Our research project is at the forefront of understanding the complex role of the 47-residue-long N-terminus in the activation of tryptophan hydroxylase isoform 2 (TPH2). TPH2 is a brain-specific, multiple domain enzyme, acting as the catalyst for the vital and rate-limiting step in serotonin synthesis. However, the structural details of the N-terminus have remained a tantalizing enigma. The N-terminus boasts a pivotal phosphorylation site (S19) that, when phosphorylated, initiates binding of 14-3-3 proteins that enhances the activity and stability of phosphorylated TPH2. The mystery deepens, as it appears that the N-terminus might be obstructing the active site. As a postdoctoral researcher on our team, you will play a crucial part in our comprehensive and meticulous investigation. In collaboration with Copenhagen University, you will employ an interdisciplinary approach that leverages expertise in NMR, small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), and in-silico modeling. By combining these cutting-edge techniques, you will help to reveal the intricate function of the 47-residue N-terminus in the activation of TPH2.

The Division for Astrophysics and Atmospheric Physics at DTU Space is hiring a Senior Researcher in the field of high-energy astrophysics with an emphasis on operation, calibration, software development, and scientific exploitation of X-ray satellite data. You will work within our INTEGRAL/JEM-X instrument team alongside the Compact Objects and Transient Phenomena group. In Surface Physics & Catalysis section (SurfCat) at DTU Physics, we seek candidates for postdoc positions in N2 activation into NH3 and/or NOx using Photo or Electrochemical Approaches. We have a successful record of activating molecular nitrogen through the electrochemical Li mediated process. Nevertheless, the potential requirement by using Li is very high and we are therefore looking for alternative method for activating molecular Nitrogen. This can either be by using alternative metals to Li that are much less electronegative or by activating the nitrogen into NOx. Both pathways are considered equally good from a fertilizer standpoint although ammonia could also be used as an energy vector if produced with less energy consumption than now. The work will be focussed on our well-equipped laboratory where we have facilities for synthesis, test and characterization. 

In Surface Physics & Catalysis section (SurfCat) at DTU Physics, we seek candidates for postdoc positions with a Surface Science background for fundamental studies of mass-selected clusters/nanoparticles for heterogeneous catalysis.  The work will be focussed around one of our large and very complex Ultra-High-Vacuum (UHV) systems equipped with a mass-selected cluster source that can generate entities ranging from single atoms to 10 nm nanoparticles as well as a magnetron for making different substrates/support materials. The generated clusters can be tested for their reactivity using mass spectrometry in a newly installed high pressure-cell connected directly to the equipment. Some work is also envisioned for producing cluster and nanoparticles which are transferred to other parts of our laboratory where collaborators are performing electrochemical activity measurements. The apparatus is furthermore equipped with XPS, ISS, and TPD which all can be used without contact to air. Further characterization can also be done by scanning probe methods albeit through transfer in a vacuum suitcase. Visiting large scale facilities such as synchrotrons for EXAFS and High-pressure XPS measurements may be envisioned for most promising catalysts. 

DTU Food and KMC are looking for a post doc to carry out a 2-year funded project that aims to elucidate the relationship between the modifications of potato starch and microstructure, rheological properties, and physical stability of emulsions. The project will investigate the microstructure of protein, potato starch, fat, and water with a view to understanding how potato starch is included in the microstructure and how the microstructure is affected by the presence of potato starch.

The successful candidate will break new ground in developing an interoperable data infrastructure to work with curated multi-source, multi-fidelity data from computer simulations, experiments, machine learning/AI, and robotic experiments. Moreover, the successful candidate will contribute to the development of autonomous workflows integrating multi-scale simulations, experimental characterization, and autonomous synthesis robotics. These implementations will be general and will be applied to core technologies of the department, e.g., batteries and catalysts.

The Division for Climate and Energy Policy at DTU Management offers one Postdoc position for a two-year period in the Climate Economics and Risk Management section. The position is part of the MAAT project (Maximising well-being with AI under deep climate turmoil). The Lancet Commission on climate change and human health has identified the impact of climate change as the largest threat to public health in the 21st Century. The disruption to everyday practices and routine, such as commuting caused by the increasing number of climate hazards, is a key pathway in which climate change will impact human wellbeing. To ensure the health and wellbeing of the population, future adaptation measures must account for the multiple pathways in which climate change can impact human health and wellbeing. 

We are looking for a postdoc working on CFD modeling of heterogeneous systems that are relevant for energy intensive industry and coating products development and testing. While alkaline water electrolysis is becoming fully commercialized, there is still room for improvements in both the hydrogen and oxygen evolution catalysis.  Furthermore, durability is also an important issue in the highly corrosive conditions (7M KOH, 80-100 °C) typically used in water electrolysis. Finally, there has always been a question industrially as whether of whether a catalyst is effective due to intrinsic catalytic activity, high surface area, or effective electrical conduction as these three effects are often convoluted commercially. This 1-year postdoc position will look to analyze all these issues and then develop enhanced hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution catalysts. 

