(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoc in Characterization and metabolic modeling of methane fed microbiomes for co-metabolism of trace organic chemicals in groundwater – DTU Sustain

Intense agricultural and farming activities lead to pollution of the environment via run-off of nutrients and other organic pollutants (e.g., pesticides) to different water bodies. High nutrient levels can lead to eutrophication and may reach levels that prevent water use for drinking purposes. The project will address the removal of nutrients and pesticides from groundwater taking advantage of methane already present in many groundwater streams. The project relies on the use of bioinformatics to characterize the methane fed microbiomes and provide input data for metagenome based metabolic models. These models are then used to optimize bioreactors to treat groundwater. The postdoc will work with a team of interdisciplinary researchers as part of the project Metagenome-based Metabolic Modeling for Green transition of Water Treatment – application to Methanotrophy, granted by the Danish Research Council.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Characterization, synthesis, and phase behavior of ABC-miktoarm star block copolymers – DTU Chemistry

This postdoc position will develop your expertise in the physics and chemistry of polymeric self-organization phenomena. The position at DTU Chemistry is affiliated with the project Packing Frustration in ABC Starblock Polymers and the focus of the project is to study how the detailed structure of the individual blocks A, B and C influence the self-organization behavior. An ABC star block polymer is a material where polymer A, B, and C is connected to a common point. The project involves the study of a carefully chosen selection of ABC-stars. The purity of the stars we investigate is pivotal and thus competences within polymer analysis and in particular chromatography is important. The synthesis of the materials are conducted in collaboration with a PhD-project already affiliated with the project. The properties of the ABC-stars and especially the structures formed will be studied using scattering and imaging techniques. Competences with in electron microscopy, AFM, and small angle scattering is very welcome. We are interested in establishing understanding of the relation between molecular properties – polarity and conformation – and the structures of the bulk ABC-star materials. In the beginning of the post doc the focus will be establishing chromatographic equipment for analysis of the star including option for size exclusion chromatography and chromatography under critical conditions. However, the availability of the ABC stars is also pivotal but as the project moves forward the focus will shift towards the structures formed.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in X-Ray Microscopy and Materials Physics – DTU Physics

We have developed a hard X-ray microscope at the European Synchrotron Radiation Source (ESRF) that for the first time enables to acquire 3D movies of the structural evolution of grains, domains and atomic scale defect deep within mm-sized samples. In this project we will visualize the self-organization taking place when metals deform plastically. We directly see defects (dislocations) interacting and forming boundaries and we see how the grain-assembly builds up with external load.  Our aim is to use this advantage to generate a new generation of materials models, that are based on first principles. Coupling the vast 3D experimental movies with the most advanced dislocation dynamics simulations requires novel data science approaches, e.g. based on AI. Join our center: “The physics of metal plasticity” to help fulfill this vision. Based at the Technical University in Denmark you will be working closely with the experimentalists building the instrument and at the same time be in direct contact with leading groups in simulations, e.g. Prof. El-Azab at Purdue University. You will also be part of a Danish Center-of-Excellence on hard materials in 3D, SOLID, where you will interact with 15 other PhDs and post docs, all exploiting the latest 3D methods based on large scale x-ray and neutron facilities, within a broad range of fields.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in the field of Dielectric Elastomer Actuators – DTU Chemical Engineering

We are seeking a two-year postdoc in the field of dielectric elastomer actuators with research experience in silicone fibers manufacturing and actuation performance testing. Our primary objective is to improve the properties of the in-house developed transparent PDMS thin silicone fiber actuator, which is supposed to mimic the fibular properties of human muscles and will allow for the production of soft artificial muscles in the future. Previous studies have shown that the produced PDMS hollow fibers have a stable linear strain ability of up to 9% at 50V/um and their thickness can be adjusted by changing the UV curing time, the composition stoichiometry or the flow rate of the spinneret. We aim to improve the strain response of the fiber and its stability, as well as to test different fiber bundling mechanisms for further improvements in the actuation performance. Furthermore, we have a strong desire to study multiple silicone elastomer compositions, including fillers and biologically tailored fibers, as well as different fiber thicknesses. By exploring these possibilities, we seek to obtain a soft, yet not limited by its holding forces, silicone fiber that could be a building unit of a wearable exoskeleton, developed together with EPFL in Switzerland and the Northeastern University in Boston in a joined NNF WeArAble project.

(35) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Multi-Qubit Quantum Photonic Devices – DTU Electro

Are you a talented and ambitious researcher? Are you excited about quantum science and technology? Do you enjoy finding working solutions to great challenges? You are then welcome to apply for an open Postdoc position on “Multi-Qubit Quantum Photonic Devices” in our group at DTU Electro, supported by ERC Consolidator grant (M€ 2.6) from the European Research Council (EU). Our research aims at exploring quantum information science at the nanoscale and developing novel quantum photonic devices. Such quantum devices are central for quantum information networks, quantum computation, and quantum cryptography systems, and lie at the basis of a forthcoming Quantum Internet. We focus on quantum control and manipulation of novel nanostructures at the single-photon and single-electron level, using nanowires, quantum dots, and hybrid semiconductor-atomic systems. This Postdoc project is focused on experimental investigation and realization of advanced quantum photonic devices, based on crystal-phase structures in nanowires. This is a recently developed technology uniquely allowing for the fabrication of quantum devices with an ultimate precision of a single atomic layer. We are at the very forefront of international research in this area and the topic is new, creating ample opportunities for the Postdoc to significantly push the state-of-the-art and define new standards in the field.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in solid state electrochemical TEM – DTU Energy

Do you want to contribute to the green transition by developing Power2X technology? Would you like to perform complex experiments with a transmission electron microscope (TEM). Then we have an exciting opportunity for you. Power2X is becoming a key technology in green energy infrastructures, and its core is electrolysis. The most efficient electrolysis technology is solid oxide electrolysis (SOEC), but the primary concern for implementing SOEC on a large scale is the loss of efficiency caused by cell degradation. The project is part of the ERC starting grant project HEIST. In HEIST we are developing operando TEM methods for analyzing degradation in SOECs during cell operation.
