The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disorders (CVMD) Programme houses state-of-the-art technologies for profiling mitochondrial function and metabolic adaptations in human patients and other model organisms, and undertakes translational and clinical research in cardiovascular and metabolic disorders. The program has a strong track record in publication in top tier journals, successful commercialisation efforts leading to spin-offs, as well as nurturing early career researchers on to independent academic or industry positions. Microproteins encoded by cryptic small open reading frames (smORFs) are rapidly becoming recognized as an untapped resource of new genes with regulatory functions in cardiometabolic and mitochondrial biology. The Ho lab in Duke-NUS is a leader in microprotein discovery, functional characterization and therapeutic development. We are establishing a program focusing on microproteins in heart failure, with an emphasis on those that regulate metabolism and inflammation. The goal of this program is to discover clinically relevant candidates that can be fast tracked for clinical development. The lab uses a combination of bioinformatics, biochemistry, animal modelling, Crispr screening and single-cell omics in human and mouse systems to understand how mito-SEPs regulate cellular processes related to energy production. The Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy is seeking Research Associate(s) who will assist with ongoing projects in the field of social science, including financial literacy, economics of aging, social security, and public policy.
The successful candidate should have an interest in one or more of the above-listed topics, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and a strong willingness to learn about new topics. The candidate must demonstrate good competence in quantitative research methods, and be proficient with statistical software such as STATA or R. Excellent written and spoken English is essential.
This position requires a minimum of two years of past research experience as a full-time RA (in any field). This position requires working with large datasets and caters to individuals who are looking to develop a career or pursue further studies in the fields of public policy or social science research. The Research Associate will work directly with Asst Professor Joelle Fong.
