Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post Doctoral Research Scholar
We are seeking Postdoctoral Research Scholars to join a multidisciplinary team working in bioinformatics striving to implement fundamental changes in the applied breeding of specialty crops within the Department of Crop & Soil Sciences at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina. Breeding of specialty crops has lagged behind the major crops, but these specialty species together have equal economic value to the major crops and provide much of human nutrition. Breeding Insight (BI; https://www.breedinginsight.org/) is a national-scale project striving to combine genomics, phenomics, and informatics to accelerate genetic gains in specialty crops. A partner effort called BI OnRamp led by Dr. Amanda Hulse-Kemp has been set up to streamline commodity-specific success and build new technologies; this position will be a primary leader in the BI OnRamp project and efforts. The position will work towards the development of integrated software pipelines to analyze large sets of breeding data and build technology platforms for phenotypic data collection as a part of a national initiative to extend the application of advanced breeding methods.
Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Scholar – DEPP
The Life Engineering Lab at NC State invites applications for a newly-created Postdoctoral Research Scholar position in our bacteriophage engineering program. This position will contribute to several ongoing projects in the areas of microbial engineering and phage ecology. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Scholar – Kannapolis
A postdoctoral position in Nutritional Biochemistry is available to join the laboratory of Dr. Eroglu, at the Plants for Human Health Institute at North Carolina State University.
The successful candidate in this position will focus on the effects of the dietary bioactive compounds on metagenomics, spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics. Initially, studies will utilize cell-based assays on the ability of phytochemicals to modulate transcription factors. The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to perform a primary role in microbial genome assemblies and comparative genomic studies from bacterial samples isolated in North Carolina field trials. Biological samples will require to organized and DNA will need to be extracted. The Peng Lab uses data-driven strategies to study the immune system and infection. The Lab is housed in the College of Veterinary Medicine and is part of NC State Bioinformatics Research Center.

The Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center (SE CASC) in partnership with Consortium host NC State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to further climate adaptation research and synthesis on invertebrates, focusing on bees. The mission of the SE CASC is to help fish, wildlife, ecosystems, and people adapt to a changing climate. The SE CASC focuses on the co-production of actionable science for natural and cultural resource management. The number of invertebrate species far outpaces the number of vertebrates, with almost 1.3 million invertebrates described. Many perform activities critical to ecosystem functions and services, but invertebrates are often missing in climate adaptation plans for species or habitats.
We seek a Postdoctoral Research Scholar with expertise in the analysis of large monitoring datasets to understand climate impacts on invertebrates, in particular bees. We are particularly interested in applicants with a diversity of quantitative skills to analyze and visualize data but will also consider applicants who have strong taxonomic and natural history expertise in bees and regional threats to specific bee groups to develop management briefs for climate adaptation.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Scholar
The Sunny Day Flooding Project is seeking a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in satellite remote sensing to join a highly interdisciplinary and community-engaged research project. The researcher will use different satellite platforms – including Sentinel-1 (SAR), Sentinel-2 (optical), Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT), and small-satellite imagery (SAR and optical) – to analyze and monitor floods in coastal regions that occur outside of extreme storms like hurricanes.
The primary goal of this research is to evaluate and enhance the accuracy and reliability of satellite observations for detecting shallow, hyperlocal flooding and to validate these observations with in-situ data and models. The researcher will work closely with Dr. Katherine Anarde (Coastal Engineering, NCSU) to analyze flood sensor data and with Dr. Chao Wang and Dr. Tamlin Pavelsky (Hydrology Remote Sensing, UNC-Chapel Hill) to perform comprehensive analyses of satellite data.

We are seeking a postdoctoral scholar to work on chemical ecology of invasive piercing-sucking insects and pathogens of Christmas trees.
Primary duties of the Postdoctoral Scholar include but are not limited to the following: Design and conduct experiments to understand plant responses to invasive piercing-sucking insects and/or pathogens of Christmas trees to determine the molecular mechanisms underlying plant-insect/pathogen interactions. The Postdoctoral Scholar will be expected to conduct experiments, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, conduct molecular analyses, and carry out biochemical analyses of terpenes/phenolic metabolites.
The Postdoctoral Scholar will be specifically involved with: (1) Incorporation of quantitative genetic information into experimental designs using information derived from Fraser fir progeny test datasets. (2) Extraction of metabolites and RNA for downstream biochemical and molecular analyses (3) Evaluation of molecular signatures and specialized metabolites at the site of insect feeding/pathogen infection (4) Analysis of phenolic metabolites with UPLC equipped with a PDA detector and mass spectrometer (5) Generation of genomic resources and analysis of downstream bioinformatic data. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Scholar
The Geohazards and Earthquake Engineering (GeoQuake) Research Lab invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Scholar position. The GeoQuake Lab takes an interdisciplinary approach to the assessment of seismic hazards (including earthquake ground shaking and ground failure), and their impact on civil infrastructure systems as well as the communities they serve. Our research team examines, processes, and compiles large, global, and regional earthquake ground motion databases, and develops analytical and numerical models of seismic wave propagation through complex media. In doing so, we use geospatial analytics to interrogate different types of data and advance modeling frameworks of geohazards at multiple scales. We also conduct dynamic laboratory testing of soils, incorporate geology, geomorphology and probabilistic frameworks into assessments of the variability and uncertainty associated with geohazards.
The work conducted at the GeoQuake Lab spans the physics underlying the seismic wave propagation phenomenon and the practical implications on infrastructure performance to inform decision making, based on fundamental understanding of natural hazards and their complex interactions with the built environment. The successful applicant will support GeoQuake’s new projects and grant application writing in the area of physics-based ground motion simulations.
Research activities [80%]: Developing pathways to improve physics-based ground motion simulations in highly uncertain environments with a focus on developing improved characterizations of the effects of shallow and deep geologic structures. This work will be highly collaborative, interdisciplinary and will likely involve GeoQuake graduate students working on related topics.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Scholar
The primary purpose of this Postdoctoral Research Scholar position will be to plan and execute landscape evolution and thermo-kinematic modeling that is coupled with the new thermochronology data.

