Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position in microalgae biochemistry

Over billions of years, algae have provided the oxygen we breathe and they are the basis of the fossil fuels that are being burnt creating havoc in our atmosphere. Microalgae such as Nannochloropsis oceanica are essential for the global ecosystem. Curiously these types of algae do not have “limbs” or flagella, and the research question in MOONWALK is: How do non-motile microalgae move in the water column to ensure optimal light and nutrient conditions for growth This work will include molecular biology studies on marine algae to understand how the they can change their buoyancy and thereby their placement in a water column by altering the intracellular lipid content upon different environmental stimuli. N. oceanica produce a range of high value lipids used in baby formula and nutraceuticals, thus the MOONWALK project will include topic within both basic and applied sciences. As part of the algae biosynthesis group the postdoc fellow will collaborate with Postdocs and PhDs working with algae pigment biosynthesis and the development of CO2 negative bioproduction systems based on N. oceanica. The group is working in close collaboration with the start-up company TriptoBIO (co-founded by Johan A-Ranberg), thus the candidate will be exposed to an entrepreneurial mindset and gain insights on research processes in a commercial setting.

How to increase Brain Power – Secrets of Brain Unlocked

(20) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position in electrocatalytic conversion of biomass on multimetallic nanocatalysts

Electrochemical conversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) into liquid fuels and chemicals can be a solution for a long-term storage of renewable energy. In a carbon dioxide (CO2) conversion electrolyser, the CO2 molecules are reduced at the cathode, and water is oxidized to oxygen at the anode. However, the water oxidation or oxygen evolution reaction (OER) requires high applied overpotentials, reducing the energy efficiency of the electrolyser. Alternatively, the oxidation of organic molecules derived from biomass consumes less energy than the OER and generates industrially valuable chemicals. This project aims to prepare copper-based alloys and multimetallic nanostructured catalysts for the electrochemical oxidation of biomass-derived molecules such as furfural and under conditions of CO2 electrolysis. We are part of the Nano-Science Center and the Center of High Entropy Alloy Catalysis (CHEAC) at the Chemistry Department of the University of Copenhagen (UCPH). Our research project is highly interdisciplinary, and you will collaborate with other groups within the Chemistry Department and with international collaborators.

(29) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Plant-microbiome interactions

Novel strategies for eco-friendly and sustainable food production seek to explore and exploit the potential of the plant-microbiome to promote growth, acquire nutrients and induce resistance against pests and pathogens.  Yet, we lack a fundamental understanding of the ecological factors controlling the establishment of a beneficial plant-microbiome. Hence, we seek to test the ecological and evolutionary role of microbe-microbe interaction in the assembly and maturation of complex plant root microbiomes. This project investigates the role of microbial interactions as key drivers for microbiome composition and activity, specifically focusing on interspecies cooperation/competition and the resulting priority effects. We work with the overarching hypothesis that microbial communities are composed of collaboromes, rather than independent species, that are characterized by being microscale focal points of interdependent bacteria showing essential microbe-microbe interactions. The emergent properties of these collaboromes present many beneficial consequences for plant growth and health. The experimental design of this project focusses on co-occurrence network analysis on microscale samples, which is complemented with detailed co-localization analyses to identify putative interactions, which are experimentally validated in simple microcosm experiments.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position in the ERC-funded project “Women in the Nordic Enlightenment” at the Department of Communication

The postdoc will contribute to the ERC-funded project “Women in the Nordic Enlightenment (WHENCE). Changing the narratives of early modern philosophy and uncovering women’s contribution to Scandinavian gender equality” led by PI Sabrina Ebbersmeyer. The core of this project is to bring to light and critically assess women’s intellectual contribution to the Nordic Enlightenment by examining a text corpus consisting of unpublished material and published texts written by more than a hundred women in Scandinavia. The guiding hypothesis is that the Nordic way of women’s Enlightenment significantly differs from developments prevalent in other regions of Europe, and that women played a decisive role in creating a sustainable identification of the Nordic countries with gender equality. The expert on the “religious sphere and spiritual equality” will investigate the emergence of the public female writer in the North and examine the devotional literature produced by women by assessing women’s understandings of the concepts of spiritual equality, wisdom, virtue, and various emotions.

About The University of Copenhagen, Denmark – Official Website

The University of Copenhagen is a public research university in Copenhagen, Denmark. Founded in 1479, the University of Copenhagen is the second-oldest university in Scandinavia, and ranks as one of the top universities in the Nordic countries and Europe.

Its establishment sanctioned by Pope Sixtus IV, the University of Copenhagen was founded by Christian I of Denmark as a Catholic teaching institution with a predominantly theological focus. In 1537, it was re-established by King Christian III as part of the Lutheran Reformation. Up until the 18th century, the university was primarily concerned with educating clergymen. Through various reforms in the 18th and 19th century, the University of Copenhagen was transformed into a modern, secular university, with science and the humanities replacing theology as the main subjects studied and taught.

The University of Copenhagen consists of six different faculties, with teaching taking place in its four distinct campuses, all situated in Copenhagen. The university operates 36 different departments and 122 separate research centres in Copenhagen, as well as a number of museums and botanical gardens in and outside the Danish capital. The University of Copenhagen also owns and operates multiple research stations around Denmark, with two additional ones located in Greenland. Additionally, The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and the public hospitals of the Capital and Zealand Region of Denmark constitute the conglomerate Copenhagen University Hospital.

A number of prominent scientific theories and schools of thought are namesakes of the University of Copenhagen. The famous Copenhagen Interpretation of quantum mechanics was conceived at the Niels Bohr Institute, which is part of the university. The Department of Political Science birthed the Copenhagen School of Security Studies, which is also named after the university. Others include the Copenhagen School of Theology and the Copenhagen School of Linguistics.
