ETHER is going to provide a framework for the integrated terrestrial/non-terrestrial network ecosystem that involves an efficient and zero-touch resource management, provides solution for key radio access network challenges, and identifies the business opportunities for potential stakeholders. To realize this novel system concept, ETHER relies on a multi-layered and unified space-aerial-terrestrial architecture, leveraging the benefits of Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning (AI/ML) for the optimization of the highly complex and heterogeneous “network of networks”. It will rely on the generation and processing of a massive amount of data that spans the terrestrial, aerial, and space networks. This data will be generated, e.g., by satellites, high altitude platforms (HAPS), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), airplanes, small cells, and User Equipment (UE)/Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices and can reveal hidden trends, thus, proactive network adaptation to foreseen requirements can be achieved. Due to the massive scale of these data, distributed AI/ML approaches are essential, such as multi-agent reinforcement learning and federated learning. Apart from ETHER, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of such a distributed learning framework for additional applications that are of interest to SIGCOM. Indicative areas of interest are Industry 5.0, autonomous driving, and smart healthcare.

This is a fully funded postdoc position for 2 years within an ESA project (TANNDEM-Demodulator based on Artificial Neural Network). Therefore, the objectives of the postdoc are defined in accordance with the TANNDEM directions toward reducing complexity and resources in the receiver, as well as increasing the performance for integrating satellites on 5G networks. More precisely, the work aims at designing artificial neural networks for different functionalities in the physical layer.

The successful candidate will work under the academic supervision of Dr. Jorge Querol (University of Luxembourg) and join a strong and motivated research team led by Prof. Symeon Chatzinotas.

The successful candidates are expected to perform the following tasks:

• Optimize 5G New Radio (NR) with waveform based on orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) and its evolution for satellite communication (Satcom) applications

This is a fully funded position for 23 months within a large, national research project (INSTRUCT – INtegrated Satellite-TeRrestrial Systems for Ubiquitous Beyond 5G CommunicaTions). The project is run in close cooperation with SES (https://www.ses.com/). Therefore, the objectives of the project are aligned with the research interest of SES towards their next-generation of satellite systems.

The candidate will develop novel methods and techniques for data format inference, transformation, and verification in the context of high-speed satellite command data streams.

The successful candidate will work with an academic supervisor from the University of Luxembourg and with an industrial supervisor from SES, and join a strong and motivated research team led by Prof. Domenico Bianculli. The candidate is also expected to spend at least 25% of his/her time at the SES headquarters in Betzdorf, Luxembourg.

As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will develop and implement federated analytical workflows tailored for health research. You will apply AI/ML algorithms to analyse a diverse range of data types, including clinical, molecular (-omics), and (sensor/mobile and PROMs/PREMs) within a federated environment. Additionally, you will innovate state-of-the-art federated AI/ML methods, to ensure privacy and data security in clinical research. To augment federated analysis, you will be generating synthetic data using ML techniques, such as Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs). Your workflows and methods will be incorporated by a multidisciplinary team into the CLINNOVA platform for federated data management and analysis. As the successful candidate, you will primarily contribute to a partnership project with BGL – BNP Paribas, one of the major banks in Luxembourg. The title of the project is “AI for AI” and it concerns the design of an AI ‘metamodel’ tool that will monitor and improve AI algorithms effectiveness and robustness, allowing their application to business-critical use cases at scale. The objective of this project is to develop automated means to continuously monitor the performance of AI models (including NLP models) developed by BGL BNP Paribas and to determine when and how to retrain these models in order to improve their performance. Achieving these objectives requires addressing crucial research challenges such as the definition of proper quality metrics across the bank’s use cases, the identification and explaination of the limitations and blanks spots of the models, and the design of sustainable improvement mechanisms. The SnT is seeking a Postdoc (Research Associate) to support the research and development work within the SEDAN group. We seek a candidate with expertise and/or interest in the following relevant fields: machine learning, statistics, cybersecurity, networking, systems and micro-service architectures. While covering all these expertise fields is not mandatory, we expect the candidate to have strong interest in investigating all of them during the postdoc.

The candidate will the opportunity to work on a CORE project funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) to explore and validate theoretical research. The main objective of the project is to build a cybersecurity-oriented telemetry framework capturing and modeling causal dependencies in a microservice-based infrastructure to identify the complex inter-dependencies among events generated by applications, services, system and network communications.

