PhD position summary/title: PhD on Bitumen Properties and Rejuvenation

This research aims at having a better insight into current changes and mapping the potential sources of change in the binder market in relation to binder property or quality and consistency. Another aspect is the on-going transitions in the refineries. As a result, there are inconsistencies in the crude source and physico-chemical properties of bitumen in the market. Next to variable sources of base bitumen, the use of liquid additives as bitumen modifiers has been increased in the past years. These additives can be from different chemical origins and physical properties (i.e. viscosity).

PhD position summary/title: PhD Position on Interactive Multiscale Visualization of Mobility Networks

In this PhD. research, you will be developing methodologies for a seamless yet consistent transition of data visualization between different transportation network scales with minimum loss of information. There are various open challenges within the field of visualization and transportation for building such multiscale visualization. One challenge is to formulate hypergraphs that encompass the relationship between the infrastructure of different modes and the relationship between the different transportation scales – network-level, corridor-level, and street-level. Another challenge is to create a consistent aggregation of data that corresponds to the different transport scales. This requires an intersection of network science, dimensionality reduction techniques, and interactive visualization technologies. Moreover, the project involves collecting requirements from stakeholders such as traffic operators, city planners, and citizens for developing the visualizations and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of the visualizations on the stakeholders.
