Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellowships in Pharmacy Education Innovation and Research
CIPhER Postdoctoral Fellowships in Pharmacy Education Innovation and Research. This Postdoctoral Scholar role in Pharmacy Education Innovation and Research is a one-year post-doctoral fellowship that provides exposure and mentored experience across the full range of educational research activities, including study design, data collection, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing. Although the program will be tailored to each Fellow’s unique skills and experiences, they will gain broad experience in educational research and assessment supporting the core mission of CIPhER. Health professions schools are uniquely positioned to examine critical educational research questions that are not only of importance to themselves, but of increasing interest and significance to larger audiences across higher education. Postdoc summary/title: Post-Doc Research Associate
The Rich Lab at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking post-doctoral cancer biologists who will be passionate about cancer research with strong experimental skills in cell culture, molecular biology techniques, data analysis, and bioinformatics, and a good track of publication records in related areas to conduct basic and translational cancer research in the Dr. Jeremy Rich’s laboratory for brain tumor studies. The goals of the Rich Lab are to identify novel therapeutic paradigms in the treatment of advanced cancers, primarily malignant brain tumors, through the prism of stem cell biology to identify core regulatory pathways amenable to pharmacologic targeting. The aim is to better understand the clinical relevance of cancer stem cells and the interaction with the tumor microenvironment and underlying genetic driver mutations in human cancers. The laboratory has made contributions in several areas, including therapeutic resistance, circadian rhythm, cancer epigenetics, tumor microenvironment, epitranscriptomics, tumor organoids/bioprinting, cancer metabolism, and cancer metabolism. A driving force in our research efforts is leveraging patient-derived tissues and collaborations with other research groups with complementary expertise. The Postdoc will conduct research in applying novel biomarkers to clinical trials, as well as cancer biology hypothesis testing. The position is one that has potential for growth into a leadership position. There is opportunity for collaboration with oncologists at nearby hospitals and with scientists at the Laboratory for Systems Pharmacology at Harvard Medical School.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doc Research Associate
The selected candidate will work with Dr. Sarav Arunachalam in IE-CEMPD, to a) develop exposure-based categories of novel and emerging pollutants of interest such as Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) using statistical approaches based on sources and occurrence patterns in air, water, dust, and other environmental and biological media, and b) advance understanding of human exposure to PFAS by providing the data needed to: identify, characterize, and predict important human exposure sources and pathways, evaluate the contribution of these exposure sources/pathways to PFAS body burdens, and prioritize efficient and effective collection of PFAS exposure information and anticipate exposures to new PFAS.
The candidate will work on a range of tasks including: a) Perform literature review to assess current state-of-the-art in developing exposure estimates for emerging pollutants like PFAS, b) Perform data analyses and modeling to develop exposure-based PFAS categories and contribute to insights on PFAS exposure sources and pathways using novel approaches like machine learning using multiple observational datasets, c) Collaborate with other stakeholders including data scientists, and d) Develop peer reviewed publications and project reports..

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doc Research Associate – Exposure Modeler

