The Canadian Center for Vaccinology invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in vaccine safety research. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be supervised by Karina Top, MD, MS, lead of the Special Immunization Clinic (SIC) Network, co-lead for the International Network of Special Immunization Services (INSIS), and vaccine safety lead for the Pediatric Outcomes Improvement through Coordination of Research Networks (POPCORN). Dr. Top is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. The Fellow will take a leading role to contribute to the management, coordination, and execution of a diverse range of research activities focused on vaccine safety for COVID-19 and other vaccines. The candidate will also have the opportunity to develop new research projects of mutual interest in consultation with Dr. Top. The SIC Network is a network within the Canadian Immunization Research Network (CIRN) that aims to improve immunization practices for patients who had experienced adverse events following immunization and those who have medical conditions that may affect their response to immunizations. (06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

The Department of Computing Science, and the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii), at the University of Alberta have an immediate opening for one postdoctoral fellow to work with Amii Fellow Professor Osmar Zaiane in the area of Artificial Intelligence research. Amii is one of three centers of excellence in the Pan-Canadian AI strategy. The postdoc position is to start as soon as a candidate is identified and will last for a period of two years subject to satisfactory performance. The postdoctoral fellow will work on a research project related to Machine Malfunction Prediction and Machine Adaptation using Machine Learning. This project investigates effective means to automatically predict machine failures and strategies to adapt a malfunctioning machine to continue its mission before maintenance can be performed. The research applies Machine learning and Data Mining and focuses on Reinforcement Learning techniques to achieve these goals. A postdoc position is available immediately to study calcium and redox signaling between the Endoplasmic Reticulum and Mitochondria in the Simmen laboratory (Department of Cell Biology, University of Alberta). These proteins localize to ER-mitochondria contact sites dependent on oxidation and reduction of cysteines. The Indigenous and Global Health Research Group (IGHRG) led by Dr. Sangita Sharma, the Alberta Health Services Chair in Indigenous Health, in the Department of Medicine at the University of Alberta is currently accepting applications for a postdoctoral position. The IGHRG is a multi-disciplinary research group of 25+ staff that was established by Dr. Sharma in 2010. Dr. Sharma and the team have an extensive international background working with over 22 populations in various countries worldwide but now primarily focus on working with Indigenous and/or ethnic minority populations in Alberta, Northwest Territories (NT), and Nunavut (NU).
