The successful candidate will join the young, strong and motivated SpaceR research group focused on increasing the autonomy of aerial, planetary and orbital robotics for on-earth applications, space exploration, on-orbit servicing and manufacturing, and space resource utilization. We offer two different career paths for scientific staff, depending on their focus on an academic or industry career. The LCSB is strategically extending its international collaboration network and has in this context allocated funding to further develop bridges with internationally renowned centres of excellence in neurodegeneration research. It is funding several bridging post-doc positions between a research group at the LCSB and a research group at a partner institution in Europe.

The selected post-doctoral researcher will perform research both at the LCSB and at the partner institution and will thus have regular stays at the partner laboratory. He/she will act as a bridge to foster the collaboration as well as regular exchanges between the researchers on both sites. The selected project will focus on understanding the underlying mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases and/or in developing new avenues for diagnostic or therapeutic interventions in neurodegenerative diseases.

The successful candidate will primarily contribute to the large Horizon Europe research project ETHER – sElf-evolving terrestrial/non-Terrestrial Hybrid nEtwoRks that started on 01/01/2023. ETHER is going to provide a framework for the integrated terrestrial/non-terrestrial network ecosystem that involves an efficient and zero-touch resource management, provides solution for key radio access network challenges, and identifies the business opportunities for potential stakeholders. To realize this novel system concept, ETHER relies on a multi-layered and unified space-aerial-terrestrial architecture, leveraging the benefits of Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning (AI/ML) for the optimization of the highly complex and heterogeneous “network of networks”. It will rely on the generation and processing of a massive amount of data that spans the terrestrial, aerial, and space networks. This data will be generated, e.g., by satellites, high altitude platforms (HAPS), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), airplanes, small cells, and User Equipment (UE)/Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices and can reveal hidden trends, thus, proactive network adaptation to foreseen requirements can be achieved. Due to the massive scale of these data, distributed AI/ML approaches are essential, such as multi-agent reinforcement learning and federated learning. Apart from ETHER, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of such a distributed learning framework for additional applications that are of interest to SIGCOM. Indicative areas of interest are Industry 5.0, autonomous driving, and smart healthcare.

This is a fully funded postdoc position for 2 years within an ESA project (TANNDEM-Demodulator based on Artificial Neural Network). Therefore, the objectives of the postdoc are defined in accordance with the TANNDEM directions toward reducing complexity and resources in the receiver, as well as increasing the performance for integrating satellites on 5G networks. The UNITE project (UNified framework of faulT identification) aims at integrating the prediction and localization of faults in a continuously evolving software system as pre- and post-fault identification activities. The project involves analyzing the co-evolution of code elements and tests, leveraging these co-evolutionary relationships as a bridge between past and present fault identification activities to construct a unified fault identification framework. The candidate of this project will actively contribute to engineering this integrated framework for fault identification and conduct a longitude study of its impact on software debugging and maintenance within a continuously evolving system.

The title of the project is “AI for AI” and it concerns the design of an AI ‘metamodel’ tool that will monitor and improve AI algorithms effectiveness and robustness, allowing their application to business-critical use cases at scale. The objective of this project is to develop automated means to continuously monitor the performance of AI models (including NLP models) developed by BGL BNP Paribas and to determine when and how to retrain these models in order to improve their performance. Achieving these objectives requires addressing crucial research challenges such as the definition of proper quality metrics across the bank’s use cases, the identification and explaination of the limitations and blanks spots of the models, and the design of sustainable improvement mechanisms. Overall, the project supports BGL BNP Paribas in scaling-up their AI and data science activities through ground-breaking research, thereby enabling the widespread dissemination of AI products and services throughout the bank. The project is held in close collaboration with BGL-BNP Paribas and, as the successful candidate, you will be expected to program prototype tools showcasing the practical benefits of your research outcomes.