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: UNC-ARC Postdoctoral Fellow
1. Program Administration: The postdoctoral fellow will be fully integrated into UNC–ARC programming, working closely with the OPA. Their involvement spans multiple aspects, including participation in the Summer Institute an opportunity to learn about major event planning. Beyond UNC–ARC team meetings, they will attend OPA and OGE meetings. These sessions cover a wide range of topics, from postdoctoral and graduate programs to inclusion efforts and scholar support. Discussions include strategy, data analysis, national program updates, conference reports, and journal clubs focused on recent higher education publications. The fellow will also lead meetings, receiving valuable feedback from the leadership team. Additionally, an IDP will be created to identify goals and growth areas, with annual written feedback on their professional progress. 2. Program Evaluation and Quantitative Skills Development: The postdoctoral fellow will actively engage in program evaluation, collaborating closely with the PIs and the evaluation team. At UNC and within the OGE, we offer abundant resources for enhancing quantitative skills (see Facilities and Resources; letter from Dr. R. Layton). Based on the fellow’s IDP, we will tailor instruction to ensure their professional growth in this critical area. 3. Scientific Writing, Communication, and Networking: The postdoctoral fellow will actively engage in scientific writing, contributing to manuscripts for publication and dissemination. Additionally, they will participate in major higher education administration conferences, such as the National Postdoctoral Alliance and the AAMC Group on Research, Education, and Training (GREAT) meetings. These conferences provide a platform to present study findings to the broader community. To further amplify the impact of UNC–ARC and enhance their skillset, the fellow will also have opportunities to contribute essays, blogs, and other written pieces for publication. 4. A postdoctoral research associate position is available to work with Drs. Hongtu Zhu and Tengfei Li at UNC-Chapel Hill on statistical method development for imaging genetics. This project aims to advance deep learning and statistical tools for the detection, diagnosis, and prognosis of Alzheimer’s disease and psychiatric brain disorders. The research will leverage brain structural and functional connectivity imaging and graphic data, genomics and proteomics data. The project anticipates identifying novel genetic-imaging pathways serving as potential endophenotypes for brain-related disorders such as schizophrenia, autism, and Alzheimer’s disease. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Associate
A postdoctoral researcher position is available at UNC under Prof. Mohit Bansal in the UNC-NLP Lab. The focus of this NLP+ML postdoc position will include, but is not limited to, multimodal+embodied semantics, human-like language generation and Q&A/dialogue, and interpretable and generalizable deep learning. The duties of the postdoctoral scholar will include aiding the research of graduate students on NLP+ML projects and leading research directions complementary to theirs that fall within the scope of the lab. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doc Research Associate
The lab of Jason Reed at UNC seeks a postdoctoral researcher to study stamen development during flower maturation in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. The project is to explore how hormones control rapid but transient stamen filament growth and differentiation just before flowers open, and coordinated anther dehiscence (pollen release). Time-lapse confocal microscopy, single-nucleus RNA-Seq, and fluorescent reporter genes will be used to reconstruct three-dimensional cellular anatomy, growth, and differentiation in stamens. Biophysical, hormonal, and genetic manipulations will probe mechanisms that couple filament growth with the jasmonate production needed for anther dehiscence. Collaborators on this project include the Daniel Kierzkowski lab at Université de Montréal, Canada (live imaging of anatomy and growth); and the Bastiaan Bargmann and Clay Wright labs at Virginia Tech, USA (auxin transcriptional response systems to improve plants through synthetic biology approaches).
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doc Research Associate
The Tsagaratou Lab is seeking a creative, independent, self-motivated postdoctoral scholar to lead projects focused on the epigenetic and transcriptional regulation of T cell function. We are particularly interested in elucidating the role of the Ten Eleven Translocation (TET) family of proteins that are involved in active DNA demethylation. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doc Research Associate – Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders (CEED)
UNC CEED provides outstanding evidence-based, multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient care for individuals with eating disorders. The fellowship position will be 80% clinical and 20% research. The fellow’s primary clinical responsibilities will include conducting comprehensive eating disorder evaluations and providing individual, group, and family-based psychotherapy treatments. CEED is the primary hospital-based eating disorders treatment program for the state and treats a full range of eating disorders across the age span, with a racial, ethnic, sex/gender identifying, and socioeconomically diverse patient population. Advanced training and supervision will be provided on both inpatient and outpatient levels of care. Fellows will have the opportunity to engage in research activities that reflect current projects at CEED and/or quality improvement/assurance projects based on our clinical programming. Our training philosophy is based on the scientist-practitioner model: we provide fellows with advanced skills in the practice of psychology and the integration of evidence-based practices in a specialized eating disorder treatment facility. CEED works with a number of trainees including graduate students from a variety of disciplines, psychology interns, dietitians, medical students, and residents, which offers the opportunity for the fellow to provide supervision to junior trainees and engage in collegial interaction with peers. We are seeking a candidate with doctoral training in an environmental health-related discipline such as exposure assessment, molecular or computational toxicology and biology, environmental chemistry, statistics, bioinformatics, geography, or epidemiology for an NIEHS funded T32 postdoctoral fellowship in Environmental Science and Engineering. The initial appointment period is 1 year with a maximum of 2 years of support. The Division of Cognitive Neurology within the Department of Neurology is seeking a full-time postdoctoral fellow to assist Dr. Bozoki with her NIH-funded research at UNC-Chapel Hill. The work will focus on analysis of already-collected imaging, clinical and fluid biomarker data that are part of several multi-site research consortia, one focused on Lewy Body Disease, another on Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration and a third on normal older individuals who are at risk to transition to cognitively impaired over time. Strategic use of National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center (NACC) data will also be incorporated into some projects. The lab uses high-density neurophysiology (Neuropixels), high-density spinal stimulation, brain-spine interfaces, computational modeling, computational systems neuroscience analytical methods, awake behavior, and pre-clinical animal models as typical research tools.
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will support research in sensory neuroprosthetics with a focus on rodent neurophysiology and neuromodulation applied to pre-clinical rodent models. The Institute is recruiting for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position who has a strong background in systems-based approaches to modeling risks that involve consideration of hazard (e.g., high streamflow), vulnerability (e.g., levees, dams) and exposure/value (e.g., property value). These tools will be applied toward areas related to a range of potential risks, including, but not limited to, flood, drought, extreme temperatures, extreme wind, convective storms, cyberattacks, pandemics, and liability risks (e.g., PFAS) coastal resilience with demonstrated accomplishments in the area of coastal water quality. The Post-Doctoral Researcher will work on 1) transdisciplinary and convergent research on the effect of extreme events, 2) mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers, and 3) supporting Institute activities (e.g., annual meetings, guest lectures, etc.) that revolve around interaction with IRMII’s nearly 40 industry partners.

