The Tulane University School of Social Work (TSSW) (http://tssw.tulane.edu ) is seeking an exceptional post-doctoral fellow in HIV, HIV-related health disparities, and/or associated HIV issues such as substance misuse and stigma to join our top-level research program. This fellowship is a 1-year appointment (may be renewable for up to five years) to support research in HIV and substance use. This is a socio-behavioral position on a community-engaged research team. The post-doctoral fellow will conduct independent and collaborative research and co-lead (along with the Site Principal Investigator) community-based participatory research activities and community organizing and mobilization with an emphasis on addiction and mental health.  Tulane University is a Carnegie designated Research I institution, located within the vibrant city of New Orleans. The School of Social Work is expanding our research capacity and research infrastructure to support projects in addiction and mental health that make significant impacts in our communities. Candidates should have a PhD, DSW or other Doctorate in their discipline or possess the rank of ABD. ABD candidates must have successfully defended by the start date of the fellowship.

A one-year postdoctoral researcher position is available in the Department of Computer Science (CS) at Tulane University based in historic Uptown New Orleans. The position is renewable upon the job performance and availability of funding. A postdoctoral research scientist is sought for projects into small molecule activation in the McSkimming lab. A successful applicant will have outstanding skills in both synthetic organic and inorganic chemistry and the associated characterization techniques. Expertise in glovebox and Schlenk techniques is required. Experience in performing and interpreting ab initio quantum mechanical calculations is desirable. Proficiency in speaking and in listening comprehension of English is essential for consideration. The position will be met with compensation that is commensurate to experience. The Forensic Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship at Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System is offered through the Forensic Neuropsychiatry division of the Tulane Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The goal of the fellowship is to enhance and broaden the fellow’s forensic assessment skills. Under supervision, fellows will conduct forensic evaluations at an inpatient forensic hospital (Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System – ELMHS) and in private cases.  Fellows will be responsible for performing a wide variety of forensic mental health assessments with forensic patients, incarcerated individuals, as well as those in the community. A wide range of evaluations are requested at the ELMHS forensic state hospital and include: competency to stand trial (CST) evaluations, evaluations for malingering, psychodiagnostic clarification, intellectual and cognitive evaluations, and violence risk evaluations. Evaluees are justice-involved individuals who have been adjudicated not guilty by reason of insanity (NGRI) or deemed incompetent to stand trial by the court. Fellows will be responsible for selecting, administering, scoring, and interpreting psychological tests with the goal of writing high-quality integrated forensic reports. Additional forensic assessment opportunities are available through conducting private evaluations. These evaluations consist of referrals from attorneys, courts, and medical-legal professionals. Private forensic cases will encompass both criminal and civil areas. Typical referrals include competency to stand trial evaluations, violence risk assessments, and trauma and PTSD evaluations with both federal and state agencies. A large portion of case referrals are for mitigation and resentencing evaluations for Federal Court.

The Postodoctoral Fellow is required to manage data projects in the Tulane Center for Clinical Neurosciences. He/she will be responsible for the creation, updating, maintenance, quality control and filtering, validation, security and analyses of research projects databases; along with multiplatform system programming and provision of computerized reports as needed.  He/she will also be responsible for developing bioinformatics and data analysis protocols and pipelines, and assisting with faculty analytic projects with a variety of other study related tasks, in compliance with standard operating procedures and regulatory agencies guidelines. The Postdoctoral Fellow is responsible for all aspects of data analysis, including cleaning, organizing, managing, and monitoring data as well as composition of tables and figures to convey results.  The He/She is responsible for writing reports, designing presentations and summarizing the findings from analysis. He/She assists with development of works for publication from study results, as well as compilation of any other research-related activities deemed necessary by the principal investigators for the success of the research projects.

The Tulane University Biodiversity Research Institute (TUBRI) is searching for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to involve in exciting new biology-guided, machine-learning research for two-years. TUBRI is a research center of Tulane’s School of Science and Engineering, located on the grounds of the F. Edward Hebert Research Center in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, a suburb of New Orleans. TUBRI houses the Royal D. Suttkus Fish Collection and specializes in biodiversity discovery (primarily involving fishes) and biodiversity informatics research. The postdoctoral research position is supported by a NSF Harnessing the Data Revolution Institute grant project entitled, Imageomics: A New Frontier of Biological Information Powered by Knowledge-Guided Machine Learning.  This collaborative, multi-investigator project involves biologists and computer scientists who are applying machine-learning methods to extract phenotypic trait data from images of a variety of types of biological specimens. The learning is aided by structured biological knowledge such as, annotated traits, an anatomy ontology and phylogenetic trees. The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to ongoing efforts to extract trait data from images of fish specimens under the mentorship of Henry L. Bart Jr., Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and TUBRI Director, and Dr. Yasin Bakış, TUBRI’s Senior Manager of Biodiversity Informatics and Data Engineering.  The TUBRI postdoc will have opportunities to interact with other biologists, computer scientists, postdocs, and students from the ten other universities and research centers involved in the Imageomics Institute.

We currently have a postdoctoral research position open for qualified candidates who have experience in organic synthesis. We are looking for an individual who can synthesize (conduct multi-step synthesis) and then effectively analyze the function of their engineered compounds with respect to solving important problems at the interface of supramolecular chemistry with polymers/materials, or biology. Previous knowledge on the synthetic preparation of oligonucleotides or macrocyclic hosts, solution and surface characterization techniques, absorption and fluorescence spectroscopies, and molecular recognition, is a plus. The Tulane Center for Biomedical Informatics and Genomics is hiring a postdoc in bioinformatics. The main duties of the postdoc are to develop new algorithms, machine learning models, and software tools for mass spectrometry-based proteomics studies, especially top-down proteomics. The postdoc will collaborate with other researchers to apply the software tools to carry out proteomics studies of biological samples. The postdoc will also be involved in the implementation of research plans, development of research methods, and analysis of mass spectrometry data.  

The neutron physics group at Tulane University invites applications for a postdoctoral research position to participate in two cold neutron beam experiments: BL3, a next generation beam neutron lifetime experiment, now under construction; and parity-violating neutron spin rotation in liquid helium. We are seeking a motivated candidate who is proficient in DNA, RNA and cell culture methods. The successful candidate will be capable of investigating the role of human papillomavirus (HPV) or Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in its associated human cancers. The work will involve methodologies including next-generation DNA/RNA-sequencing, FISH analysis, mutagenesis, cloning, RNA and DNA preparation, FACS analysis, cell-based assays including western blotting, co-IP, cell proliferation/growth, manipulation of cell culture, and immunofluorescence staining.

The Center for Translational Research in Infection and Inflammation (CTRII) located within Tulane University School of Medicine is seeking a hard-working and highly inquisitive postdoctoral researcher to join our team. The CTRII performs transformative research focusing on mucosal immunology and genomics to understand host resistance mechanisms in disease. Candidates will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing experimental protocols, data analysis and interpretation, and working with mouse models of disease. The postdoctoral fellow will conduct independent research on age-related immune response in prostate carcinogenesis. This position requires participation in projects involving analysis of immune celles and their related cytokines ex vivo and in vivo using genetically engineered animal models and human samples. An applicant is required to have expertise in broad spectrum of molecular biology techniques and bioinformatics.
