Seeking a Post-Doctoral Researcher to pursue specialized basic and translational science research training, education and experience in neuroscience, inflammation, and gut microbiome in the context of cancer/cancer treatment under the guidance of Dr. Leah Pyter in the Institute for Behavioral Medicine Research. The project is on the potential for fecal microbial transplantations to ameliorate the behavioral side effects of cancer chemotherapy that are associated with inflammation. We will use mouse modeling to study mechanisms and run a pilot clinical trial in women with breast cancer. We are collaborating with medical oncologists and gastroenterologists. The Pyter lab team generally studies the biological mechanisms by which tumors (outside the brain) and cancer treatments alter neurobiology and behavior. These mechanisms include immune, endocrine, and microbial. The successful candidate will receive mentorship and training in these approaches, as well as in experimental design, execution, data analyses, scientific communication, and other areas of professional development to advance their career interests and goals.

The Post Doctoral Scholar will carry out a vigorous program of research of their own design, working independently and/or in collaboration with Ohio State faculty. Researchers in all areas of theoretical and observational astronomy will be considered. Current research interests at Ohio State include active galactic nuclei, cosmology and large-scale structure, exoplanets, Galactic chemical evolution and structure, gravitational lensing (micro and macro), instrumentation, the interstellar, circumstellar, and intergalactic medium, star formation and feedback, stellar structure, supernovae and time domain astrophysics, and others. Observational facilities include a 1/6 share of the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT), ¼ share of the MDM Observatory, and membership in SDSS, ASAS-SN, DESI, and other projects. Post Doctoral Scholars may be PIs on observing proposals, and there is no limit on the number of proposals. Computational facilities include a departmental cluster and access to the Ohio Supercomputing Center. The specific work will involve high-wire tomato crop production using our modern Venlo-style greenhouse research facility (Controlled Environment Agriculture Research Complex) in OSU Columbus campus. Successful candidates must (or willing to) have good understanding of greenhouse crop requirements, while effectively communicate with engineering team with basic knowledge (e.g., sensors and controllers). The candidate must have a doctorate degree in horticulture, plant sciences, crop sciences, agronomy, horticultural engineering, or related field of study. Good understanding of whole plant physiology specifically whole plant responses to environmental factors is required. Experiences in working on hydroponic crop production, soilless substrate culture, leaf gas exchange measurements, and environmental instrumentation (sensors, dataloggers) are desirable.
