We look for two postdoctoral fellows interested in developing precision cell replacement strategies for Parkinson’s disease based on cell engineering. Our laboratory has previously provided proof of concept that the conversion of somatic cells into midbrain dopamine neurons in vivo can rescue motor deficits in a mouse model of PD (Rivetti di val Cervo, 2017, Nature Biotechnology). Expanding on our previous single cell RNA-seqeuncing analysis of the developing human midbrain (La Manno et al., 2016, Cell), we have recently identified a number of factors important for the development and maintenance of adult DA neuron subtype identity (bioRxiv 2022.10.24.513487 and 2022.10.12.511898). We now aim at engineering somatic cells into subtype-specific DA neurons in order to develop more precise cell replacement strategies for Parkinson’s disease.

We are looking for you who have pursued innovative research and have a deep understanding of autoimmune diseases. You should be able to understand and speak Swedish at a basic level, and you should be fluent in English, both spoken and written. Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities. Previous experience of working with the current tasks and research within genetics and precision medicine in SLE is meritorious. Previous research of translational nature within neuropsychiatric SLE and/or lupus nephritis is strongly meritorious. 

In our lab we focus on the tumor microenvironment to find targets for immunotherapy for cancer. We have found that targeting using specific antibodies for Tumor Associated Macrophages (TAM) can be used for treatment of cancer (PNAS; 2020, 15;117 and Cell Rep; 2016, 100;2000). We are now developing this treatment for human application and are also investigating other possibilities for modifying the functions of TAMs for treatment purposes.

The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. As a postdoctoral fellow in the group, you will lead new projects that aim to uncover the mechanisms underlying human social learning, and how these mechanisms contribute to collective, societal-level outcomes (e.g., spread of false news, cultural evolution). In this role, you will work at the forefront of research in this field, developing novel empirical and computational models to understand social learning. The applicant is expected to independently conduct own research but also to assist in existing research projects in global health in low- and middle-income countries. Responsibilities include writing of grant applications, project coordination, project reporting, quantitative data analysis, scientific writing and frequent communication in speech and writing with both national and international partners. Supervision of students at Master and PhD level will also be expected, as well as teaching in global health and sexual and reproductive health. The post-doc will also be an important part of the research group and is expected to actively participate in the work and development of the group. Shorter or longer travel outside of Sweden primarily to Africa will be necessary. This is a fixed-term position during two years.

The Lopez laboratory, in the Department of Neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet (Campus Solna), has an open position for a Postdoctoral Researcher to investigate the behavioral correlates associated with stress-related psychiatric disorders and their treatments. Combining advanced molecular, behavioral and computational tools, this project will address the implementation of automatic behavioral tracking systems to deconstruct the behavioral “language” associated with treatment response. In addition, this project will investigate the brain cells and molecular circuits responsible for the antidepressant effects of novel and fast-acting medications, such as ketamine and psychedelic compounds (e.g. psilocybin).

The Jakobsson lab investigates processes of blood vessel morphogenesis/patterning and function in development and disease, with the aim to develop new therapies. The lab utilizes mouse models of human disease, based on inducible genetic loss- and gain- of-function, lineage tracing, virally mediated manipulation in combination with state-of-the-art confocal live imaging (multi-photon, in vivo and ex vivo). In addition, the environment provides access to drug screening platforms, proteomics, single cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics. Our lab is interested in stimulating regeneration in the mammalian central nervous system (CNS). We aim to uncover the principles of cell fate regulation during development and repurpose them for regeneration. We use a multidisciplinary approach that involves stem cell biology, systems biology, computational biology, molecular engineering and mouse models of disease. Using single cell multiomics, we recently discovered a latent regenerative potential in adult spinal cord stem cells and designed a targeted intervention to elicit such potential. This intervention stimulated endogenous remyelination and improved axon conduction after injury (Llorens-Bobadilla et al. Science 2020). These studies suggest that activating the right endogenous genes after injury could unlock the dormant regenerative potential of resident stem cells.

We are keen to hire a graduated PhD who is highly motivated to perform research at the postdoctoral level and who has a strong interest in translational neuroscience involving  in vitro and in vivo models, initially for a 2 year employment. This research project is a collaboration between Elham Rostami and Carl Sellgren who will supervise and lead the project with the goal of generating a human-mouse chimeric brain model using organoids. You will be working on projects related to traumatic brain injury (TBI) with the goal to understand the impact of genetics on outcome following TBI. You will develop new research tools as well as using established models for experimental TBI, including working with induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and transgenic mice. Furthermore, the TBI models will be used for drug testing in order to characterize neuroprotective pathways and assess potential benefits in TBI patients with different genetic background. 

1-2 positions are now open in Professor Karin Loré’s group to study mechanisms of action of vaccines. The overall focus of the research group is to investigate immune functions by which different vaccine formulations regulate immunity. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic team at the Department of Medicine, Solna at Karolinska Institutet and study timely questions in close collaboration with the vaccine industry.