This position is part of a larger project looking to improve multiple aspects of water electrolysis performance, which is being led by the Danish company Green Hydrogen.  Thus while this is an academic position, there will be a close collaboration with industry to ensure commercially relevant catalysis research is being done.

The postdoc position requires experience with electromagnetic scattering models and solvers, specifically with generalized Lorenz-Mie theory (GLMT), as well as with the numerical solution of inverse scattering problems. You will contribute to the modelling and computational aspects of adaptive light sculpting using computed structured illumination of diffractive micro-elements, as well as of fast and accurate numerical solution of inverse scattering problems with sculpted light excitation and far-field measurements. You will moreover be responsible for the numerical implementation of the above methods, including interfacing with/data collection from the measurement equipment. Finally, you will be part of a small, dynamic team that includes applied math and experimental photonics staff.

The project is part of a larger project (Nation Scale Social Networks) which investigates representations of social behavior and how predictive such representations are for life outcomes (education levels, income and wealth ranks, unemployment histories) based on registry data at Statistics Denmark. We are currently working on developing dense embeddings of life-event space, based on trajectories of life-events, using ideas from text embeddings (see: Using Sequences of Life-events to Predict Human Lives. That work leverages a recent literature on predicting disease outcomes based on patient records and explainability and interpretability are important considerations in our modeling.

Optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) arises from a complex sequence of processes involving transport of electrons across defects in the crystal lattice. The detailed understanding of the mechanisms of charge transport across defects that gives rise to luminescence has been challenging, because we lack methods to probe trapped electrons; we currently only observe the very last step of the complex sequence, i.e., electron-hole recombination. Our recent breakthrough discovery of the infrared photoluminescence (IRPL) signal in a ubiquitous aluminosilicate, feldspar, allows for the first time a non-destructive probe of trapped electrons, thus raising the possibility to decode the complex charge transfer process. 

More specifically, the aim is to better understand the underlying community assembly processes determining the composition, structure and overall functioning of marine fish communities, such as its overall biomass and productivity. The successful applicant will investigate these aspects across multiple spatio-temporal scales using extensive monitoring data sets combined with advanced statistical modelling, including state-of-the-art joint species distribution modelling frameworks. Approaches should consider both taxonomic and functional changes in biodiversity and use trait-based data.

A two-year postdoc position is available within the Department of Chemistry, DTU. In this position, you will perform research related to NMR-based structural studies of RNA, fragment-based screening, hit-to-lead optimization, and synthesis of RIBOTACs. The project is a collaboration with research groups at the Universities of Copenhagen and Bergen. The position is a joint appointment within the research group in Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry headed by Prof. Mads H. Clausen and the research group in NMR Spectroscopy headed by Assoc. You will carry out research in a team focused on the design of new small molecule binders and studies of interactions with their targets (RNA or protein). A 12-month postdoctoral position is available in organic synthesis and drug development at the Department of Chemistry, Technical University of Denmark, starting from January 2024. The project will be supervised by Associate Professor Katrine Qvortrup and is funded by the LeoFoundation. The project is an interdisciplinary collaboration between DTU and the University of Copenhagen and aims to develop a novel antimicrobial drug for treatment of Atopic dermatitis.

The position is linked to the “DIAMOND: Diaphragmatic Monitoring of Diseases using a Shirt” EU project. The project is developing a novel, wearable respiratory sensor based on diaphragmatic ElectroMyoGraphy (dEMG). The sensor, implemented in either an adhesive patch or a child-friendly pajama shirt, reads muscle activity of the diaphragm and will be the first device to provide live, direct, continuous, and objective data on the extent of dyspnea (shortness of breath) in patients. Next, to develop the shirt and patch, we will collect clinical data on children with respiratory disease. We will use Machine Learning techniques to create algorithms that can objectify and quantify respiratory symptoms and predict deterioration in the hospital and the home environment. Your role in the project is mainly tied to the latter part (data analysis), but work throughout the project is expected.

The project is part of a collaboration between four private actors and DTU Compute as a public actor. The partners in the project represents the most important stakeholders in the value chain relevant for the commercialization of the solution developed. You will be employed at DTU while working closely with Optum CE, one of the four private actors. Your goal will be to explore how the mathematical structure of typical OPTUM CS problems can be exploited to allow for quicker turnarounds and the ability to deal with larger problems, both of which are important points in the propagation of the program to the engineering profession.
