Accumulating evidence reveals that RNA plays a key role in the regulation of DNA repair and genome stability. However, the underlying mechanism(s) remains poorly understood. The postdoc will perform research focused on RNA biology and DNA repair employing human cell lines as model system, including cells from patients with dyskeratosis congenita disorder. This project is designed not only to elucidate novel mechanisms underlying the regulation of genome stability via RNA, but also to provide new insights into the pathogenesis and treatment of associated diseases. A better understanding of the function and regulation of RNA in connection with DNA repair may pave the way for novel anti-cancer therapies based on restoring or blocking specific RNAs.

The microbiota has been demonstrated to be linked to health and disease not only in the gut, but also in distant organs. However, how microbes affect intestinal function is yet to be fully understood. The goal of this project is to utilize zebrafish-based in vivo models to screen for the effect of selected microbiota-derived-molecules in intestinal homeostasis and function following challenges. Dr. Villablanca’s laboratory has generated novel models to investigate intestinal regeneration following damaged and IBD susceptible zebrafish lines that can be used in these screenings. The successful candidate will employ screening assays and identified hits in such screenings. Hits will be further studied and validated in mouse organoids or immune cell in vitro assays. The candidate will potentially generate novel zebrafish IBD reporters to visualize immunological processes associated to IBD in the context of genetic susceptibility and environmental triggers. In summary, the successful candidate will generate and characterize the effect of selected microbiota-derived lipids in intestinal health and disease. This new knowledge will provide much-needed insights into aspects of intestinal homeostasis that may lead to novel cellular therapies to treat IBD and other disorders.

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc with a strong bioinformatics background with great interest in using single cell tools to better understand the complexity of cell types in various conditions, their potential interactions, and biological impacts in a whole organ. The postdoc candidate’s main tasks will be establishing pipelines for analyzing gene expression data from single-cell RNA-sequencing (Smartseq3xpress and 10X), spatial transcriptomics, and other platforms including chromatin accessibility sequencing (ATAC-seq and multi-omics). The postdoc candidate will conduct the analysis of cell-type specific aging clock, GRNs, loss of gene-to-gene transcriptional coordination and transcriptome imbalance etc. to provide significant advances in the genetic regulation of the emergence and the senescence of complex organs in mammals. 

The available postdoctoral position concerns developing and applying novel computational approaches to study gene expression and RNA metabolism in complex bacterial samples. The candidate will focus on the computational analysis and multiomic integration of a wide variety of genomic data (metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, metadegradomics and phenotypic data). This will include the study of the crosstalk between translation regulation and mRNA decay in response to environmental and drug perturbations using novel tools that our laboratory has recently developed (Huch, Nersisyan et al. Nat microbiology 2023).

The candidate will perform original research in genomics and computational biology, and acquire the required experimental and computational skills necessary for the completion of the project. The candidate will use multiple model organism, from isolated bacteria and fungi to complex mixtures. The selected applicant will be responsible for developing and implementing analytical pipelines and integrate different kinds of data to answer biologically relevant questions. The successful candidate will take a strong lead in the experimental design and collaborate with other team members. The candidate is expected to communicate the scientific results by writing up scientific papers and attending scientific meetings. The ideal candidate is also expected to participate in the general duties of the team and to effectively communicate with scientists of very diverse backgrounds in a highly interdisciplinary and international environment. The Mjösberg group (https://ki.se/en/medh/jenny-mjosberg-group) studies the development, regulation and function of innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) in humans, and how these cells contribute to pathology in mucosal organs such as the lung and gut. The studies are translational as they involve advanced basic molecular and cellular immunological investigations of precious human tissue samples to discover novel disease mechanisms and therapy targets. The group is internationally recognized in the field through several high impact publications in recent years (Nat Immunol 2016, Cell Res 2021, Sci Imm 2022, Cell Rep Med 2023 etc). The successful candidate will be part of a team in an ongoing project that involves addressing mechanisms of tissue residency of ILCs across human tissues. The project involves handling of human tissues and isolation of innate and adaptive lymphocytes, in vitro cell-differentiation and co-culture assays, loss- and gain- of function experiments high resolution/spectral flow cytometry and transcriptional analyses. As this is a team effort, excellent communication skills are essential, as is proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams. It is expected that the postdoc also supervises students and other researchers if necessary, as well as contribute to common lab duties.

