenomena, such as polar lows, can develop, further complicating the interpretation of the atmosphere-ocean interactions. Furthermore, the fidelity of marine cold air outbreaks representation in weather and climate models will be assessed using both the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (ECMWFIntegrated Forecasting System (IFS) and the fully coupled Norwegian Climate Prediction Model that is developed at the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research (BCCR).