We seek a postdoctoral researcher with experience in satellite remote sensing of water quality on a potentially NSF funded transdisciplinary project. The project aims to build decision support tools that improve planning and decision making that support cleaner rivers and more equitable river access. This position will work within a team that spans academia, government, non-profit sectors and across disciplines such as hydrology, environmental justice, and data science. This position will 1) lead operationalizing existing remote sensing of water quality workflows and integrating water quality observations into in our collaborator’s spatial knowledge network, 2) participate in interviewing stakeholders to design key data outputs and report card indicators, 3) develop ‘data vignettes’ of how remotely sense water quality data can be combined with key regulatory, river access, and socioeconomic data to improve decision making and identify opportunities for advancing equitable access to clean rivers.

The University of North Carolina Suicide Prevention Institute (SPI) is seeking an excellent post-doctoral clinical or counseling psychologist to conduct research and clinical care in efforts to counter the mental health and suicide epidemics impacting North Carolina. The SPI is a team science endeavor that is now working to implement novel preventive efforts across the lifespan, across the range of suicidal behaviors (from far upstream to downstream), and across the segments of the NC populace (with efforts focused on empirically defined risk groups). All of our work is embedded in empiricism and there are multiple data science efforts underway at UNC, in NC, and in Sweden. The position will be an approximate mix of 60% clinical work and 40% research. The precise details are negotiable provided that they advance the mission of the SPI and the applicants career goal. For instance, SPI can foster treatments in schools, primary care pediatrics, primary care internal medicine, emergency departments, inpatient settings and other clinical specialties can be arranged. We are continually looking for novel avenues in our work (e.g., in our partnership with Carolina Across 100).

This position is a NIH-funded project on multimodal machine learning for autoimmune diseases. The focus of these multimodal ML postdoc position will include but is not limited to, multimodal representation learning, dynamic information/missing data, and interpretable deep learning.