A postdoctoral position is now open in a “brain clearance” project devoted to exploring the potential of autophagy in ameliorating Alzheimer’s disease pathologies in close collaboration with Assoc Prof Iben Lundgaard’s lab at Lund University who is expert in the glymphatic clearance system. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to play a leading role in experimental design, experimentation, analysis, as well as presentation/publication of results.

The postdoctoral candidate will work with the existing data set as well as ongoing data processing, with a focus on applying AI and machine learning techniques. The position will include internal and external presentations, manuscript writing, grant applications, and close collaborative work within the international network, driving his/her own projects forward. We are inviting applications for the position of postdoctoral researcher in translational research with a strong focus on understanding the role of different pathological hallmarks (Amyloid, Tau, astrocytes, microglia, synaptic loss, and other biomarkers) in the pathogenesis of AD and other dementia disorders. The postdoctoral fellow will be working on the project targeted at understanding the role of synaptic loss in AD and other proteinopathies with novel PET-tracer UCB-J. The duties will involve day-to-day lab work, ordering of lab chemicals and helping other members in the group with lab organization, compilation of data and manuscripts writing for publication, participating, and presenting progress updates in internal group meetings, division’s PhD/Postdoc seminars and journal club and at national/international conferences when required. The position will be 90% research and 10% administration work.

This postdoctoral position is focused on the development of novel technology for studying the conformation of the p53 protein and the transcriptome at the single cell level. The candidate will study the molecular functional consequences, i.e. transcriptional impact, of misfolded p53 (PMp53) in conditions that precede AML and carry a wildtype TP53 gene. The candidate will also test the ability of the mutant p53-targeting compound APR-246 and other compounds with similar activity to modulate the conformational state of PMp53 and thereby eliminate malignant or pre-malignant cells. This research is based on our experience with p53-targeted therapy and insights from the molecular mechanisms of action of APR-246. The generated data will allow the design of biomarker-guided preclinical and clinical studies for AML screening and prevention.

The postdoctoral researcher will continue these efforts on quantitative 4D Flow MRI, targeting spatiotemporal super-resolution conversion using dedicated neural networks. This will include further enhancement of existing discriminatory networks (CNN), as well as extension into generative (GAN; Transformers; Difussion) or physics-informed (PINN) networks to improve resolution and image quality. Work may also couple into group efforts on dedicated acquisition sequences, improving scan efficiency and providing inline realization of developed networks. Making use of our translational team, work is also expected to include evaluation in existing patient-specific models, benchtop validation setups, as well as clinical patient cohorts, serving our overall goal of improving our understanding of hemodynamic risk through various cardiovascular compartments.

The work will mostly be based at the Department of Global Public Health at Karolinska Institutet in Solna. The applicant is expected to independently conduct own research but also to assist in existing research projects in global health in low- and middle-income countries. Responsibilities include writing of grant applications, project coordination, project reporting, quantitative data analysis, scientific writing and frequent communication in speech and writing with both national and international partners. Supervision of students at Master and PhD level will also be expected, as well as teaching in global health and sexual and reproductive health related topics. The postdoc will also be an important part of the research group and is expected to actively participate in the work and development of the group. Shorter or longer travel outside of Sweden will be necessary.

The Buggert group conducts innovative studies on cell-mediated immunity in health, cancer, and viral diseases. These studies are translational in nature and involve the usage of cutting-edge bulk- and single-cell technologies, including high-parameter flow cytometry, gene-editing, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, TCR-seq, and proteomics analysis to dissect the heterogeneity and function of memory T cell immunity. Through these platforms, we study various aspects of human memory T cell biology with an overall aim to i) investigate the heterogeneity of circulating and resident memory T cells in human organ donors, ii) identify alternative functions of memory T cells in human tissues, and iii) understand how we can improve current immunological therapies for diseases.