The successful candidates will join the Computer Vision, Machine Intelligence and Imaging (CVI²) headed by Prof. Djamila Aouada. He/she will carry out research in computer vision and machine learning, with an extensive development of deep learning approaches for object pose estimation. The project “PHysics- and data-driven multiscale modeling design of layered lead halide perovskiTe mAterials for Stable phoTovoltaICs” (PHANTASTIC) joins the efforts and competence of five scientific groups from the Université de Mons (Belgium), INSA of Rennes (France), Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (Israel), Technical University of Dresden (Germany), and the University of Luxemburg (Luxemburg). The global aim is to improve the long-term stability of 3D lead halide perovskites, the main limiting factor for the broad application of the material in industry.

The role of the TCP group, led by Prof. Alexandre Tkatchenko from the University of Luxemburg, is to develop reliable, efficient, and accurate machine learning force fields (MLFF) for molecular dynamics simulation of systems sizes ranging from ~1000 to 100.000 atoms while preserving the predictive power of first-principles modeling. Moreover, such simulations should correctly reproduce the formation and propagation of defects. This is a must-have requirement for any MLFF used to improve the stability of any material in general and 3D lead halide perovskites in particular. The novel equivariant MLFFs will be used with state-of-the-art training and sampling approaches, efficient DFT calculations, and recent developments in vdW methods to achieve this goal. These push the project to the frontiers of modern MLFF capabilities, making it challenging, engaging, and impactful.

As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will develop and implement federated analytical workflows tailored for health research. You will apply AI/ML algorithms to analyse a diverse range of data types, including clinical, molecular (-omics), and (sensor/mobile and PROMs/PREMs) within a federated environment. Additionally, you will innovate state-of-the-art federated AI/ML methods, to ensure privacy and data security in clinical research. To augment federated analysis, you will be generating synthetic data using ML techniques, such as Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs). Your workflows and methods will be incorporated by a multidisciplinary team into the CLINNOVA platform for federated data management and analysis. 

The postdoctoral researcher will be working under the supervision of Professor Niovi Vavoula. In particular, the Postdoctoral Researcher will be in charge of:

• Conduct research and contributing to other activities falling into the scope of the research projects, in particular: drafting research papers, prepare the scientific materials of project meetings; contributing to project events’ organisation
• Conduct own research in the related topics and publication of articles in scientific reviews and contributions to conferences
• Assist with teaching activities, one to three hours a week and contribute to tutoring students

The Developmental and Cellular Biology Group (led by Prof. Jens Schwamborn) at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine utilizes human stem cells for modeling and experimental treatment of neurodegenerative disease. Projects in the lab are at the interface of systems biology and bio-medical research. In particular, we aim on developing novel, complex in vitro models that are specific for the human brain. Our main disease model is Parkinson’s disease.

In this particular project, we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher who is interested in using patient specific induced pluripotent stem cells for the generation of brain organoid and assembloid models for investigating Parkinson’s disease.

Inorganic thin film photovoltaics require low energy to fabricate, are stable for decades, and have achieved efficiencies comparable to silicon. In this new project we will implement novel epitaxial solar cells and study the role of their highly ordered structure. This is a fully funded position with an original duration of 2 years with a possibility to extend up to 5 years upon the performance and funding availability. The successful candidate is expected to develop safe and robust machine learning-based solutions for multilayer Ground-Air-Space 6G networks. The Digital History Advanced Research Projects Accelerator (DHARPA) at C²DH is looking to hire a postdoctoral researcher as part of an ongoing project sponsored by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR). The postdoctoral researcher will join an existing project team that includes two other postdoctoral researchers, three software developers, three PhD students, and an administrative assistant, along with principal investigator Sean Takats. By optimising PIC algorithms for modern heterogeneous architectures, including CPUs, GPUs, and other accelerators, the project seeks to achieve unprecedented efficiency and resolution in plasma simulations. This advancement will enable high-fidelity modelling of complex plasma processes, contributing significantly to fields such as fusion reactor design, material deposition technologies, and space propulsion systems. The project brings together a multidisciplinary team to push the boundaries of plasma physics and computational science.

The Postdoctoral researcher will be working in the Institute of Teaching and Learning, within the Department of Education and Social Work. He/she will be part of a dynamic organisational context of a growing, globally connected research university.
