You will perform comparative meta-omic analysis of the gut microbiome, correlate microbiota dynamics with the presence of SARS-CoV-2 and its load within the gastrointestinal tract, and analyse the Ig-coated, especially IgA-coated, bacteria from patient faecal samples as a surrogate marker for the perturbation of anti-microbiome Ig responses.

You will closely interact with project partners at the Luxembourg Institute of Health and the Département Médicaments et Technologies pour la Santé to study whether and how the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in the gastrointestinal tract impacts the host-associated gut microbiota by establishing the dynamics of the gut microbiota of COVID-19 patients and controls, and comparing these to identify microbiota fingerprints as a function of the SARS-CoV-2 load and disease progression.

We are offering a 2-year postdoc position in the form of a full-time employment at the University of Luxembourg, funded by the European Comission within the HORIZON EUROPE framework (”SIMPATHIC” proposal to Prof. KRÜGER and Dr. Ibrahim Boussaad) and in close collaboration with the SIMPATHIC consortium members, for the development of a repurposing drug candidate for the treatment of spinocerebellar ataxia type 3, Leigh syndrome, congenital neurotransmitter defect, pyridoxine dependent epilepsy, Glutaric aciduria, PMM2-Congenital disorder glycosylation, Zellweger Spectrum Disorders, myotonic dystrophy type 1 and congenital myasthenic syndrome. The project aims is to accelerate drug repurposing for these rare neurological, neurometabolic and neuromuscular disorders (neuro-RD) by simultaneous drug screenings on patient- derived neuronal models. The candidate will be involved in extensive experimental work, including neuronal differentiation, drug screening assay development, high content confocal imaging and computational analyses of confocal images.

The successful candidate is expected to assume a leading role in defining, acquiring, managing, and scientifically contributing to projects in Artificial Intelligence on Space Robotics. The candidate will work closely with Prof. Olivares-Mendez and the members of the Space Robotics research group (www.spacer.lu).

The group works across the entire spectrum of space robotics research and applied research to conceive and demonstrate future paradigms on lunar exploration, anomalies/failures identification and prediction, in-space operations, assembly and manufacturing, active and passive space debris removal, XR immersive teleoperation, and multi-robot cooperation. Researchers interested in AI for space robotics will find a young and vibrant team of over 23 members (1 professor, 1 Research Scientist, 15 PhD students, 5 PostDocs, 1 Research assistant). SpaceR’s state-of-the-art facilities include two physical laboratories, the LunaLab and Zero-G Lab, dedicated environments for researchers to test their results on advanced equipment.

This position is linked to the LunarAssembly project in collaboration with Prof. Christian Ott and Prof. Dongheui Lee from TU Wien. The main goal of LunarAssembly is to achieve a high-performance teleoperation system under large time delays. LunarAssembly combines force feedback teleoperation with autonomous agents trained by human operators on the ground, enhancing operator telepresence and system through an eXtended Reality framework. This integration aids decision-making and risk avoidance, reinforced by Intelligence Augmentation capabilities. It will be achieved through rigorous testing and refinement of the integrated system. It seeks to increase operational efficiency, safety, and precision while fostering more effective human-robot collaboration and reducing mental workload, improving operator performance by at least 20% compared to traditional techniques.

The SigCom research group of SnT, headed by Prof. Symeon Chatzinotas, focuses on wireless/satellite communications and networking. The research areas focus on the formulation, modeling, design, and analysis of future 6G communication networks that are capable of supporting new services for digital ecosystems. Use cases of interest include Security and Efficient Wireless Communication Solutions, IoT verticals, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Integrated Satellite-Space-Terrestrial Networks, Quantum Communications and Key Distribution, Spectrum Management and Coexistence, Tactile Internet, Earth Observation, and Autonomous Transportation.