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral researcher to join our team in the field of multiplex analysis of melanoma and other solid tumors. The successful candidate will work on a cutting-edge project focused on developing new multiplex analysis techniques to study biological systems and cancer. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in a relevant field, such as biochemistry, molecular biology, or biophysics, and a strong background in multiplex analysis techniques, such as microarray, RNA-seq, or protein array. Experience in data analysis and bioinformatics is also desirable. The postdoc will work closely with a team of researchers to design and optimize multiplex analysis experiments, analyze data, and interpret results. The student will also have the opportunity to develop their own research projects and contribute to publications. Experimentally determined mutational signatures have provided important insights into the agents and processes underlying the causes of human cancer. Although humans mainly are exposed to complex mixtures of agents which might contribute to cancer development, this research has so far exclusively focused on single mutagens. The overall objective of this project is to determine and evaluate mutational signatures induced by environmental complex mixtures in human iPS cells, thereby increasing the understanding of the mechanisms and role of mixtures vs single compounds in cancer etiology. This project is conceptually novel and expected to have important consequences on our understanding of mutational signatures and cancer development.

We are seeking for someone that is highly motivated and has an interest in human immunology.  As a postdoc you will:

• be responsible for the isolation and culturing of T cells from peripheral blood, as well as performing immunological tests of these cells after co culture with genetically modified tumor cells
• investigate the expression and properties of circular RNA in these culture conditions.

Prof. Björnstedt lab at Karolinska Institute is seeking a postdoctoral research fellow for studying selenium compounds as cancer therapeutics.Our lab carries out translational and clinical studies focusing on redox-active selenium compounds as chemotherapeutic treatment for cancer. Areas of interest include a) clinical studies to study pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, safety, and efficacy of selenium compounds in the treatment of cancer. b) Mechanistic studies to study new selenium compounds and how the effect of selenium compounds can be improved through the combination of treatments. c) Mechanistic studies focused on drug action and how selenium compounds perform their cytotoxic action.

The major goal is to explore the importance and interplay of the rich variety of cell types and states in the skin. For example, how do the various skin cell types regulate epidermal turnover, hair growth and injury repair in health and disease? We seek a highly motivated postdoc in bioinformatics, interested in cancer ​omics data analysis of clinical cohorts characterized by mass spectrometry based proteomics. The position requires solid expertise in genomics, transcriptomics and/or proteomics data analysis and communication skills and willingness to work in a team environment. The current position offers great possibility for innovative research combining proteomics and genomics data, together with a dedicated group of scientists.

The postdoc will work on integrative and translational analysis of multiple levels of omics data derived from breast cancer cohorts. The focus will be on developing and applying ‘omics’ methods on biologically/clinically oriented research questions and to analyze the acquired data as well as to validate the findings using public domain data. This includes both applying established data analysis steps as well as investigating new strategies and solutions for the analysis of quantitative biological data.

The research program aims specifically to gain a comprehensive understanding of how prenatal risk factors impact the risk of neurodevelopmental disorders with focus on preterm birth and autism, the underlying determinants and related health consequences. You will participate in a study how social isolation affects the health of individuals with schizophrenia. We are using epidemiological data from the Nordic countries as well as a longitudinal cohort study of approximately 50,000 women on lifestyle factors and medical conditions, applying modern statistical methods for life-course epidemiological analyses. The position is 2 years.

The successful applicant will join the research group of Dr. Kirsty Spalding. The research lab has recently moved to a new laboratory space in quarter A7, where it joins other groups working on different aspects of biology, including genomic integrity/DNA repair, cell cycle regulation, metabolism and protein ubiquitylation. The Spalding lab uses pioneering approaches such as single cell sequencing, radiocarbon dating, confocal microscopy and flow cytometry to investigate fundamental questions in human adipose tissue biology.

As a Postdoctoral fellow in the Lanner Lab you will work in an integrated team with members from several labs at Karolinska Institutet with diverse expertise stem cell based regenerative medicine, large-scale cellular manufacturing, advanced biomaterials, organ-on-chip systems, animal models, vascular biology and pancreatic beta cell signaling.
