We seek a postdoctoral researcher for an exciting project to assess geographic variation in psychological phenomena (e.g., tolerance, support for restoration) relevant to the conservation and restoration of large carnivores in the U.S.  In this position, the postdoctoral researcher will work with a variety of collaborators with expertise in ecology, the social sciences, and resource management.  The researcher will conduct analyses on two large datasets (>3500 cases spanning 30 U.S. states) that quantify a variety of factors relevant to the conservation of wolves and cougars in the U.S. at various spatial scales to help inform reintroduction and recovery efforts.  The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr. Jeremy Bruskotter and located in the School of Environment and Natural Resources at The Ohio State University.  The candidate will receive additional advising from project Co-PIs — Dr. Neil Carter (University of Michigan) and Dr. John Vucetich (Michigan Technological University).  We currently have 18 months funding for this position with the potential for an additional 6 months funding.

We are actively seeking a motivated Post Doc Scholar / Bioinformatician to join our dynamic research team at Hasanov Lab in PIIO. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of single-cell and spatial data analysis, tumor biology, and immunology.

Summary of Duties: One-year appointment begins August 2024, with the possibility of renewal for one academic year based on positive performance. An NIH-funded postdoctoral scholar position is available immediately in the Division of Epidemiology at The Ohio State University College of Public Health. The postdoctoral scholar will join a multidisciplinary research team of epidemiologists, statisticians, and clinicians focused on the intersection of epidemiology, causal inference, and racial and ethnic disparities along the gynecologic cancer control continuum. It is expected that the postdoctoral scholar will take a leadership role in an NIH-funded studied to examine multilevel determinants of disparate cancer treatment using claims data. In addition, the postdoctoral scholar will have the opportunity to contribute to additional research projects, possibly including longitudinal assessments of patient-outcomes and associations with patient characteristics and survival; prediction of survival outcomes using high dimensional DNA methylation data; and mediation analyses with survival endpoints (depending on level of interest). Current projects include in vivo and in vitro mechanistic studies on how metabolic perturbations in oligodendrocytes result in compromised axon integrity and research on metabolic adaptations in Schwann cells/oligodendrocytes that support the survival of injured axons.  

The candidate will conduct research and publish in the areas of food processing and structure formation associated with their final properties; will utilize microscopy and spectroscopy to characterize the physico-chemical properties of materials (e.g., lipids, proteins, and their interaction) involved in food formulations; will research the mechanical characterization of bio-materials using standard rheological techniques and imaging techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR and MRI), atomic force microscopy (AMF), laser light and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) testing, and data analysis. Dr. Li’s research interests over the last 20-plus years have been primarily in the fields of chaperone biology, immune tolerance, and cancer immunology. Highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to pursue specialized  training and experience in Dr. Arnab Chakravarti’s lab centered on radiation response and resistance in cancer, and radiation-induced normal tissue toxicity. Research will mainly focus on  FLASH radiotherapy, an innovative radiation modality, that has the potential to be implemented in clinical trials.   Specifically,  this will include conducting pre-clinical studies using mouse models to evaluate tumor response and acute/late normal tissue toxicity; working closely with the radiation biology and medical physics teams for experimental planning and execution; designing and implementing  methods to characterize (gross observation, histological evaluation, molecular/genomic profiling) the impact of FLASH radiotherapy in vivo.  Pre-clinical studies will provide underlying evidence for clinical implementation of FLASH radiotherapy.

Research Associate participates in planning, design, execution, and management of research projects in a foundational (basic) biological/health science research laboratory investigating molecular and integrative metabolism, and muscle biology in the Department of Biological Chemistry and Pharmacology; participates in developing and implementing goals and objectives of studies; designs and executes complex laboratory experiments; performs advanced molecular and cellular techniques; collects, analyzes and interprets research data; assists with development and implementation of new and/or revised research methodologies and techniques; tests experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods and make recommendations for utilization; assists in establishment of controls, criteria and research standards; performs critical analysis of literature relevant to research being undertaken; assists in the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at national and conferences and workshops, and in the writing of project reports, articles and other documents; assists principal investigator in the preparation of proposals to obtain new or renewal of extramural funding in support of research; coordinates laboratory activities and work assignments of postdoctoral researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, and laboratory research staff; oversees and coordinates periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment; performs additional duties as assigned.

Two postdoctoral positions are available in Dr. Jian-Qiu Wu’s laboratory at Department of Molecular Genetics, The Ohio State University (OSU). The positions are funded by National Institutes of Health. The Wu lab studies molecular mechanisms of cytokinesis and related cellular processes in the fission yeast S. pombe using complementary molecular, cellular, biochemical, genetic, microscopic (confocal, super-resolution, and electron microscopy), and computational approaches. Ideal candidates will conduct research to understand molecular mechanisms of cytokinesis in fission yeast, assist in training graduate and undergraduate researchers, and prepare manuscripts for publications.
