The Duke Global Health Institute (DGHI) at Duke University in Durham, NC is conducting a search for a postdoctoral associate in Global Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases including but not limited to HIV. The successful candidate’s research agenda should be informed by questions connected to epidemiology, transmission, geographic distribution, social determinants and human rights aspects of infectious diseases in low- and middle-income countries and in underserved communities in the US.

The Cancer Symptom Management and Support Program is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate for a position beginning in July 2025. The Cancer Symptom Management and Support Program focuses on conducting clinical research and providing behavioral medicine services to address the psychological, social, behavioral, and symptom management needs of cancer patients and their families.  This program is a division of the Duke Pain Prevention and Treatment Research Program in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and part of the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program within the Duke Cancer Supportive Care and Survivorship Center.  Program faculty have expertise in developing and evaluating interventions focused on emotional distress, symptom management, adherence, sexual health, and comorbid chronic health conditions. Deborah Muoio and Paul Grimsrud invite applications for a postdoctoral fellowship position at the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute (DMPI) within the School of Medicine at Duke University (Durham, NC). A Postdoctoral Fellowship Position in Biopsychosocial Influences on Post-Operative Shoulder Pain is being offered through the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Duke Clinical Research Institute Musculoskeletal and Surgical Sciences (DCRI MASS) Therapeutic Area at Duke University under the direction of Dr. Steven George. 

This position is for a two-year appointment, with a third year available based on performance and funding availability. The Lee lab in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Duke University is seeking a highly motivated and independent scientist for a full-time Postdoctoral Associate position in the field of normal tissue injury from ionizing radiation exposure. This NIH-funded position will study acute epithelial damage and delayed fibrosis of the intestines induced by radiation, with a focus on mechanisms of regenerative reprogramming. Complementary approaches will be used, including genetically engineered mouse models, histopathology, mouse and human organoids, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, single-cell RNA/ATAC-seq, and spatial transcriptomics. A PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree in biomedical sciences-related fields and a track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals are required. Experience and expertise in analyzing single-cell sequencing data is preferred. The Bagnat lab in the Cell Biology department seeks to hire a postdoctoral associate to conduct experimental research in the field of morphogenesis and physiology using zebrafish as model system. Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree. The Azoitei Lab at the Duke Human Vaccine Institute (DHVI), is currently recruiting for a Postdoctoral Associate to join our team. DHVI is an interdisciplinary, interdepartmental institute dedicated to the study of basic and translational science required to understand host-pathogen interactions that can be translated into vaccines against human diseases. We are a team of highly interactive investigators that have expertise in immunology, molecular biology, virology, microbiology, structural biology, computational biology, and vaccine science.

Research in the Azoitei lab is focused on two synergistic areas that are critical for the development of vaccines against highly infectious pathogens: 1) rational immunogen design for the induction of broadly neutralizing antibodies and 2) determining the biophysical properties of antigens that lead to B cell activation and development for antibody secretion. For immunogen design, we employ a rational, structure-based approach that utilizes state-of-the-art computational protein design algorithms and high-throughput library screening on the surface of yeast and mammalian cells. We are currently developing vaccines against HIV, influenza, and emergent coronaviruses. To study B cell signaling in response to antigens, we utilize molecular tools (fluorescent biosensors and optogenetic probes) to visualize and control the activity of key signaling molecules in live cell microscopy experiments. All our work benefits from collaborations with structural biologists, immunologists and virologists.

The candidate will have opportunity to develop innovative statistical methods in clinical trial design and variable selection methods in high dimensional data that will predict clinical outcomes and meta-analyses. The successful candidate will collaborate with investigators within and outside Duke University. The objectives of the projects are: to identify and validate surrogate endpoints of overall survival using data from cancer clinical trials in patients with cancer; to identify and validate predictive biomarkers of clinical outcomes in cancer; and perform meta- analyses using the Bayesian framework. The projects will lead to both collaborative and methodological publications in high- quality, peer-reviewed journals. 

The Liu laboratory in the Department of Medicine, Divisions of Cardiology and Neurology is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to perform research in the fields of aging-related inflammatory diseases including diabetes, cardiovascular, and Alzheimer’s disease. Successful candidates will lead projects using multi-omics datasets from large sample sizes of disease relevant tissues/cells to identify novel biomarkers and gain a better understanding of mechanisms underlying these inflammatory diseases.

The Dou Lab is a newly established laboratory studying the genetic pathways and mechanisms underlying autoimmunity from a lncRNA and epigenetic gene regulation perspective. We utilize biochemical assays, tissue culture, mouse transplantation & disease modeling experiments, FACS/flow cytometry, and single cell multiomics among other assays to resolve the role of lncRNAs, such as Xist, in establishing, maintaining, and disrupting immune tolerance.

The Sarantopoulos Lab is seeking a B-cell enthusiast. We are using primary patient samples and mouse models to understand the role of B cells in anti-leukemia/tumor responses. For over a decade, the lab has studied B cell fate, function and dysfunction after allogeneic stem cell transplantation (SCT). Our studies also aim to identify potential anti-tumor B cell activity in patients who have undergone SCT. We previously identified potential pathological roles for B Cell Receptor (BCR)-activated B cells in chronic GVDH that have led to clinical trials and we now strive to understand anti-tumor B cell responses. The PhD postdoctoral candidate would be a highly motivated immunology trained individual, interested in B cell signaling, B cell activation and B-T cell interaction, and adept at flow cytometry and cell based assays.

The Kishnani Preclinical Research Team is seeking a post-doctoral fellow or associate to join their team in the Department of Pediatrics Division of Medical Genetics. The postdoc’s research projects will focus on inherited metabolic disorders, specifically glycogen storage diseases (GSDs). This position will support several of our ongoing projects related to our studies examining the role of the tumor-intrinsic NLRP3 inflammasome pathway in immunotherapy resistance.  This will require experience in tissue culture work, flow cytometry, animal handling and experimentation, qrt-PCR, Western blot, as well as the execution and analysis of RNAseq/scRNAseq.  The individual in this position will be expected to keep accurate lab notes, perform experimental troubleshooting, discuss ongoing work and research trajectory both in group lab meetings and in one-on-one meetings with the PI, while also keeping abreast of the literature in the areas related to each project.  This individual will work under a senior research scientist and will be working in collaboration with another post-doctoral associate, a post-bac research assistant, and two laboratory technicians.