The purpose of the position is to determine (1) per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) concentrations in air, groundwater and deposition samples collected near the Chemours Fayetteville Works facility and (2) improve the understanding of the atmospheric fate and transformations of select PFAS emitted there. The candidate will help advance sampling and analytical methods for the determination of gas- and condensed-phase PFAS concentrations in air by selecting and evaluating passive sampling approaches and by using and modifying targeted and non-targeted liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) methods. Furthermore, the candidate will conduct laboratory experiments to assess PFAS partitioning between air/water/organic media and explore the kinetics and products of oxidation of select compounds.

We are interested in learning the influential factors in such human-AV interactions, the decision-making process from the cognitive and/or behavioral economics perspective, and how to develop strategies to promote human-AV cooperation (e.g., via improved communication design, or nudging).

The Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences trains Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and graduate students interested in research-based careers focused on the discovery of new knowledge about animals and human health and disease, and using those findings to enhance animal and human health and well-being. Students get in-depth knowledge of the molecular mechanisms of disease, and experience in the development of new procedures which enable its prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Our faculty are recognized experts in the fields of cell biology and physiology, cancer biology, developmental biology, environmental science and toxicology, genomics, infectious diseases, neuroscience, pharmacology, radiology, and reproductive biology. Our goals are to advance veterinary medical science through innovative basic and applied research, and by mentoring and inspiring students, providing world-class clinical and diagnostic services, and offering the public the latest knowledge through innovative extension and engagement activities. Our research faculty works in state-of-the-art research facilities, including a transgenic mouse facility where graduate students can participate in research projects related to mouse and animal genomics.
A number of graduate programs are available to students interested in working with faculty in the Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences. In addition, faculty oversee the following clinical sections: anesthesia, clinical nutrition, pharmacology, and the radiology residency.

The Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center (SE CASC) in partnership with Consortium host NC State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar in Population and Community Ecology to conduct research and synthesis at the intersection of climate change and invasive species. The mission of the SE CASC is to help fish, wildlife, ecosystems, and people adapt to a changing climate. The SE CASC focuses on the co-production of actionable science for natural and cultural resource management.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Scholar
The selected candidate is expected to perform independent research and develop molecular dynamics (MD) and ab initio (e.g., DFT based) atomistic simulation techniques in support of investigation in the area of advanced nuclear reactor development. The candidates will join an internationally recognized group that is active in the development and utilization of such methods in the quantification of the dynamic structure factor (the scattering law) for key materials used in nuclear technology. Understanding the effect of radiation on the properties of these materials may also be a part of this study. The opportunity also exists for performing experimental studies at the NCSUPULSTAR reactor and at national facilities (e.g., Spallation Neutron Source, High Flux Isotope Reactor, National Institute of Standards and Technology reactor, etc.) in conjunction with the modeling and simulations.

The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will conduct research in a sparse tensor network project with Faculty co-mentors Dr. Li and Dr. Mueller. A successful candidate will have a proven track record of research excellence in the area of high performance computing for Sparse Tensor networks; exhibit leadership, communication, and organization skills.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Scholar- Nascone Yoder Lab
A postdoctoral researcher is needed to conduct independent research on the development of anatomical left-right asymmetry. Specifically, the postdoc will use advanced gene misexpression strategies (CRISPR/morpholino oligonucleotides), transcriptomics (bulk and/or spatial), 3D imaging modalities (nano-CT), and/or computational modeling (CompuCell3D) to address the cellular and molecular mechanisms of left-right asymmetric organ morphogenesis in the developing digestive tract.
The successful applicant will have a demonstrated ability to lead and manage research projects independently as well as the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team. Excellent written and oral communication and collaboration skills are essential. The applicant should also have demonstrated expertise in microscopy, image processing/analysis, gene editing, immunostaining, and/or molecular biology, as indicated by a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.

The mission of the SE CASC is to help fish, wildlife, ecosystems, and people adapt to a changing climate. The SE CASC focuses on the co-production of actionable science for natural and cultural resource management. A wealth of climate information exists for the Southeast and US Caribbean, but managers struggle to acquire, interpret, and use that information effectively, especially under rapid decision-making timelines. The Postdoctoral Scholar is expected to use a co-production process to design the synthesis methods, including focal areas, data sources, and diverse epistemological approaches to consider, conducting the synthesis, and developing products. Focus groups representing the management community will inform final products, visualizations, and tools to ensure efficacy. Anticipated synthesis products may include review papers, fact sheets, the database of existing resources, annotated bibliographies, creative visualizations, web tools, etc.
We seek a scholar with skills in the synthesis of existing data and research, organizing and running convenings with partners from various perspectives, facilitation, qualitative and quantitative approaches to synthesizing different types of data sources, and improving accessibility of existing science and data (e.g., visualization, science communication, etc.). We are particularly interested in candidates with evidence of experience in developing databases of existing resources, authorship on synthesis/review papers, building web tools to visualize existing data, and leading groups of diverse researchers. The Postdoctoral Scholar will be co-mentored by Rebecca Irwin (SE CASC Consortium Director), Nils Peterson (SE CASC Research Affiliate), Jen Cartwright (SE CASC Science Coordinator) and Cari Furiness (SE CASC Assistant Consortium Director).
