A Research Associate II is available in the lab of Dr. Rupangi Vasavada.  Dr. Vasavada’s research is centered on understanding the pathophysiology of diabetes and finding ways to treat the disease. Her research focuses on biological factors that enhance the preservation and regeneration of functional beta cells for the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Recent work in her lab is directed toward understanding the role of extracellular vesicles as functional and molecular biomarkers in type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

A Postdoctoral Fellowship opportunity is immediately available for the highly motivated individual in the laboratory of Dr. Alberto Pugliese, MD in the AR-DMRI Department of Diabetes Immunology. The research is highly translational and primarily focused on human type 1 diabetes.

The major ongoing projects are investigating miRNA biomarkers, pancreas pathology, and novel therapeutics, also in the context of the analysis of live pancreas tissue from organ donors obtained from the Network for Organ Donors with Diabetes (nPOD), of which Dr. Pugliese is Executive Co-Director, and in future clinical trials. Upcoming studies are projected to include the analysis of samples from patients with type 1 diabetes participating in clinical trials, with trials expected to start in late 2023 and 2024. Additional studies involve analysis of samples from recipients of pancreas-kidney transplant in the context of recurrent type 1 diabetes.

Dr. Mingye Feng’s laboratory at the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope is looking for a talented and highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow.  Dr. Feng is an awardee of the V Scholar Award from the V Foundation for Cancer Research, the Damon Runyon – Dale F. Frey Award for Breakthrough Scientists from the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, the K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award from NIH, and NIH R01 grants. His laboratory employs cutting-edge techniques to understand mechanisms of macrophages in cancer immunosurveillance, identify immune checkpoints and ligands on various hematopoietic malignant and solider tumor cells with high-throughput screening and protein engineering approaches developed in the lab, and develop novel cancer immunotherapies targeting metastatic cancer cells. Cancer immunotherapy is one of the most important breakthroughs in the development of cancer treatment approaches. A Research Associate II (RA II) position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Yuman Fong. The Fong laboratory works with Oncolytic viruses. The RA II will directly work on oncolytic virus project, which involves construction of recombinant viruses as well as assessing safety and anti-tumor efficacy of different viral constructs in vitro and in mice. The RA II will perform a variety of research experiments under the guidance of academic supervisor, making innovative contributions pertaining to laboratory procedures. The RA II will typically consult with the academic supervisor on the scope and plan of a research project. The Department of Hematology and the City of Hope National Medical Center is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow with post-baccalaureate job experience to work in the virology and vaccine development fields. You will conduct laboratory technical procedures in support of a cancer vaccine development project. You will also perform molecular biology, virology and cell biology experiments.

In this regard, a primary goal of this research is to discover novel “signatures” of autoreactive T cells and pathways leading to autoimmunity. The lab also focuses on extracellular vesicles as a means of communication between immune cells and pancreatic islets. The insights gained are employed to enhance disease prediction and monitoring and evaluate effectiveness of therapy.

The Nath lab is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral position in computational cancer biology. Our lab aims to enhance cancer treatment outcomes through two main research areas:

• Investigating the biological mechanisms underlying tumor progression: We use single-cell and bulk multiomic techniques to profile tumor samples, focusing on resistance mechanisms in breast cancer, glioblastomas, colon cancer, and lung cancer.
