We are seeking applications for a 1-year postdoctoral researcher. The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers and students (Wildfire Analytics) in developing new approaches for characterizing wildfire exposure and hazard to inform community protection planning. The position will be supervised by Dr. Jen Beverly (University of Alberta). Funding for this position is $50,000 per year plus benefits commencing as early as October 2022 for a one-year term, with possibility of extension.

The successful candidate will work in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering with Dr. Yuxiang Chen, in the laboratory of Intelligent Design and Operation for Built Environment (IDOBE) Research opportunities include intelligent/computational design, robotic on/off-site construction, physics-based and/or data-driven performance modeling and testing, and predictive control/operation. Research objects covers net-zero energy buildings, hybrid HVAC systems, and mass-timber and masonry buildings. The candidate will have access to state-of-art research environments (software and hardware) and gain practical knowledge by working with industrial partners.

Postdoctoral Fellow researcher with expertise in the design of synthetic strategies and their application for the chemical synthesis of novel protein targeting molecules and their derivatives. The individual will work within a team with experience in molecular modeling and design, along will members with experience in both biochemical and cell based assays. Within this team, the post doc will be involved in the chemical synthesis of novel bioconjugates, along with their full chemical characterization. Synthesized compounds will then be assayed by a variety of biochemical and cell based assays. Two specific aims of the teams research are on protein detection methods and targeted protein degradation technology.

Reporting to Dr. Andrea Haqq, Principal Investigator, the main focus of her research program broadly examines the pathophysiology of obesity and its complications (including insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular and lipid abnormalities) in both genetic syndromic forms of childhood obesity (Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS)) and non­syndromic common forms of childhood obesity. The successful candidate will work with Drs Aman Ullah and Tariq Siddique on a combination of reactor design, biopolymer synthesis and applied biopolymer research. We seek a postdoctoral fellow with expertise in adaptive immunology interested in investigating the links between T cell and myeloid polarization, viral and autoimmune inflammation using mouse models. Another PDF position is available to study the underlying mechanisms linking immune dysregulation and cardiac and skeletal muscle wasting during cancer and chemotherapy. We apply cutting-edge tools, such as multi-dimension flow cytometry, RNA-seq, and metabolic profiling to study the pathogenesis in cancer mouse models.

The Shmulevitz laboratory invites applications for postdoctoral fellows to lead collaborative projects between Dr. Shmulevitz (virology and oncolytic virus expert) and Dr. Baldwin (immunology and oncolytic virus expert). The projects aim to advance genetically-engineered reovirus and vaccinia virus variants as vaccine vectors and oncolytic therapies. The projects will expose PDFs to a wide variety of scientific questions and approaches, including exploring changes in immunological responses and understanding mechanistic relationships between virus characteristics and activity in vitro and in vivo. The Department of Oncology within the University of Alberta conducts basic and applied research into cancers and related diseases. This project will involve studying lymphatic disorders. This includes lymphedema and lymphocytic leukemias. The main goal of this research is to understand the molecular mechanisms of lymphedema and leukemia, microenvironmental factors that contribute to disease progression and treatment resistance. The successful fellow will be conduction research in cellular models of disease, animal models of disease and correlated these results with human biospecimens from patients suffering from lymphatic disorders.

The Forsythe Lab located within the Alberta Respiratory Center (ARC) at the University of Alberta is seeking a post-doctoral fellow with a strong background in immunology or neuroscience. The successful candidate will investigate how the nervous and immune systems interact to facilitate bidirectional communication between the lung and brain, how this communication is influenced by microbiota or exposure to specific microbes and the consequences for diseases of the airways. One position for a post-doctoral fellow is open at the Kane/Vliagoftis lab. The successful candidate will work on a research project funded by CIHR. The main aim of the project is to understand the mechanism of action of a new mucosal vaccination adjuvant and define its clinical utility using preclinical animal models. Funding for up to 2 years is available, but the successful candidate will also be encouraged to look for external funding for their studies.

The postdoc will contribute to research examining the neural mechanisms by which people form and remember immersive memories for realistic events. The Indigenous and Global Health Research Group (IGHRG) led by Dr. Sangita Sharma, the Alberta Health Services Chair in Indigenous Health, in the Department of Medicine at the University of Alberta is currently accepting applications for a postdoctoral position. The IGHRG is a multi-disciplinary research group of 25+ staff that was established by Dr. Sharma in 2010. We are looking for an individual with research experience broadly in the area of energy and environmental systems engineering. NanoBio-Systems group has a new post-doctoral opening in development of cross-disciplinary nanoplasmonics-enabled platform for characterization and analysis of biomolecular phase-condensates. We are looking for individuals with research experience broadly in the area of energy and environmental systems engineering with a focus on biomass.