We have an opening for 1-2 postdoctoral scholarships to this translational and multidisciplinary research team with the overarching aim to understand the role of oxylipin lipid mediators in the health-to-disease transition. Focus will be placed upon oxylipins produced from polyunsaturated fatty acids, including octadecanoids, eicosanoids, and docosanoids in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The research scope will include applying existing mass spectrometry-based methods as well as developing new protocols to quantify specialized pro-resolving lipid mediators (SPMs) and related molecules. Analyses will involve applying these methods in both clinical samples and experimental models to map the biochemical role of oxylipins in health and disease. These data will be used in the overall project aim to draw a personalized blueprint of chronic inflammation in the health-to-disease transition, map the lipid immune landscape, and understand the role of lipids in maintaining an individual’s cardiovascular health.

The candidate is expected to play a major role in molecular analysis, scientific hypothesis generation, presentation of results and manuscript preparation. The candidate will work on several projects regarding coding and non-coding RNAs, including microRNAs, and their role in acquired resistance to tyrosine kinase inhibitors and immunotherapy. The duties involve working with mouse xenograft tumor models, patient-derived xenografts (PDXs), routine cell biology work and establishment of molecular methods, as well as computational and biostatistical analyses of expression array data. The candidate will be working closely together with a senior wet lab molecular biologist, to ensure high quality output from all steps.

This postdoctoral project is focused on development and validation of deep learning models and image processing methodologies for cancer histopathology image data. Machine learning and deep learning techniques are central in this computational pathology project aimed at improving cancer patient stratification. As a postdoctoral researcher you will be involved with implementation and evaluation of machine learning/deep learning models, and/or contribute to development of new methodologies and strategies in the domain. The project is based on unique and large in-house datasets. The role would suit someone with a PhD in computational pathology, alternatively someone with experience from medical image analysis and modern deep-learning methodologies. Prior understanding of cancer precision medicine and epidemiology is advantageous. The Cancer Histopathology IMage Epidemiology (CHIME) project focus on large-scale studies that include histopathology image data and clinical information.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated scientist who is interested in working in a multidisciplinary team at the forefront of translational Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Maria Eriksdotter´s research group aims to investigate how mitochondrial function is affected by intracellular cholinergic signaling in AD and age-related disorders. The study is aimed at providing new insights to combat the selective degeneration of cholinergic neurons and mitochondrial function, and thereby to a new disease-modifying/curative therapy. In relation to this, we want to investigate the crosstalk between the cellular ACh machinery, the mitochondrial bioenergetics and cellular senescence and apoptosis.

The available postdoctoral position concerns developing and applying novel genomic approaches to study RNA-protein interaction. The candidate will focus on investigation the dynamic interaction between the transcriptome and the proteome, and how the disruption of those interaction can be used to modulate gene expression and cellular phenotypes in health and disease. The candidate is expected to contribute his/her own ideas to the common goal of understanding how RNA biology and proteostasis contributes to the appearance of divergent cellular phenotypes. The candidate will perform original research in genomics, and acquire the required experimental and computational skills necessary for the completion of the project. The candidate will use varied model organism, from budding yeast to human. The candidate will be responsible for integrating different kinds of biological information to answer relevant questions (i.e. genomics, proteomics, biochemical…). The successful candidate will take a strong lead in the experimental design, and collaborate with other team members. We strive to unveil molecular mechanisms underlying neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration in MS using both large scale omics approaches in unique clinical samples in combination with functional experiments. MS is a leading cause of progressive disability in young adults and a highly heterogeneous disease with respect to its clinical presentation and treatment response. The successful candidate will implement bioinformatics pipelines to analyze data from e.g. next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, interrogating multiple omics layers using epigenetic and transcriptomic analysis from bulk tissue and single cells. The work will include design of the analysis, data processing, quality control, statistical analysis, data visualization, interpretation and presentation in the form of scientific publications, grant applications and at meetings and conferences. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated postdoctoral research fellow in the field of medical sensors and biosensors to join an international project in translational medical research. The Baranello Lab: Drawing from our expertise in the fields of topoisomerase and cancer biology, we aim to answer fundamental questions about how transcription, replication and DNA topology are functionally coordinated in human cells. We use state-of-the-art approaches to assess transcriptomic, epigenomic and replisomic profiles, as well as bioinformatics, microscopy and drug screens to understand how topoisomerase regulation affects fundamental nuclear processes (key lab references: Baranello et al. Cell 2016; Wiegard et al. Molecular Cell 2021; Das et al. Molecular Cell 2022). The overall aim is to reveal novel cancer dependencies and develop new anti-cancer strategies more specific towards tumor cells and with fewer side-effects.

We are looking for a post doctoral research fellow who is highly interested in cancer research and cancer prevention. The project will use existing materials of DNA from families with inherited cancer and to perform sequencing analysis of whole exome data as well as whole genome wide association studies and in any kind of analysis necessary to support the findings. Bioinformatic knowledge and experience and in particular experience from next generation sequencing is specially meritorious.

The position is placed in the laboratory of Marianne Farnebo, where we study the function of non-coding RNA and RNA-binding proteins in DNA repair and chromatin remodeling, and how defects in these processes contribute to cancer and developmental disorders. A number of techniques required to study RNA are already up and running in Farnebo laboratory, including single-molecule RNA FISH, RNA tethering, RNA immunoprecipitation and various biochemical approaches.
