Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in studying electrocatalysts with 3D active site structures – DTU Energy

If you are establishing your career as a scientist in the field of experimental electrocatalysis and you are looking for opportunities to fulfill your dreams and ambitions, it is right here in front of you.

Electrocatalysts are essential materials for producing fuels and chemicals through electrified chemical processes, known as Power-to-X. Conventional electrocatalysts with two-dimensional (2D) active sites have a fundamentally limited efficiency for facilitating reactions involving three or more reaction intermediates due to the so-called “scaling relationship”. In CAT3D, the five-year Villum Young Investigator project that fully covers this postdoc position, we aim to overcome this fundamental limitation by studying electrocatalysts with three-dimensional (3D) active site structures. This study could open the door for obtaining radically better electrocatalysts in terms of activity, selectivity, and stability.

(15) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in novel routes to ammonia – DTU Energy

If you are looking for a challenging task related to the green transition of the energy sector here is a great opportunity. We are seeking a Postdoc to strengthen our research on new electrochemical routes to green ammonia. You will assist in establishing advanced experimental setups and use these to explore what limits achievable synthesis rates and how to improve these.

Transforming our society to rely only on sustainable energy sources is a massive challenge. Key to success will be development of cost competitive routes to produce hydrogen via electrolysis of water/steam driven by green electricity. The hydrogen has value in itself but  may, importantly, also serve as a reactant for production of ammonia. Ammonia has great importance as a fertilizer but can also be an “energy vector” enabling emission reduction from “hard to electrify” sectors like global shipping. Hence, cost competitive routes to “green hydrogen” and “green ammonia”, not relying on use of natural gas, is in high demand.

The research is a part of the project “Progress”, where the ambition is to facilitate integration of the hydrogen production step and the ammonia synthesis step to enable an efficient route to ammonia driven only by electrical energy. If the solid oxide cell applied is a proton conducting ceramic, controlling the potential and current allows control of the hydrogen activity at the electrode surface. It is the hypothesis behind the project that careful control of this and possibly cycling it may enable an overall more efficient process.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in improved solid oxide electrolysis cells – DTU Energy

If you are looking for a challenging task related to the green transition of the energy sector, here is a great opportunity. We are seeking a Postdoc to strengthen our research and development activities on improving solid oxide electrolysis cells. In focus will be the oxygen electrode of the cell and the interconnect plates, which are used as auxiliary components when stacking individual cells. The overall aim is to improve durability of both components and in addition to develop improved methodologies to describe their performance.

Transforming our society to rely only on sustainable energy sources is a massive challenge. Key to success will be development of cost competitive routes to produce hydrogen via electrolysis of water/steam driven by green electricity. The hydrogen has value in itself, but may, importantly, also serve as a reactant for production of ammonia, methanol or other valuable chemicals, that can serve as “energy vectors” enabling emission reduction from “hard to electrify” sectors like global shipping. Hence, cost competitive routes to “green hydrogen” and “green fuels”, not relying on use of natural gas, is in high demand.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Synchrotron based X-Ray Microscopy – DTU Physics

DTU and the European Synchrotron Radiation Source (ESRF), have developed a Dark Field X-ray Microscope, DFXM, that can acquire 3D movies of the evolution of the internal structure of crystalline materials (grains, domains, defects, stress fields) during processing – deeply inside mm sized samples. A DFXM microscope has just been implemented at a new beamline ID03. In our center at DTU: “The physics of metal plasticity” we use this microscope to visualize the self-organization of dislocations and domains during deformation. We use the 3D movies to guide and optimise 3D materials simulations. In this way we reveal the physical mechanisms governing the basic mechanical properties, such as strength.

There are many possibilities to improve the spatial resolution and adding new functionality to DFXM. We aim to outstation a post doc from DTU to the beamline at ESRF to spearhead such advances by introduction of new optics and transfer of modalities from electron microscopy. Hence, we are looking for an outstanding and motivated candidate to join our interdisciplinary group, where we combine X-ray physics, simulations of experiments and scientific computing. While part of the DTU team you will be working mainly at the beamline at ESRF.  You will also be part of a Danish Center-of-Excellence on hard materials in 3D, SOLID, where you will interact with 15 other PhDs and post docs, all exploiting the latest 3D methods based on large scale x-ray and neutron facilities, within a broad range of fields.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in iPS, organoids and single-cell omics – DTU Bioengineering

Our group investigates mechanisms underlying cell-fate decisions in stem cells (ES/iPS) and during differentiation to cell types of the central nervous system (CNS). To achieve this, we develop and use experimental single-cell methods including single-cell transcriptomics, ATAC-seq, multi-omics and spatial transcriptomics, while also leveraging computational approaches for large-scale analysis of next-generation sequencing data. In this new project, we aim to develop, implement models of neuron-glial organoid cultures, perform single-cell multi-modal assays to characterize gene regulatory networks and their crosstalk during fate specification. We focus on investigating targets, mechanism and impact of CRISPR perturbed gene regulatory networks in lineage specification and commitment.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position for Sensitive Magnetotransport Measurements – DTU Energy

Do you want to contribute to a future where we can use novel magnetometers to understand diseases in the human brain by measuring the tiny magnetic fields created by neurons in the brain? In a joint project between DTU and KU we are targeting exactly this, and we are looking for a dedicated postdoc to conduct sensitive electrical measurements and develop new measurement schemes for extraordinary magnetoresistance & Hall magnetometers.

It is possible to get a deeper understanding of how the brain functions in a non-invasive way through sensing the tiny magnetic fields produced by neuronal currents. Today, this need is primarily met by quantum sensors that must be operated at cryogenic temperatures, which greatly increases the complexity and cost of making such measurements. Therefore, research on alternative methods to detect tiny magnetic fields is a top priority.

In a large Novo Nordisk Foundation-sponsored project called Biomag, we aim to use 2D materials and III/V semiconductors to create novel magnetic sensors with picotesla sensitivity and use these sensors to map neuron activity at room temperature. As part of this large project, we are looking for a postdoc to develop sensitive measurement schemes for extraordinary magnetoresistance & Hall magnetometers.

(36) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Simulation and AI in APEX project – Artificial Intelligence for Policy Excellence in the Climate Crisis – DTU Management

We offer a two-year postdoc opportunity in the Artificial Intelligence for Policy Excellence in the Climate Crisis (APEX) project at the Technical University of Denmark, focused on leveraging AI to develop a new generation of Machine Learning (ML)-based approximators to simulators. Such a technology will dramatically accelerate existing complex simulation models and significantly contribute to the advancement of science.

Your role, starting on September 1, 2024, will center on setting up, calibrating and analysing the pre-existing simulators that will form the workbench for the APEX project. The exact simulation tools to be used will be discussed upon the beginning of the project, and shall include areas such as Transport, Energy and Environment. Expertise in these particular topics is less important than understanding/having experience with complex simulation tools in general.

The goal of the APEX project is to develop ML-based automatic approximators to existing simulators, that are able to replicate out-of-distribution performance yet be orders of magnitude faster. To achieve this, several different approaches will be tested, on a collection of simulators with increasing complexity. Ultimately, such simulators can form an integrated assessment model (IAM) that can be used in a reinforcement learning framework.