Going beyond time-series model, the aim of the project is to progress on causal inference [1] modeling by combining probabilistic reasoning [2] and deep learning models [3]. The objective is thus to have a model capable to reason under uncertainty. Therefore, the postdoc will need to define a language for modeling purposes and with a first set of necessary algorithms for learning and inference from events. In a second stage, incremental learning will be considered to update model when drift is detected and merge multiple models. The main application is to discover dependencies in various logs in a micro-service environment (kubernetes) which will be used to track anomalies forward and backward in time. It is thus expected that the successful candidate will also deploy a small environment with existing tools (Prometheus, Loki, cAdvisor, Falco for example) and possibly develop new tools if needed.

In addition, the candidate will be also involved in project management, reporting and dissemination. The project is an academic project oriented but applied research. It is a unique opportunity to develop new concepts with a close collaboration. The project team is composed of the proncipal investigator (Dr. Jérôme FRANCOIS) and two research associates.

Our research areas focus on the formulation, modeling, design, and analysis of future 5G and beyond communication networks that can support new services in a cost-efficient manner. Use cases of interest include IoT verticals, unmanned aerial vehicles, integrated satellite-space-terrestrial networks, quantum communications and key distribution, spectrum management and coexistence, tactile Internet, and autonomous transportation. This is a fully funded position for 12 months in the HEXAPIC project, which is conducted in collaboration with Prof. Leon Kos’s team at the University of Ljubljana.

The HEXAPIC project aims to develop a novel high-performance Particle-In-Cell (PIC) code for plasma physics simulations, leveraging the capabilities of exascale computing systems. By optimising PIC algorithms for modern heterogeneous architectures, including CPUs, GPUs, and other accelerators, the project seeks to achieve unprecedented efficiency and resolution in plasma simulations. This advancement will enable high-fidelity modelling of complex plasma processes, contributing significantly to fields such as fusion reactor design, material deposition technologies, and space propulsion systems. The project brings together a multidisciplinary team to push the boundaries of plasma physics and computational science.

The Postdoctoral researcher will be working in the Institute of Teaching and Learning, within the Department of Education and Social Work. The Developmental and Cellular Biology Group (led by Prof. Jens Schwamborn) at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine utilizes human stem cells for modeling and experimental treatment of neurodegenerative disease. Projects in the lab are at the interface of systems biology and bio-medical research. In particular, we aim on developing novel, complex in vitro models that are specific for the human brain. Our main disease model is Parkinson’s disease.

In this particular project, we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher who is interested in using patient specific induced pluripotent stem cells for the generation of brain organoid and assembloid models for investigating Parkinson’s disease.

This is a fully funded position for 24 months in the HEXAPIC project conducted in collaboration with the team of Prof. Leon Kos at University of Ljubljana.

The HEXAPIC project aims to develop a novel high-performance Particle-In-Cell (PIC) code for plasma physics simulations, leveraging the capabilities of exascale computing systems. By optimizing PIC algorithms for modern heterogeneous architectures, including CPUs, GPUs, and other accelerators, the project seeks to achieve unprecedented efficiency and resolution in plasma simulations. This advancement will enable high-fidelity modeling of complex plasma processes, contributing significantly to fields such as fusion reactor design, material deposition technologies, and space propulsion systems. The project brings together a multidisciplinary team to push the boundaries of plasma physics and computational science.

The postdoctoral researcher will be to create a database of candidates for the past four national elections in Luxembourg and their key characteristics and to collect information on candidate selection within the political parties. (S)he will cooperate closely with Prof. Högenauer on the analysis of the electoral dynamics and on the relevant publications.

The primary tasks of the postdoctoral researcher will include:

• The development of a database on candidates in national elections in Luxembourg
• The collection of party statutes and other rules on the selection of candidates within parties
• Potentially interviews with party leaders on selection processes within parties
• The analysis and publication of findings
• Collaboration on the application for additional funding

We are looking for a candidate with a PhD in Finance/Economics/Business/Statistics/Computer Science, preferably with a specialization in Sustainability but not limited to that, as Asset Pricing, Financial Institutions, Risk Management are areas of research focus in our department.
